CUTTING EDGES
of a
shear
HANDHONING creates a razor sharp edge on the cutting
blade. This result, which cannot be duplicated by machine or robot,
is executed by master craftsmen whose families have been sharpening
cutlery for generations.
HOLLOW GRINDING removes steel from the inside
surface of the blade to reduce friction between the blades allowing the
shear to open and close more smoothly. Look for a very slight dip
on the inner blade surface of precision hollow-ground shears.
THE CURVE™ is a unique, patented curved blade developed
by Fromm International that maintains the optimal 21º cutting angle
along the length of the blade. Minimizes hair pushing and creates
super-soft and straight cutting action.
HOLLOWGROUND, CONVEX BLADES
are the sharpest cutting edges available. Convex blades gently curve
around the outside surface to create an airplane wing-shaped blade
with a razor sharp edge.
HOLLOWGROUND, BEVELED BLADES are durable.
The oblique angle, or bevel, ground into the blade creates the cutting edge. Look for the flat surface along the edge of beveled blades.
Additional steel in the beveled blade translates to a more durable edge,
not quite as sharp as convex blades but able to retain its original edge
sharpness longer.
MICROSERRATION to the beveled blades holds hair
evenly across the cutting surface, which prevents hair pushing. Microserration to the teeth of thinners and texturizers results in a smoother
cut and more uniform cutting line.
SUPERPOLISHING between the teeth of thinners and
texturizers allows hair to slide through and fall away without pulling.

STEEL
STEEL TREATMENT
® is a revolutionary new steel specially formulated to provide supersharpness and exceptional wear resistance to hair cutting shears. Smart Steel® Microcarbides are
super-concentrated with Vanadium (the key element for preventing loss of edge sharpness). These
Microcarbides form a super-dense infrastructure within the steel that makes Smart Steel® 5 times
more durable than ordinary steel. Smart Steel® is exclusively available in professional haircutting
shears from Fromm International.
All Fromm Premium shears are hardened and tempered to specific
tolerances for optimal performance. Hardening helps the steel retain
edge sharpness while tempering strengthens the steel enhancing the
hardening and increasing durability.
4112 STEEL is a new harder and tougher steel alloy used in all Fromm Premium Innovation
and Design shears (not including Smart Steel®). The hardness in combination with special honing
compound used creates a finer and sharper edge which cuts softer and holds edge sharpness longer
because there is less friction and wear to the blades.
4109 STEEL is the traditional favorite of cutting tool manufacturers because it offers a blend of
hardness and flexibility that favors a wide range of forging designs.
ICE TEMPERING is an established process (cooling steel to -112º)
in order to increase steel hardness and durability.
300 TEMPERING is a computer-aided super cooling process
(cooling steel to -300º) that results in a denser and tougher steel
infrastructure. Denser, tougher steel is more resistant to fracturing
and dulling. All Fromm Premium Innovation and Design shears are
tempered with this super cooling process.
