President Ron Howard
Another terrific show at the Big E, but made even more
special by it being named in honor of Mr. Richard Anderson. As
the founder of Anderson Hill Farm (VT), he was also known
throughout our organization as a pioneer for the breed and
affiliating his name with this prestigious show was very fitting. It was reported
that 1000 people from 15 countries continuously watched the show online this
year! The results of the show are in this issue! Congratulations to all who
exhibited!
Also, another reminder for everyone to share their e-mail addresses with the
CLRC and Vic, so we can include you in our future E-news Blasts. Covering
material beyond the Beltie Newsletter, the e-mails will include opportunities and
news that you will not want to miss! Council member Scott Griffith was
instrumental in getting this new service to members off the ground! You will
also want to watch for more information about the Premium Sale at Louisville,
as I understand there are some excellent cattle consigned.
Finally, I hope to see as many of you as possible at our Annual Meeting and
we hope you are making plans to attend the National Show and Premium Sale in
Louisville!

We Need Your Photography
Fundraising Cookbook Project
A big “thank you” to Kaye Woolam Weaber (VA) for sharing her fall photo shot of cattle at Meadowood Farms (NY),
featured on the front page of this issue.
The newsletter office desperately needs your photographs!
We use them for breed promotion, in the newsletter and now
The Belted Galloway Journal. This year, 75 photos were uploaded to Naylor for use in the Journal publication. Naylor
used the photos that “best fit” articles and promotion. The
front page photo was taken by animal photographer, Lynn
Stone (IL), during a visit to Klover Korners Farm (IL).
Please remember that all photography must be at least
300dpi. Email your photography to: [email protected].
Our Foundation fundraising project needs your support! The
Belted Galloway Cookbook Project needs 100 more recipes to
make the cookbook a success. Please send your submissions to
Kristina M. Von Dohrmann, PO Box 130, Jefferson, NH 03583.
Culled/Deceased Animals
Please return all registration/recordation papers to
the CLRC for deceased or culled animals. Your help
will ensure the Society database is up-to-date and
member herd inventories are accurate.

The Belted Galloway Journal
Jon Bednarski Chairman Advertising & Promotion
After several delays, the 2011 Belted Galloway Journal has reached our membership. If for
any reason you have not received your copy,
please contact Executive Director Vic
Eggleston. I hope, however, you will feel the
end product was worth the wait. We have asked Naylor
LLC., the producer of the Journal (and they accepted), to
attend our Annual Meeting in Florida. They will be available
to answer questions many of you have on current and future
advertising and content.
I believe the Journal has a great group of editorials which
make it interesting to read. As we look ahead to the 2012
Journal, we will need new stories to share about our member
farms. If you, or another Beltie owner you know, has had an
interesting story written by another publication and would
like to share it with our members, please contact me at
[email protected]. In addition, if you have an
unwritten story to tell, we have writers available to handle
that as well.
The Belted Galloway Journal will be a tremendous tool for
promoting our breed, I hope we can work together to make
the 2012 issue the best one ever.
E-News Blast
Scott Griffith Chairman Communication, Education &
Information Technology
Last month we emailed our inaugural, first edition of the Belted Galloway Society E-News
to over 17,000 breeders and Beltie enthusiasts. The
E-News was just in time to highlight the Big E and
World Beef. This was also our initial contact with the folks
who registered for the heifer giveaway in Grit magazine. The
BGS E-News was not a one-time event and will, in fact, be a
regular and unique way for us to keep you informed and
aware of Beltie shows, sales and other items of interest.
If you did not receive our E-News, then we very likely do
not have your email address. This can be easily remedied by
simply sending an email to Vic at [email protected] and asking to be added to the list. We look for
the E-News to evolve and expand in the future as we bring
Belties to the electronic information highway!

Wisconsin Farm Technology Days. Terry Etheridge (WI)
talking Belties to interested WI FTD attendees.
The 2011 Wisconsin Farm Technology Days, the state
premier outdoor agricultural show and one of the largest in
the nation, was held just north of Marshfield, WI at Seehafer
Acres, Inc, owned and operated by Ken & Karen Seehafer
July 12 - 14. The three-day event showcased more than 600
exhibitors over 4 miles of “city” streets. Ten different breeds
of cattle were on display in the 40 x 240 foot Wisconsin
Cattlemen’s Beef Tent, which also housed several other beefrelated exhibits and demonstrations.
With near perfect weather, organizers expect the final
attendance count to range between 70-80,000 visitors over the
three days. Large crowds viewed TEK Cattle’s pair of
yearling heifers and an inviting GLBGA display hosted by
Terry and Karlyn Etheridge (WI) and Pat and Nancy Snyder
(WI). Everyone was kept busy distributing literature and
answering questions about the characteristics and attributes of
the breed from many interested producers who are
considering adding Belties to their herds, non-producers who
would like to add cattle to their land, and consumers looking
for a healthy alternative to store-bought beef. Plans are well
underway for next year’s show, July 17 – 19, in Outagamie
County just outside of New London, WI to be hosted by
Sugar Creek Farm LLC and Heideman Farms.

About advertising … Classified ads are free to members. All classified
ads are automatically placed on the Hotline on the internet. Two-month
limit on classified insertions. Please include contact information as
you wish it to appear — name, farm, location, phone, Fax and
Email, if any. For all Emails — Place Hotline in the Subject line.
Please Email to [email protected], Fax 608-527-4811or
phone (608) 220-1091. We encourage members to submit ads the last
two weeks of the month. Advertising bulls … Before advertising a
young male as a breeder we must be sure he is well conformed, tracks
properly, has good legs and feet, and exhibits good weight gains. We
should have data available on his birth weight, 205-day weaning weight,
and yearling weight. If he's reached breeding age (around 18 months),
it's definitely a plus to have his semen checked for quantity and motility.
Any data available should appear in your advertisement along with his
birth date and the names of his sire and dam. Further, it is required
that registration numbers be included on bulls advertised for sale in
the Hotline and newsletter.
