Northdale Civic Association (NCA)
has numerous committees that need
assistance,

county
relations, events, deed restrictions,
computers, finance, advertising and
publishing this newsletter.
DEED RESTRICTION
VIOLATIONS
Residents can request an investigation
of deed restriction violations.
Complaints need to be in writing or
submitted online. The NCA conducts
periodic neighborhood inspections
and will act on their findings when
necessary.

form on line or pick one up at the UPS

Easter Egg Hunt; Community Garage
Sales; Family Fun Festival; Northdale
Pumpkin Run; Holiday Decorating
Contest; Meet the Candidates; and
the Northdale OWLS (Older, Wiser,
Lively, Seniors). Board Meetings are
open to the public.

HOW TO JOIN THE BOARD
When a violation occurs a letter will be
sent to the violating homeowner with
a request to correct the problem.
After a reasonable amount of time
passes, and the problem persists, the
coordinator may contact you with the
available options. Some of these
options could include legal action
against the homeowner.
The NCA will not become involved in
conflicts between neighbors, animal
problems or landscape issues due to
drought.
All members are eligible to run for
NCA Board positions in elections
held each May. Elections for those
positions are made by the sitting
board at the monthly board meetings.
The dates of those meetings are
posted in the Community
Calendar.

NORTHDALE
EASTER EGG HUNT
The Egg Hunt was a huge success. The weather was perfect. There were over 400 kids attending who enjoyed
the bounce house and the raffle as well as the hunt. The Easter Bunny made a surprise visit so that parents could
take pictures of their children with the bunny. 30 baskets were donated by our sponsors and raffled off along
with one big one for the Mom's. Approximately 4,000 eggs were put out in two areas, divided by age, along
with four golden eggs. Children traded there eggs in for goody bags, and the golden
eggs for prizes.

President’s Letter
The NCA will hold its Annual Meeting on Monday, May 18th at 7 PM at the Northdale Park Recreation Center,
15550 Spring Pine Drive. Election for the 2015-2016 NCA Board of Directors will take place that night. The
meeting is open to the public. We currently have two open positions to be filled on the board. NCA Board
Members serve because they take great pride in this wonderful community and want to ensure that it
continues to be a great place to live, work, play and raise a family. If you are interested in joining us in our
efforts, please come to a meeting to learn more about what is involved. The NCA Board meets the third
Monday of every month, except December. Meetings generally last no more than one hour.
On June 1st the 2015-2016 NCA Membership Campaign will begin. Annual dues will
remain $35.00 per household as they have for many years. It is my sincere hope that a
majority of our residents will support the community by making this small investment
(less than $3/month). I want to point out that we are not an HOA with lien rights and
mandatory dues. We count on our residents to voluntarily support the community in
which they have chosen to make their housing investment. We in turn volunteer to
represent the Northdale community and promote the best interests of the residents.
The NCA has been dealing with complaints regarding the large roll cart garbage and recycle
bins that the county provided for automated collection for almost two years now. We
would have to send out hundreds of deed restriction violation letters to address the issue
of these and other trash bins not being stored out of sight on non-collection days. There is
a home where thousands of dollars of exterior improvements were recently made; new
stucco, fresh paint, new roofing, new doors and windows, etc. It looks amazing! However,
the trash bins perpetually sitting in front of the garage just detract and are unsightly.
I want to extend my appreciation to Martha Hughes who did a tremendous job as chairperson of this year’s
Spring Egg Hunt at Northdale Park on April 4th. I hope many of you were able to come enjoy the Family Fun
Festival & Parade on April 11th. Thank you to all who worked so hard to help make it a success.

Just because Mardi Gras is over doesn’t mean we have to stop enjoying the traditions of New Orleans. I’m talking
about some great cooking and some great jazz. Greg and LaToya Brown have created a place for both. The
Browns like to help in the community so TACE Lounge is a non-profit organization. Their profit goes to support
local programs that focus on youth leadership.
The Browns knew that to support a New
Orleans style restaurant you need to
bring in a seasoned pro so they got Chef
Tom Mack. Tom is truly an amazing chef,
having worked for years in several top
New Orleans restaurants and as a cook on
oil rig platforms, where “Those guys
expect it to tastes like Mom’s.” The menu
includes everything from seafood
beignets to Gumbo, and Etouffée to
Jambalaya. Other great dishes include
Shrimp and Grits, Bayou Duck and even a
rare find, Blackened Redfish. Then come
the incredible desserts like White
Comfortable Dining
Chocolate Bread Pudding, Bacon Maple
Praline Cheesecake, NOLA three-layer cake and others. Prices are reasonable and the food is great.
The interior of TACE Lounge is nicely decorated, Greg is an alumni of
USF and allows USF art students to display their artwork. All of the
art is available for sale, the money goes directly back to the students.
TACE Lounge offers live jazz music on Friday and Saturday nights.
Greg’s favorite style is Dixieland. They have a nice stage area and a
bar. You can also enjoy live Mardi Gras and old skool Motown on 2nd
and 3rd Thursdays starting at 7:30 p.m. TACE venue is also popular
for hosting large private events and parties from graduation to
retirement, women’s breakfast, Church functions, etc.

Come try TACE Lounge for a great meal and a relaxing time. They are open for lunch and dinner during the week
and they open early on the weekend so you can grab some fresh beignets and coffee. They are closed on
Mondays.

Deed Restriction Committee Report
When Hillsborough County decided to distribute trash and recycle containers last
year, no one envisioned any negative impact on our community. Here we are
sometime later and many homeowners have yet to determine how to keep them
from an unsightly view. We have heard from many homeowners on how difficult it is to keep them from view
on non collection days. Some say their garages are too full, some say it is difficult to drag them around when a
property gate is not close by and others do not see why they are unsightly. The bottom line is this: trash and
recycle containers must be kept from view on non-collection days. Most of our homeowners make every
attempt to abide by this rule and we feel that if most could do it then all should try. Trash containers especially
those that are parked in front of a garage all week make for an ugly sight and an ugly sight will depreciate your
property values and your neighbors as well.
Vehicle Parking: We receive many questions about extending a driveway. The NCA has no issue with a
homeowner widening their driveway. We only request the extension be completed with the same material as
the original driveway. The NCA feels a driveway extension is better than parking on the grass or blocking the
pathway. It is not fair to a disabled person or a mother pushing a stroller to have to enter the street to get
around a vehicle. Also if our inspectors see an inoperable vehicle in a driveway then County Code Enforcement
will be notified.
This is the time of year when the neighborhoods look bright with nature blooming. It is also the time of year to
get rid of the unsightly mold and mildew. A little household bleach goes a long way to clean up walls and mail
boxes
Unkempt Property: Ladders, barbeque cookers, paint cans, lawn chairs should be moved into a garage or put
behind a fence, but not let out in plain view.
Again the NCA would like to thank the majority of our homeowners that take pride and do care
for their properties. We realize that the majority want to keep their property looking great and
their values up. The NCA will do whatever we can to help achieve this objective and sometimes
we solicit your help with a particular situation. We also have to deal with the Florida
Homestead rules, which limit us at times. We will be seeking help in the near future from the
Hillsborough County B.O.C.C. with this issue and we will keep you posted on our endeavor.

NORTHDALE SPECIAL TAX DISTRICT REPORT
Well, here we are back in the hurricane season for the next five months. As
author Mark Twain once said “Climate is what we expect; weather is what we
get.”
Along with the storms come thunder, lightning, tornadoes and waterspouts
and we should all be aware of what to do during these conditions. No place is
safe outside when thunder storms are in the area. When you hear thunder,
lightning is not far behind. Immediately seek safe shelter and stay there at
least 30 minutes after you hear the last sound of thunder. Safe off corded phones, computers or other electrical
equipment, avoid plumbing and stay away from windows and doors.
Tornadoes are possible during the storm season so be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued. Go immediately
to an interior room (closet, hallway or bathroom). The wind speeds inside a funnel can reach 500 miles per
hour. Waterspouts are tornadoes that occur over water. Moor your boat and seek shelter.
This warrants repeating; DO NOT announce your vacation plans on social media. Warn your children not to share
your plans with friends via Twitter or Face Book and any of the millions of ways kids talk to each other these
days.
Wall repairs continue and word from our Administrator is that we are moving
forward and should have an update shortly.
Thank you for your support of our recent community events; the annual Easter Egg Hunt brought fun and
goodies to several hundred kiddies. The Family Fun Festival brought in thousands not only from our wonderful
community but all of Hillsborough County. Your support of our great community is appreciated and how
fortunate we are to call Northdale Home.

What is the NSTD?
The Northdale Special Taxing District is a Hillsborough
County dependent tax district. The District was originally
set-up under a State ordinance, but in 1992 was adopted
under County ordinance #92-35. The County collects the
taxes for the District and provides the ordinance or
regulations that give authority to the District. Funds are
derived from the County non-ad valorem tax of $130 per
residential unit. Residents in single family homes, along
with apartments and condominiums are assessed $130.
Also, all properties within Northdale boundaries including
businesses and other non-profit groups are taxed based on
an equitable per residential unit basis.
The District is responsible for maintaining the common
areas throughout Northdale. These areas include the main
entrances coming into Northdale, landscaping in common
areas alongside roadways and medians, neighborhood
entrances, the outer surface of the block walls and along the
roadside. The District also maintains selected lakes and
wetland areas along the main roadways in Northdale.
The District is governed by a Board of nine trustees who are
elected by the public or appointed by the Board. Board
members must be registered voters and reside in Northdale.
The trustees receive no compensation for their work. The
Board has hired an administrator to complete many of the
day-to-day details of the district. The administrator is a subcontracted (paid) position.
Although the District does maintain the common areas in
Northdale, there are many areas that the District does not
control. The District does not maintain roads, street
lighting, street signs, or utility lines. Also, the District does
not maintain private property or enforce deed restrictions.
Deed restrictions are enforced by the Northdale Civic
Association (NCA). The District and the Civic Association
are two different and separate bodies. The District is a
public governmental body and the Civic Association is a
private association of Northdale residents. Only the Civic
Association has authority to issue deed restriction warnings.

What is Relay For Life?
Relay For Life event gives everyone an opportunity to fight cancer
and help save more lives. Teams made up of family members,
friends, and/or coworkers camp out at a local university, school,
park, or fairground and take turns walking around a track or path.
Because cancer never sleeps, each team is asked to have a
representative on the track at all times during the event.
Remember during the Luminaria Ceremony
When the sun goes down, luminaria line the track, each one lit in
honor or memory of those who have faced cancer-those who lost
their battle, those who won, and those whose fight continues. For
many, a Relay For Life event is where they can join together and find
healing from their experience with cancer. The luminaria, each
representing someone special, serve as a tribute to a community’s
fight against cancer

At Relay For Life events, cancer survivors and caregivers can come
together and be recognized for their personal fight against a disease
that has taken too much. In addition to a special ceremony,
Survivors and Caregivers laps open the event and serve as a
testament to the fight against cancer and the hope for a cure. All
survivors and caregivers are invited to join their local Relay For Life
event, no matter where their personal journey with cancer has taken
them.

Relay For Life is the signature fundraising event for the American
Cancer Society. At the event, you will have the opportunity to
celebrate cancer survivors, remember loved ones lost to the disease,
and learn more about how to fight back against cancer. While you’re
raising much needed funds, you’ll also be raising awareness of the
importance of cancer prevention, early detection, treatment, and
patient support.
Fight Back Ceremony
The Fight Back Ceremony inspires Relay participants to make a
personal commitment to help the fight against cancer. That personal
commitment may be as simple as visiting the doctor, getting a
screening test, quitting smoking, or talking to elected officials about
cancer.

Claywell Elementary
2015 School Year
Whole Lot of Claywell Clubs!
Mrs. Kline, the media specialist, is meeting with several grades for various clubs. First grade is re-reading all of
the F.R. A. Children’s Book Contest books to prepare for the upcoming FRA Bowl. Second grade is reading fairy
tales for the upcoming Fairy Tale Bowl. Select second graders are reading Junie B Jones books and having fun
doing Junie B activities. Third grade is reading Dr. Seuss books for the upcoming Seuss Olympic Competition.
Fourth grade will be taking the qualifying test April 30 th to see who make the class team for the Battle of the
Books. Fifth grade is coming weekly for the Mythology Club which focuses on the Percy Jackson series. They
will have the Poseidon Party and the Mythology Bowl at the end of May.
Story Telling Festival
This year’s storytelling festival will be held at the John F. Germany public library on
April 18th from 10:00-3:00. They have a storybook character parade, a bookstore,

Millionaires!
Congratulations to all the students who qualified for the Millionaire’s Club. They had to reach this goal by
March 27th, the end of the third nine weeks. They were treated to an award ceremony on April 6th where
they received a certificate and a prize bag. The top five readers received $25 gift cards to Barnes & Noble. Our
top reader won an E-reader. We are very proud of all our Claywell readers. DON’T STOP READING!
Summer Reading
Make sure to go to our local public library, Jimmy B. Keel. Each summer they host fantastic programs. All
students are also welcome to continue using Myon.com for online reading. Claywell students are participating
in Scholastic’s annual Read for the World Record program. The challenge is to register 1500 minutes of
reading time. Good luck!
Fill A Back Pack!
Our school in conjunction with our Claywell community is helping our families in
need. Our PTA volunteers fill back packs every Friday to send home with families for
the weekend to make sure their food supply is supplemented. We are in need of
donations: pasta, vegetables, rice, cereal, powdered milk, peanut butter, soup, and
canned tuna/chicken. If you are able to donate, please drop it off with the front office
prior to Fridays labeled "Fill A Back Pack". Our school address is 4500 Northdale Blvd

Summer Camp - $76 per 2 week session
Hillsborough County will be offering summer camp from June 16th – August 8th at the Northdale Recreation Center for
children ages 5-12, and Country Place Recreation Center for teens ages 12-16. We will be conducting online registration
beginning May 7th at 12:00 noon. Register online at hillsboroughcounty.org.
Youth After-school Program - $38 per week or less.
Activities include gardening, sports, crafts and fun. Registration is going on now. This program is for 5-11 year olds and
will be filled on a first come, first serve basis.
AAYA Cheerleading - $6 per class
Registration will be held May 21st and classes will be on Wednesday evenings starting May 28th. This program is geared
toward children ages 5-12 years old.
Youth Volleyball - $10 per person
This instructional league is for youth ages 5-14 yrs. old. Participants will receive a t-shirt. Classes will be held on
Tuesdays at 6:00pm 3rd – 5th graders and 7:00pm for middle school age. Additional classes are available on Saturdays at

Paying it Forward

Brenda & Jeff Sproat of Golfers Grail were happy to donate the Clavinova piano to the Owls.
Yes, we could have sold it on Craigslist, but I had already agreed to donate it to The Owls. It is a gift we were happy to
give to the NCA and OWLS organizations who brings joy to the lives of so many people in our community. Paying it
forward, giving back, and supporting each other is very important in today’s difficult economy and business climate. We
must do what we can to support one another.
For example, Golfer’s Grail offers a full menu, but intentionally does not have a kitchen. “We have chosen to give 100%
of our food & catering business to local community restaurants,” Brenda explains. Northdale’ Beef O’Brady’s (who offer
a 15% discount and free delivery to groups at Golfers Grail); Carmel Café, Tijuana Flats and Grillsmith are a few of the
restaurants that cater food to our customers. We also support our community golf retail establishments like T&D Golf &
Edwin Watts by co-marketing and referring customers. In turn, these businesses think of Golfers Grail when their
customers want to practice golf or are planning a special event or a group golf outing indoors.
Fact: We have donated to over 300 charitable functions since opening a couple of years ago, of which the majority are
held in Northdale and Carrollwood areas. Just last month we hosted daily Masters Watch Party contests and donated
100% of the proceeds to Operation Helping Hand to benefit James Haley VA
Hospital initiatives.
It’s no secret that the golf industry as a whole is struggling - the industry has
been "losing" golfers for several years. This impacts everyone! Local country
clubs, equipment manufacturers, public golf courses, golf professionals,
related retail establishments and others. We also do our best to support our
local community golf courses such as Northdale, who in return refer Charity
Tournament organizers to us for Pre-Tournament Pairings Parties and send
golfers our way if their course is closed or to recommend our evening play.
Golfers Grail is in the unique position to bring new people to the game on an
on-going basis. We regularly

Hillsborough Community College, and bring new ladies into the game
through our “Women on Course” (see Page 1 and article on Page 25).
Our facility, in combination with our golf pros, removes the intimidation
factor and the 72 degree comfort of Golfer's Grail makes it a great
experience. In turn, our golf professionals take these groups to Northdale
Golf Club for outdoor instruction including chipping & putting clinics. With
four huge simulator screens, Golfer’s Grail offers 65+ golf courses and fun
games for non-golfers, host adult birthday parties, employee outings,
charity events, business meetings/team building, and golf-related functions
for 6-100 people. Golf is fun at Golfer’s Grail.

New graduates of our clinics ask where should to play? By taking them outside to Northdale they become comfortable
with what they've learned indoors and are less intimidated with things such as setting a tee time, driving a cart, knowing

are always in great condition. It’s also affordable.
