EXPERIMENTAL AIRCRAFT ASSOCIATION President’s Letter/Tale Wheel View ­Tom McDowell Hope everyone had a nice Easter. As I write this, it is Good Friday. Just got home from visiting Dan Lance, Whitey’s son. I asked him if he had a good photo of Whitey, preferably with his airplane and any Young Eagles. He did not find any, so I will ask ALL of you to please dig into you old photos for a photo like this. As a matter of fact, I know there are some nice photos of everyone who is reading this, so I ask you to please either bring a copy to the meeting or send me a photo through email. __________________________________________________________________________________________
Chapter Home Report​

Tom Mcdowell Just the other day, we installed the steps and handrails in front of our Chapter home. Thank you to Bill Christensen for your help. With help, we don’t have to spend a lot of time to get things done. Bill and I knocked this out in a couple hours. Still needs a bit of work, but I think you’ll agree, it does look a lot better. Art picked up the steel steps that we just replaced. They are in the back for now. Hope you got reimbursed Art. 1 We now have all of our Hats, Shirts, patches, pins etc. in one location. This storage cabinet is located in the Chapter office. Robin volunteered to step up to do the inventory and storage of all our stuff. Once this is all put away, I will post an inventory list in the newsletter. Just want to make sure everyone is aware, that we cannot and will not order any clothing with the trademark emblem if not ordered from Oshkosh. The emblems on the two shirts to the right are ours and we can do what we want with them. We will ask Oshkosh if they will put ‘our’ emblem on the back of the trademark cloths. If not, we will order stuff with our emblem. The Dark Blue collared shirt comes in many colors, with or without a pocket. I can get them with your name embroidered in it to. They will range between $18.00 to $20.00 each. I also priced out White 11oz. coffee cups with our emblem on them. They will range between $8 and $10. Each. Majd Bostani Hello everyone, As you can tell, this newsletter has been published a couple of weeks earlier than usual. Tom and I were discussing on ways to clean up the mess that I made after I received this position. First of all, I sincerely apologize for all of the late newsletters and take full responsibility for them. From now on, we hope to publish the newsletter for the first day of the new month. We believe that this change will benefit everybody in the chapter and make the newsletter a recap of a month rather than half one month, and half another. This means a few things. One, I am going to be a bit stricter on myself and with all of you with deadlines. I’m going to stay firm with a deadline for articles of 7 days before the end of the month. If you have anything that should be past due for any reason, please e­mail me. If you don’t e­mail me beforehands, then it will become a mess yet again and I don’t feel as if I should hold the newsletter up for any past due articles that I wasn’t informed of. I also will extend deadlines for events. If we have an event on the last week of the month, then I will find a way to work around that. Also, this is going to mean a more thorough recap of the past month as opposed to a half­and­half. Majd Bostani As we all probably know, one of our airport’s major tenants, Skydive Cross Keys has been having struggles. It, along with it’s two sister companies down in Sussex, NJ and in Airglades, FL have went bankrupt. Skydive Cross Keys eventually was sold to one of the company’s longtime pilots. It has still been a tough rebound for Skydive Cross Keys, which is still buried in bankruptcy even with efforts to get back into the green. It recently got worse for the skydiving center. It, along with all of its’ sister companies have to sell five of their planes. 3 Sadly, those five planes were the workhorses of each company's fleets. Skydive Cross Keys, the flagship company owns a Beechcraft C90B King Air and a De Havilland Twin Otter 100. Both planes are advertised to hold more than 13 skydivers, and take them up for a jump run at 13,500 feet. The skydive center is going to have it even harder now, since both workhorses are due to be sold. The King Air is registration number N660GW. It is a 1974 Beechcraft C90B King Air, with about 13,700 hours on the airframe. It comes loaded with a Garmin GNS530 WAAS­autopilot coupled GPS, as well as a few other improvements. The plane is still being flown to this day (Easter Sunday), and will be up for auction ending on Tuesday April 13, 2016. ​
http://www.tranzon.com/AP16023­4 The Twin Otter, registration number N121PM is also up for bankruptcy auction. It is the 14th Twin Otter built, and is a 1966 model. It definitely puts the work in workhorse, as it has 50,000 hours on it. It has an Aspen Primary Flight Display, and two Garmin GNS530s. However, that plane has been mothballed for as long as I know, so I’m not sure how long it’s been since that plane has last flown. However, the sale of both of these aircraft will not spell the beginning of the end. Based off of some investigation I have done, it looks like the skydive school will be leasing aircraft until they have money to buy their own. On Easter Sunday, I saw the owner fly a 1958 Cessna 182A leased from a company down in Florida 4 taking a load of skydivers up to altitude. Their season opener, which is happening on the first weekend of May is advertised to have a Grand Caravan turboprop, a King Air, a Stearman, and a Helicopter taking up skydivers all day long. That has left the question of which King Air will they be flying, as their King Air is due to be sold on April 13, 2016. Regardless, it looks like Skydive Cross Keys will remain in operation with the new owners, in spite of the financial issues. Anyhow, you can check out the planes at ​

ATTENDANCE: There were a total of 19 members and 2 guests, Billy Farrell and his mother LeeAnn Farrell. Billy is 16, in high school and is interested in flying. He’s an excellent candidate for a Young Eagles Flight. CALL TO ORDER: At 7:33 PM by Pres. Tom McDowell with a pledge of allegiance to the flag. Pres. Tom reminded every of our member in distress, Whitey, who is now in an assisted living facility in Flemington, NJ. Contact information is in the newsletter. He also talked about the $50.00 contributions to the Woodbury Presbyterian Church and the Ostomy Association that we agreed to send as Betty McLeod wished. READING OF MINUTES: The minutes of the February meeting were approved as published in the newsletter. TREASURER’S REPORT: February’s beginning balance was $2839.08 and the ending balance was $2215.78. We had income from interest, dues, and calendar sales totaling $68.21. We had expenses from electric bills, NJMV registrations, presentation DVD’s, Cooper Building supplies and Chapter dues, insurance and donation totaling $691.51. The ending balance was $2839.08. A motion was made, seconded and passed to accept the Treasurer’s Report as submitted. TECHNICAL COUNSELORS REPORT: One inspection, his RV­12. FLIGHT ADVISORS REPORT: No calls. OLD BUSINESS: On March 5, 8 members had breakfast at the Harrison House and met 2 members and a guest at the Dover AFB Air Mobility Command Museum, and explored the many exhibits both inside and out. rd​
Note, on the 3​ Saturday of each month the outside aircraft are open for visitors. Awards Banquet – March 30. Get your money to Dan. Currently there are 34 members signed up; we need 40. The EAA has new rules for Young Eagle flights including background checks for pilots. NEW BUSINESS/DISCUSSION: Pres Tom bought handrails for the Cooper Building and they will be put up when the weather breaks. Jim Naphas thinks Rob Holms is a great candidate for an Eagle Flight. He has talked it over with EAA and he and Rob are planning a flight. John Lewis is selling some land around the Cooper Building. Bill Christensen has a sewing machine and has made 4 seats, airplane covers and other items all of top quality. Roy is selling his house and has found many pictures for the Chapter including Fly­ins and the B­17 visits. 6 Things to accomplish this year: Complete the office area, Business cards, Shirts, Storage cabinet in the office so all Chapter items can be stored there. EVENTS: Pancake Breakfasts on June 4, August 13, and November 5 followed each day with a Young Eagles day on June 5, August 14, and November 6. First Saturdays: April 2, meet at Brooklawn Diner at 08:30 and then travel to the Wings of Freedom Aviation Museum at Willow Grove, PA. May will be changed to May 14, 0900 at the Harrison House and then go to the Friends of Bellanca Airfield Museum in Wilmington, DE. June is our Pancake Breakfast, and July 2­4 is Independence Day. On August 6, 09:00 or 09:30 at the Central Jersey Airport diner and then to the Air Victory Museum. Reminder: June 11 at Masseys, Potomac Antique Aero Squadron. There is also interest in a trip to Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome. ADJOURNMENT: The program ended at 8:16 PM.
