Worship Service 10:00 AM October 23, 2016 October 23, 2016 Welcome to Covenant! Good morning and welcome to Covenant! This morning we will receive some new members to our church. These individuals are gi6s from God! Speaking of gi6s, my message today will focus on spiritual gi6s – their distribu0on and purpose. The context of Paul's discussion in 1 Corinthians 12 is a conflict in Corinth. He draws the Corinthian's and our a;en0on to the church. You can't understand spiritual gi6s biblically apart from a proper understanding of the visible church. We will see how spiritual gi6s are given for the work of the local church. I am glad you are here today. If this is your first 0me at Covenant, welcome. Please stay a6er the service, enjoy some refreshments, and take the opportunity to introduce yourself to me. Please join us for Sunday School a6er a 0me of fellowship. If you have ques0ons about Covenant, please don’t hesitate to contact me. If you did not already receive a visitor’s informa0on brochure about the ministries of our church, please pick one up in the lobby. Today Pre-worship Prayer Time: Please join us in Room 2 at 9:40 AM each Sunday to pray for the upcoming worship service. Romans 12:4-6a ESV Welcome and announcements Call to Worship Please Stand “I will bless the LORD at all times; his praise shall continually be in my mouth. Not what I feel or do can give me peace with God; not all my prayers and sighs and tears can bear my awful load. 2 Thy work alone, O Christ, can ease this weight of sin; thy blood alone, O Lamb of God, can give me peace within. Thy love to me, O God, not mine, O Lord, to thee, can rid me of this dark unrest, and set my spirit free. 3 Thy grace alone, O God, to me can pardon speak; thy pow’r alone, O Son of God, can this sore bondage break. No other work, save thine, no other blood will do; no strength, save that which is divine, can bear me safely through. 5 I praise the God of grace; I trust his truth and might; he calls me his, I call him mine, my God, my joy, my light. ‘Tis he who saveth me, and freely pardon gives; I love because he loveth me, I live because he lives. 6 October 23, 2016 presentation of tithes and offerings Congregational prayer 7 October 23, 2016 Song of Preparation Please Stand THE CHURCH'S ONE FOUNDATION SFW 52 Verses 1-4 1 The church's one founda0on is Jesus Christ her Lord; she is His new crea0on by water and the Word: from heav'n He came and sought her to be His holy bride; with His own blood He bought her, and for her life He died. 2 Elect from every na0on, yet one o'er all the earth her charter of salva0on, one Lord, one faith, one birth; one holy name she blesses, partakes one holy food, and to one hope she presses, with every grace endued. 3 Though with a scornful wonder men see her sore oppressed, by schisms rent asunder, by heresies distressed, yet saints their watch are keeping, their cry goes up, “How long?” And soon the night of weeping, shall be the morn of song. 4 The church shall never perish! Her dear Lord to defend, to guide, sustain and cherish, is with her to the end; though there be those that hate her, and false sons in her pale, against a foe or traitor, she ever shall prevail.
