International Mail USPS International Mailing Guide & On-Line Customs Forms Instructions. International mail is any mail not going to the 50 States, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. APO and FPO addresses (Military Mail) are considered International. All mail (regardless of weight or packaging) that contains items other than paper require customs forms. How can I send International Mail? International Mail can be sent at a Post Office, on line using Click-N-Ship or through Cornell Mail Metering. What you can do at USPS.com • Use for Click-N-Ship services (prepaid service) • Look up restrictions for mailing to specific countries • Packing instructions/help • Pricing • Order mailing supplies Addressing Jane Doe Cornell University A123 Goldwin Smith Hall 232 East Ave • To ensure your mail reaches it’s destination, be sure to address it correctly. • Always write the address directly on the item you are shipping. • You must list the country name in English. All other can be written in it’s specific language. Does it move or make noise? Remember, Never send: • Flammable material • Alcoholic beverages • Perfume, nail polish or other alcohol based items. • Ammunition • Tobacco products • Explosives • Chemicals Package Size and Weight • Maximum weight for most international mail is 70lbs. Check online for specific countries. • Maximum size for most international mail is 109 inches measure by longest side + girth (around). Check online for specific countries. Some countries may have different regulations on size and weight. Check at USPS.com for your destination. Customs Forms • If using Click-n-Ship or going to a Post Office, go to USPS.com and follow the instructions. • If using Cornell Mail Metering go to: https://cns.usps.com/go/ShippingInformationAction_input (Works best using Mozilla Foxfire as the browser) What you will see? Fill out form as directed. Remember if you have questions click on the little blue i to get more information. Some campus street addresses are not recognized by the Postal Service. If this happens, use 311 E. Palm Road for street address and then your building name and room number on the Apt/Suite/Other line. Click on “Next Select a Service”(Items over 4lbs go Priority Mail) Click here for Express Mail (also requires Express Label) Click here for 1st class international mail Or, choose the Priority Service you need. Click “Next Enter Customs Information” 1st Class International Page Choose either Parcel (boxes, padded mailers, tubes) Or Large envelope (not padded) Click “Next Enter Customs Information” List all items inside package. Click Print Customs Form To Edit or Reprint click here. Do not hit finish until you have successfully printed your forms! What your forms will look like • The form for 1st Class international mail will print one page with two copies. Sign both forms • Piece with the red square is the customer (your) copy. All other parts of this form must be submitted. What does a Priority Mail Customs Form look like? • This form will print 5 copies of the same page. • Page 5 is the customer (your) copy. Sign all forms. • 4 forms must be submitted with the package.
