September 2012 EDMONTON SKYDIVE NEWS The most epic news, jumps and stories from Edmonton Skydive to your inbox. SEAN LA ROSE DOES HIS 3000TH SKYDIVE! Congratulations to Sean La Rose who did his 3000th skydive recently. Sean celebrated the jump with a 2-point, 12-way from the King Air over Edmonton Skydive. Here’s to another 3000, Sean. Family Ties It’s always cool when family members can share the experience of skydiving together. Admittedly though, it’s not very often that you see three generations in the air at the same time. So Edmonton Skydive was pretty stoked at the opportunity to introduce all three generations, Ray, Doug and Connor Rutherford to the sport of skydiving. Those Rutherfords sure know how to plan family outings! Hope to see you in the air again soon. “We had three generations skydive for my grandson’s birthday. Just wanted to let you know it was a real thrill for Connor as well as his dad and myself. The professionalism and excellent service was well displayed.” - Ray Rutherford - [1] In this picture: The youngest of three Rutherford generations, Connor, does his first skydive with TM Jamo. TRAILER TRASH Alympics is Officially On! Alympics officially kicked off last weekend....and in style! On Saturday, the King Air ran hot most of the day with some experienced jumpers taking the opportunity to practice their Alympic’s jumping events. After the sun went down, Alympics kicked into high gear with the 1st Annual Trailer Trash Ghetto Crawl. Special thanks to all of the trailer trash who hosted and participated in the event. It was trash-tactular! Don’t forget about the rest of the Alympic’s jumping events: Best Theme Jump Let your creativity loose with the most disturbing, sexy or hilarious costume imaginable, and take it to the sky. Best-ist Idea Jump An Al original (who else could bastardize the English language like that), you’ll get rewarded for the most unique, radical or badass 60 seconds of a skydive (freefall or canopy). Only BSR compliant and safe skydives allowed! Most Impressive 2-Way This is a straight test of your team’s flying skills. The team with the most points in time (35 seconds) is crowned the winner and gets bragging rights. * Jumps can happen anytime during the month. * One video/team/person. * Edmonton Skydive will cover the video slot on submission jumps. For an extra twist, we’ll have the end of the course facing the entry of the pond. Swoop & Keg Stand The classic skydiver event, turned upside down! This is the ultimate combination of skydiving and beer drinking skills. Not just for swoopers; this is an accuracy and beer drinking challenge. Time penalties and ridicule will apply for spillage. The fun doesn’t stop once the sun goes down! Inflatable Night Fun with inflatables. Some things are best left secret. You’ll just have to be here for this one. Relay Packing This may be the only time you want to pack! Nothing like a little team competition to make it interesting. Tequilimbo Because regular limbo is just too easy, best to add tequila. Battle Shots The after hours, skydiver version of Battleship. Which skydiver is likely to get sunk? Ghetto Crawl Highlights Top: Kozak dirt dives a BASE jump from 12 feet. Course participants and Edmonton Skydive were fortunate to have the highly talented, Monique Andrie, facilitating the course. Monique, as usual, put on an awesome course and put the new coaches through their paces. The course participants included three Edmonton Skydive staff, Nadene Beyerbach, Jamie Hughes Gage (Jamo) and Joey Allen, plus a special visitor from Skydive South Sask, Jason Warren. Jamo is in the process of converting all of his Australian skydive ratings to the CSPA equivalent ratings. The Coach 2 plays an important role on the dropzone coaching relative work and canopy skills to solo and A CoP skydivers. They have signing authority for “A” RW endorsement, Group RW endorsement, Sport Canopy Endorsement and Emergency Procedures review. If you’re interested in organizing a ratings course please speak with manifest or talk to Al Christou. A special thanks to Monique. Looking forward to having you back at Edmonton Skydive. And special congratulations to all of the new C2’s! Photo: Sean La Rose Congrats to our new Coach 2’s!
