The mission of Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County, Inc. is to build confidence; strong ties between
compassionate volunteers and new homeowners; a richer community through shared hope and common effort
amongst caring people of all faiths; and simple, decent, affordable houses for families in need.
Habitat for Humanity helped more than 81,000 low-income
families around the world in 2011
Habitat for Humanity helped 81,399 families improve their shelter conditions through new construction, rehabilitation
and repairs during its 2011 fiscal year (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011) in nearly 80 countries around the world. This
breaks Habitat’s previous record set in the last fiscal year of 74,960 families served.
Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County is part of this global effort. During 2011, HfHAC built and completed one
home, completed 60% of a second home, rehabbed one home and completed our first repair in partnership with four
low-income families.
"We are so grateful to the volunteers and supporters who have enabled us to help tens of thousands of families around
the world gain access to decent and affordable housing," said Jonathan Reckford, CEO of Habitat for Humanity
International. “With their ongoing support, we will continue to significantly increase the number of families served
annually through our broad spectrum of programs.”
A copy of Habitat for Humanity International’s fiscal year 2011 annual report, which gives a snapshot of Habitat’s work
around the world, is now available online at http://www.habitat.org/support/report/default.aspx.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors Home Repair Program
In 2011 Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County began a new program called the Neighbors Helping Neighbors
(NHN) home repair program. In November we celebrated the completion of our first repair, in partnership with Luke
Erdman, a homeowner in Pagosa Lakes. Through this program, Habitat for Humanity also began a unique partnership
with the PLPOA administration, which will allow us and PLPOA to help other homeowners in need of home repairs.
NHN home repair program is an interior/exterior home preservation service that
offers a variety of repairs, such as painting, landscaping, carpentry, and
weatherization for homeowners in need. NHN helps low-income homeowners
impacted by age, disability, and family circumstances, who struggle to maintain
their homes, reclaim their homes with pride and dignity. The program serves as a
companion to Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County’s core building services,
enabling us to serve more families and increase opportunities for volunteers and
sponsors. Furthermore, Neighbors Helping Neighbors ensures that families live in
safe and well-maintained homes.
Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County is hoping to complete five more home
repair projects in the coming year. The cost to complete one project is
approximately $1500, depending on the type of project. We are seeking people who would be interested in fully or
partially sponsoring a project. We are also looking for volunteers to help work on projects.
Neighbors Helping Neighbors home repair program is about connecting people and restoring homes through simple
acts of kindness so that homeowners can once again live in a safe and decent home. If you would like to learn how you
can sponsor a project, volunteer on a project, or apply for a repair on your home, please call our office at 264-6960.

Ortega Family moves into their new Habitat home—
Just in time for the Holidays!
Family and friends gathered at the Ortega’s new Habitat house in November to help welcome the family into
their new home and celebrate the completion of another Habitat build. The Ortegas worked incredibly hard
on their home, contributing more than 500
sweat equity hours pounding nails and
preparing for homeownership. Incredibly,
volunteer labor totaled more than 2580
hours, saving HfHAC more than $56,800 in
labor costs!
With the leadership of Steve Koneman as
construction supervisor, the Ortega home is
also E-Star certified, a first for Habitat for
Humanity here in Archuleta County. It is 2030% more efficient than a standard home and
provides important cost savings to the
Ortegas. It is also ADA Accessible.
This winter support Habitat for Humanity of Archuleta County
while enjoying a fresh Cuppa Joe.
Habitat for Humanity and Luna Roasters have teamed up and
created the “Home Built Blend” coffee. Each bag of “Home
Built Blend” costs $10.00 and $5.00 from every bag stays right
here in Archuleta County building houses and hope.
Luna Roasters only works with small, family owned farms and
have visited them to ensure good practices and fair wages and
treatment for workers. They have also selected the highest
quality hand-picked Arabica beans for their coffee.
You can now purchase your coffee at Old Town Market or the
Pagosa Springs Visitor Center. You can also call our office at
264-6960 to purchase your coffee.
A BIG THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS!
We would like to thank all of the businesses, organizations and individuals
who partnered with us in 2011. You pounded nails, made lunches, served
on committees, offered prayer, and so much more!
