The municipality of Skurup
If you have just arrived from another country and need help and support
to settle here, please contact us so that we can help you. Sweden’s
municipalities have an obligation to offer refugees and their dependants
help (civic orientation) with settling in Sweden. You can get this help for
three years after receiving a residence permit. The municipality of
Skurup works closely with Arbetsförmedlingen’s “introduction unit” to
support you as a newcomer to our municipality.

activities for those people who are at least 20 years old and who have

Preschools
Children between 1 and 5 years old can attend preschool.
You can choose the preschool you would like your children to attend. We
do everything we can for your children to go to the preschool of your
choice. Provided you have the necessary residence permits, your
children aged between 1 and 5 are offered, in accordance with Sweden’s
Education Act, the preschooling that is required in respect of the parents’
work/studies or each child’s needs.
For asylum-seeking children, preschooling is offered from age 3 to age 5.
For children of parents on parental leave, preschooling is offered for 15
hours per week during term time.
For all 3 to 5 year olds, there is universal preschool. This offers the
children 525 free preschool hours from the autumn term in which they
turn three years old. Attendance at universal preschool is voluntary.

After-school recreation centres
All children from preschool class age up to and including the 6th year of
compulsory schooling can, if necessary, have a place at an after-school
recreation centre. This includes morning and afternoon care. School-age child
care is led by teachers and is an important and influential element in each
child’s development. To a great extent, it is at these centres that children
acquire role models, learn to play together and form basic values.
All after-school recreation centres are located in school premises. The
centres and the schools collaborate so that children have the sense that
their days are cohesive.

always welcome here. On Tuesdays and Thursdays between 15.00 and
18.00, you are welcome from the year in which you turn 11.
Here, you can get involved with music, dance, photography, film, theatre
and strength training. We have excellent training and rehearsal facilities
as well as a recording studio and a film workshop.

always welcome here. On Tuesdays and Thursdays between 17.30 and
19.00, you are welcome from the year in which you turn 11.
Here, you can sit and chat, have a snack and socialise. If you like
exercise, then we have an excellent sports hall for football, bandy,
gymnastics, etc. Those who like games will enjoy our games room. It
offers board games, PS3, etc.

refreshments, socialise and speak Swedish. This is the meeting place for
those who have been here some time and those who have just arrived.

municipality’s civil servants while also meeting and speaking with other
people over a cup of coffee. It is possible to get trained teachers to help
you with your Swedish or your school homework. The library is closed,
