Oskarshamn municipality is
surrounded by exciting waters
for fishing. Along the coast of the
Baltic Sea there are a lot of places
to fish sea trout, pike and perch
during most parts of the year.
Throughout the forests of
Småland you can find both lakes
with rainbow trout such as Put
and Take as well as idyllic forest
lakes with a great variety of
species such as pike, perch, bream
and zander.
The river Emån is famous
for its large trout, proven by
continuously breaking the
international records. The
mythical catfish has one of its
main habitat in the river Emån.

Rules for fishing along the coast
• Swedish and foreign citizens are allowed to fish using lures in public places and
private waters along the coast. Lure fishing include fishing rods.
• Trolling on private waters (300 m from the coast or islands) is prohibited
without the consent of license providers.
• Minimum sizes in the Baltic Sea: salmon 60 cm, sea trout 50 cm, pike 40 cm,
zander 40 cm.
• Along the coast there are restrictions for pike. Only three per day and fisherman
with the size 40-75 cm.
• Salmon and trout fishing is prohibited in all streams that flow into the Baltic Sea
between the 1st of October and the 31st of December.
• Fishing for perch or pike is prohibited along the coast between the 1st of April
and the 31st of May from Emån and south and towards the northern tip of
Öland.
• Note that fish caught during the closed season, or that do not meet the minimal
requirement, must be released back into the water immediately.
• Lure fishing is prohibited within 100 m of the commercial fishermen’s fixed gear
or farms.

Closed seasons, protected areas and reserves
• Virån: Fishing prohibited between the 1st of October and the 31st of December
outside of Virån within a 1000 m radius of Virbo millpond.
• Marströmmen: Fishing prohibited between the 1st of October and the 31st of
December outside of Marströmmen within a 1000 m from the midpoint of the
line from the sinkers northern tip due west to the opposite shore. • Emån: Fishing prohibited between the 1st of September and the 31st of
December around Emåns estuary within imaginary straight lines from Åsehorns
lighthouse to the southern badge of Storgrundet, to Littlös southern tip and
further towards the croft of Skälevik on the mainland
• All fishing is prohibited in the sea outside of the Oskarshamn plant, within a 300
m radius of the mouth of Hamnfjärden.
• Fishing is normally prohibited within the nature reserves and bird sanctuaries.
Special rules may be present.

Everyone has the responsibility to comply with current fishing rules and
constraints and to purchase correct and valid licenses when needed.
Moreover, you should show moral and ethical consideration when you fish
and aim to preserve the largest and smallest specimen of each species.
Never keep more fish than you are able to eat. In doing so, you help ensure
a future for both the fish and for the fishermen. The basic principle of our
Swedish Right of Public Access is that nature is open to each and every one
of us, but this also requires a self-evident duty of care towards nature and
respect for people and animals alike
Catch & Release
In order to protect the stocks of fish in our waters, all anglers abide to catch &
release, which basically means that you release the fish, providing it is undamaged.
By releasing fish, you help ensure that we keep a strong and healthy population of
fish. When it comes to perch, you can catch a few for dinner, but drop the larger
and smaller ones back into the water
