It's that time to uncover our ponies and let them out to stretch their legs. There is a lot of excitement in the MOCSEM air as of late. For the first time in history, we had preregistration available online for our swap meet. The swap meet was a huge success as usual, and gets better and better each and every year! Huge thank you to Village Ford for everything once again! Next on the list is that in the first week of opening online registration for Mustang Memories 2012, we have received about 50 pre-registrations already! I would say we are off to an amazing start. The first show meeting is about to take place, committees are starting to get together for workers, and here's a reminder that it is only 4 short months away! And the biggest excitement is our upcoming general meeting on May 8th to be held inside the auditorium at the Ford World Headquarters. This will be an historic event for MOCSEM! We have a lot of special Ford guests who will be in attendance to speak and to see what a great group of Ford customers and enthusiasts we have in our great club! This meeting will be from 5-7 pm unlike our normal meeting time. I highly suggest you all try to make arrangements to be at this meeting, as this is a huge example of what an amazing benefit it is to be a member of MOCSEM! You must be a MOCSEM member to attend, we will be checking membership ID cards at the door. This ensures us that our members are the ones who benefit and are able to enjoy such an historic event! You all will be impressed with the members of Ford brass who will be in attendance. You may arrive anytime after 4:00 pm (not before) to lot 1, which is right in front of main entrance into the World Headquarters (Michigan Avenue side). Half of the lot will be devoted to our club. At 4:45 pm you will be able to start entering the building. You will be checked for membership ID and checked off of our list and then directed right into the auditorium by our board members. No roaming in the building will be allowed. Once inside the auditorium, cameras will be allowed, and only bottled water. There will be NO food at this meeting. Hopefully with the meeting being so early, this will not be an issue as we will be concluding around 7:00 pm, and that gives everyone plenty of time to go grab dinner anywhere you choose. I cannot stress enough how this will be the highlight event of the year, besides Mustang Memories! It will be talked about for many years to come! Please, if you usually can't make it to a meeting, please try to make this one as it will be one you will never forget. The auditorium holds 450 people. I would love to have a packed house to show Ford Motor Company what amazing backing they have from our club! See you all there! About the Club The Mustang Owners Club of Southeastern Michigan (MOCSEM) was founded in November 1975 by a group of individuals with the desire to protect and preserve the Ford Mustang as one of the most attractive and fun filled cars ever made. We are enthusiasts of all ages with a love affair with the many generations of America’s Premiere Pony Car. Whether it’s a coupe, convertible or fastback from 1964½ to the 2012 GT or the 2004 Cobra, we love them all. The mission of club members is to collect, restore and preserve the history of the Mustang along with the stories of the people and the roles that they played in making this one of the great cars of the 20th Century. Although ownership is not a requirement for membership, your enthusiasm, expertise, and / or love of the automobile are most welcome. Many of our club members own one or more Mustangs in varying body styles, models and years. Club members are always exchanging information, providing sources for parts, literature and helpful hints for restoring or maintaining their Mustangs. Our members are a diverse group of individuals, located throughout Southeastern Michigan and all share a great appreciation for the Ford Mustang. Our general membership meetings are held on the second Tuesday of each month. Our monthly newsletter, The Accelerator, provides the members with reports on club activities, technical information, advertisements and business service locations and more. Some club activities include car shows, picnics, sporting events, cruise nights and technical sessions. Effective June 1, 2012, the regular annual dues for MOCSEM members will be increased to $35 from the current level of $30. The membership has grown considerably in the past few years, as has the number of benefits offered to the members. Benefits that include food at cruise-ins, reserved parking spots at events, special events like factory tours, informative, up-todate web site and newsletter, vendor discounts, charitable donations and many, many more. To give you a little perspective, dues have not increased in over 12 years, but the benefits available to members have increased significantly. Increasing dues allows the club to continue to maintain and improve the fantastic benefits available to members. To help reduce the impact of this increase, prior to June 1, 2012, you may renew your membership or start a new membership for up to 10 years at the current rate of $30 per year. The entire cost must be paid prior to June 1, 2012. Effective June 1, 2012, dues will be $35 per year and paid 1 year at a time. You may join or renew by mail, in person at the April or May General Meetings or online at www.mocsem.com. March 13, 2012 General Meeting By Kathy Janus and Tracy Rey MOCSEM Board members Meeting started with Board Introductions. President: th Mike Rey announced the Ford WHQ meeting for May 8 which came about thanks to Mike Grudnicki. We have gotten six responses from Ford execs to attend the meeting which is an earlier time than usual, 5-7pm. You can take pictures. This will be the event of the year besides Mustang Memories. You MUST have your MOCSEM membership card to get in the door. Info will be on the website. No food will be served at this meeting. There will be possible souvenirs from the event. The club has tripled in size since 2005. We as a Board have decided we must raise dues by $5 from $30 to $35 a year. The last dues’ increase was January 2000. We will not have any “cruise deals” for $20. The only “deals” on dues will be at the Spring swap and Mustang st Memories. The increase takes place June 1 . We decided for anyone who wants, you can renew for st multiple years before June 1 for the old rate of $30 per year up to 10 years. Web Admimistrator: Craig announced a cake for celebrating Ken and Kathy’s wedding. April could not attend, so Craig is giving her report. th April 14 - comedy night Grub and Grins--$29 per person dinner show at Joey’s on Plymouth. The money is due in advance. It was a huge success and just keeps getting better and better every year. A special thanks to the 26+ MOCSEM volunteers who made it all possible. And also a special thanks to Village Ford who allowed us to take over their entire service facility and provided refreshments for everyone. For the first time, we had vender preregistration and all but one of the 54 vendor spaces sold prior to the swap. We also had Pay-Pal available for registration and it worked out very well with 16 vendors taking advantage of it. Another first this year: we offered the vendors a choice of Jimmy John sandwiches to purchase. We placed the order for them and delivered the sandwiches to their swap spaces. Thirty-four sandwiches were ordered by 13 vendors. The vendors said this was an excellent idea and thanked us for offering the service. Merchandise sales was another success with close to $800 in sales This was a ten-time improvement over the 2011 event. We introduced credit card purchases for merchandise and membership sales. Twenty percent of our merchandise sales was by credit card. This was a test run for Mustang Memories and proved to be a big success and customer pleaser. We also signed up four new members and renewed 17 memberships. This is your club and it is you who make it successful by volunteering your time. Hopefully, you, as club members, will continue to support your club and volunteer for our upcoming events and especially Mustang Memories. Thanks again to all those who volunteered to make this year's event a major success. Shortly after ordering the Grabber Orange GT convertible, she became ill with kidney failure. The Mustang was delivered late in the fall and I was able to take her for a few rides before we had to put it up for the winter. Unfortunately, my mother passed away from pneumonia that winter before we had a chance to go for another ride. Since then, I have added several accessories to enhance the appearance and performance including a Roush front facia and rear spoiler and MRT light bar. I have also added AG Customs headlight splitters, tail light splitters, mirror caps, and rear diffuser. On the performance side, I have added a Flowmaster exhaust system and a Nitrous Express plate system. Last summer, I was the NMRA and NMCA 14 Second races and Milan Dragway. I think my mother would be proud of her Mustang.
