A New Beginning - Once Again
The excitement and anticipation is in the air for the upcoming 2016 racing
season at both Hoosier Park and the Indiana fair circuit. Last year saw the
Indiana harness racing program grab national attention with the success
of many standouts, including 2015 Horse of the Year Wiggle It Jiggleit, and
Freaky Feet Pete, winner of the Breeders’ Crown Three-Year-Old Colt Pace.
It is safe to say two of the best horses in the country right
now are products of Indiana’s breeding program and
that success was reflected in the increase of prices at the
yearling sales last fall.
Pari-mutuel racing resumes Friday, April 1 at Hoosier
Park. Everyone has been working hard over the winter to get their horses out. At press time, Indiana has
experienced a mild winter, so many trainers are right on
schedule to get qualified for opening night.
It is safe to say two of
the best horses in the
country right now are
products of Indiana’s
breeding program.
In this issue, you will find schedules, nomination forms
and information about the opportunities available for both the pari-mutuel
and the county fair ranks. Other stories this quarter include the new class of
inductees for the Hall of Fame, new faces in racing, the addition of a passing
lane at Hoosier Park, saying goodbye to Brian Elmore and coverage of the
annual ISA Banquet that honored all of Indiana’s stars from 2015.
A reminder that all insurance forms, membership applications, Elite nominations and other information should be mailed to the new ISA Office location
in Greenfield provided in this issue.
Best of luck to everyone in 2016. Here’s hoping it’s another standout season of
racing in the state of Indiana.

Joe Thompson joins ISA as new
Horsemen’s Representative
By Tara Ellen Taylor
Joe Thompson exudes energy and positivity. He enjoys
helping people. He understands the racetrack lifestyle
both from the backstretch and management perspective.
He has successfully trained horses. He is proactive and
forward-thinking. He is creative. He has solid Midwestern roots.
These characteristics read like a strong candidate for
ISA Horsemen’s Representative – and the good news is
that Joe begins his responsibilities for that position on
March 11, 2016.
“We are very pleased to have Joe working for the ISA
and for all the horsemen racing in Indiana. I have
known Joe for 40 plus years and I know he will do a
great job. We look forward to working with him,” commented ISA President Jack Kieninger.
Joe explained why he felt compelled to apply.
“I have been involved on the backstretch most all of
my life. I have a sense of comfortability among horsemen and I have a grassroots connection to Indiana in
particular. I realize how hard the trainers, drivers, and
caretakers work and how important it is to really hear
their concerns. I think fairness is key. Whether a person
has one horse or a stable of 40 head, I look forward to
the process of problem resolution with the support of the
ISA board.”
Joe continued, “I really enjoyed my work at Indiana
Downs (now Indiana Grand) as paddock judge and
horsemen’s liaison and more recently at Pompano where
I expanded my skills by working in the race office. I get
very excited thinking about new ideas to market racing
and improve certain aspects of horsemen’s struggles.
There is no better place than where I call ‘home’ to
make a difference.”
Before Joe’s full immersion into harness racing, he studied
photography while attending the Art Institute of Chicago.
His first job in the industry began in 1972 when he was
hired by Ralph Wilfong as trainer of the Trotter Range
30-horse stable. He gained invaluable experience with
young horses as well as
working with people.
In 1979, Joe literally
moved “around the
corner” to assume the
role of farm manager
and trainer for Larimohr Farm in Carmel.
His next career move
took Joe to the East
Coast where he served
as private trainer
for Young Meadows
Farm in Massachusetts
for seven years. He

custom home building
business. Once Indiana
Downs received an operating license from IHRC, Joe
became the track’s Opening Facility Manager as well as
serving as Paddock Judge.
Joe will bring much enthusiasm when the track opens
this spring.
“The future looks very bright,” said Joe. “The racing
program is solid and Indiana horses are showing they
are competitive on the national level. Add to the mix
that Hoosier Park will be hosting the Breeders Crown in
2017. I couldn’t be happier to begin my new duties.”

Wolff Returns to Hoosier Park
as New Track Superintendent
By: Emily Gaskin
When Hoosier Park Racing & Casino welcomes the
23rd season of live harness racing back to the Anderson
oval on April 1, 2016 they will be unveiling a number of
changes and enhancements made throughout the property. Among those changes, Gary Wolff was recently
named to the position of Track Superintendent for the
2016 live racing season.
It will be a bit of a homecoming when the veteran trackman returns to Hoosier Park as Wolff previously held the
same position in 2008 at Hoosier Park before relocating
to New Jersey to become the track superintendent at
the Meadowlands Racetrack where he most recently
worked. He also previously served as a track consultant for Indiana Grand Racecourse (formerly Indiana
Downs) when they held harness racing.
Wolff brings more than 40 years of experience in the
horse racing industry to his new post, covering all phases
of track maintenance on racetracks across the country. He began his career at Buffalo Raceway, where he
worked from 1974 until 1992, concluding that time as
track superintendent. He then moved to Garden State
Park where he held the track superintendent position for
seven years before relocating to Freehold Raceway. He
has headed the track maintenance crew at the Meadowlands since 2008.
“Hoosier Park could not be more pleased with the
announcement of Gary Wolff as our new Track Super-
intendent,” Hoosier Park’s Vice President and General
Manager of Racing, Rick Moore noted. “Gary is widely
respected throughout the industry and shares Hoosier
Park’s commitment to providing the safest racing surface
possible for our horsemen and equine athletes.”
“As we begin preparations to host the 2017 Breeders
Crown at Hoosier Park, the addition of Gary to our
team could not be better timed,” Moore continued.
“Gary is as good as it gets in this business.”
Wolff will also be instrumental in the 15th Annual
Track Superintendent’s Field Day that is scheduled to
come to Indiana June 12 – 15. Both Indiana Grand and
Hoosier Park will be utilized during the event that draws
track superintendents from all around the world. Wolff
will join Indiana Grand’s Track Superintendent Roy
Smith as host of the event.
Wolff and his crew will be busy preparing the racing
surface for Hoosier Park’s live harness racing season that
is set to begin on Friday, April 1. Live racing at Hoosier
Park Racing & Casino will follow a Friday, Saturday
schedule the opening week, a Thursday, Friday, Saturday schedule the second week and then resume a
Tuesday through Saturday schedule throughout the remainder of the meet. With a new, daily post time of 5:45
p.m. each night, the live racing season will be conducted
through November 12, 2016.

2015 Horse of the Year and Indiana sired
son of Mr. Wiggles, was selected for the
United States Harness Writers Association
Caretaker of the Year award. Taylor, who is
a former football player for Delaware State
University and is known as “Big Mike”
around the George Teague Stable, will be
presented with the award during the USHWA annual Dan Patch Awards banquet
March 6 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla.
George Teague Jr. nominated Taylor for the
honor. He noted that “Big Mike’s” size was
crucial in handling Wiggle It Jiggleit, who
lived up to his name in the winner’s circle.
The Mozzi Hanover first foal did not like
standing still for photos and Taylor was able
to contain him to prevent injury to those
gathered for the win celebrations.
The Teague Stable was recognized by the Senate and House of Representatives in the
State of Delaware Tuesday, Jan. 26 for the accomplishments of Wiggle It Jiggleit, 2015
Horse of the Year. Pictured left to right is Senator Gary Simpson, Mike Taylor, caretaker,

Taylor has been with the Teague Stable for
more than 10 years. The 32 year old accompanied Wiggle It Jiggleit to the winner’s
circle 22 times in 2015. Three of those wins
were recorded at Hoosier Park.

CHAMPIONS
In 2015, Freaky Feet Pete and Wiggle It Jiggleit met three
times on the racetrack, all starts at Hoosier Park. Wiggle It Jiggleit won the first battle in May in the $75,000
Indiana Sires Stakes Final while Freaky Feet Pete was
victorious the other two times, defeating Wiggle It Jiggleit
two times in October, first in the $220,000 Indiana Sires
Stakes Super Final and then again in the $285,500 Monument Circle. In 43 starts between them, they raked in
39 wins and only one finish worse than second.
Freaky Feet Pete won by 84 ¾ combined lengths while
Wiggle It Jiggleit won by a combined 86 lengths. Both
horses were piloted by drivers under 30 years of age.
The great Niatross also has some similarities to the
two Indiana stars. During each of their three-year-old
seasons, they had a combined starts tally of 69 races.
The only time anyone was within a length and a quarter
of any of these three sophomores was in the 2015 Little
Brown Jug when Wiggle It Jiggleit was a nose winner
over Lost For Words. The other 68 starts, no horse was
within a length and a quarter of this terrific trio.

Back in TRAINING
After a little time away from the track, Wiggle It Jiggleit
is back in training. According to Owner George Teague
Jr., the Mr. Wiggles gelding got pasture time after his last
race at Dover Downs Nov. 30, 2015 but returned to the
barn in January to resume his training regime.
“Actually, he (Wiggle It Jiggleit) looks great,” said
Teague Jr. “Like a lot of horses, they gain weight when
they get some down time so he’s probably gained 100
pounds, but he feels like he should feel. He could not be
any better.”

The
Winter months generally
bring on some rest and
relaxation for harness
racing champions and
Freaky Feet Pete fits
into that category. Now
four-years-old, “Pete”
enjoyed six weeks of
down time following his
last race of 2015 in the American National at Balmoral
Park. But the New Year signaled it was time to get back
to work, and the Rockin Image horse is back in the barn
preparing for the upcoming season at Hoosier Park.
Sweet Feet
of
Pete
“We brought him (Freaky Feet Pete) in the first of January and he started jogging,” said Larry Rheinheimer,
trainer of Indiana’s Pacer of the Year. “He looks good
and feels good. He has filled out a little bit. We turned
him for the first time the day of the ISA Banquet. He
will probably be ready to race the last part of May.”
A special video recapped the tremendous season of several champions during the ISA banquet held Saturday,
Feb. 6. All attention was turned to the jumbo screens
at the Indiana Roof Ballroom as Freaky Feet Pete and
Trace Tetrick made their gallant stretch drive move en
route to the Breeders’ Crown win, and the room erupted
in applause as the duo crossed under the wire. Goosebumps were plentiful.
Many are anticipating the matchup once again of
Freaky Feet Pete and Wiggle It Jiggleit in the Indiana
Sires Stakes. Let the games begin.

Bates Headed to Wabash
By Tara Ellen Taylor
Brandon Bates is a fierce competitor on the racetrack
and that toughness transferred to his son Hunter. Brandon is also a compassionate and caring guy and that too
is evident in his son.
Hunter Bates will soon graduate from Adams Central
High School located in Monroe, IN with a 4.087 GPA
(ranked 7th in his
class) and a fantastic
athletic career playing football, baseball
and as a wrestler.

“I chose Wabash
because I want to be
a trauma surgeon and
they have a great pre-med program,” said Hunter.
“Also, the football program is getting better as they
were undefeated in the regular season this year. Lastly,
I love the coaching staff too. It’s just a good fit all the
way around.”
Hunter has always enjoyed working around the barn
and horses with his dad. As a young person, he also
tagged along with his mother, Alicia, who is an emergency room nurse practitioner, and had the opportunity
to job shadow a trauma surgeon both of which sparked
his interest in medicine.
Hunter’s football accomplishments include two-time First
Team All Conference; two-time Team Offensive Most
Valuable Player; All Northeast Indiana Honorable Mention; IFCA 1A Junior All-State First Team Defensive
Back; All Northeast Indiana First Team Defensive Back;
IFCA 1A Senior All-State Running Back; WANE TV
“Fab 15”; North Region 3 All Star; All Time Single Season Rushing Leader; school record longest touchdown
run (96 yards); 5th all-time career rushing yards (3098).
Hunter is also a standout wrestler and was named to
the 1st Team Academic All State for wrestling. At press
time, Hunter was headed to the 2016 IHSAA State
Wrestling Finals in the 152 pound weight category at
Bankers Life Fieldhouse. He went into the State Finals
with a record of 41-6. One win at the state level would
tie the school record for most wins in a wrestling season
(42) and make him a top eight Indiana state finalist.

Passing Lane adds

When Hoosier Park opens its 23rd season of Standardbred racing April 1, 2016, racing fans will have a new

2015 ISA Awards Banquet
“One of the things that prompted me to take this position was that all the stakeholders want this industry to
be successful and everyone wants to collaborate,” said
Smith. “I look forward to this opportunity to work in
horse racing.”
Robert “Hollywood” Heyden, longtime television host
and statistician extraordinaire at The Meadowlands,
served as the evening’s host a crowd of more than 400
people. Two videos were shown, the first being a highlight reel of the top performers of 2015 that was capped
off with Freaky Feet Pete’s charge to the finish in the
Breeders’ Crown win. Dean Gillette, the talent behind
the camera at almost all major events, was the producer
behind the reel that left the room inspired.
A second video was played prior to the start of the
awards segment of the program featuring a look at
the economic impact of harness racing on the state of
Indiana. Three families, the Tetricks, the Eashs and the
Wilfongs were featured as they told their stories about
racing over the years and what the industry means to
them. In the end, the video was supported by statistics
from Purdue University noting more than $1 billion
annually is directly linked to all 92 counties in the state
of Indiana through harness racing.
Introductions were provided for several special guests,
including staff of the Indiana Horse Racing Commission (IHRC), Hoosier Park Racing & Casino, Indiana
Standardbred Association (ISA) Directors, Indiana
Standardbred Advisory Committee, Harness Horse
Youth Foundation, Quarter Horse Racing Association
of Indiana, Indiana Thoroughbred Owners & Breeders
Association, Standardbred Breed Development, Indiana Standardbred Hall of Fame, Centaur Gaming and
several legislators that were in attendance. A special
thank you was also extended to all volunteers for ISA,
who assist throughout the year with numerous projects.
Mike Smith, recently named executive director of the
IHRC, provided a few words to the crowd about his new
position at the helm of the IHRC.
Jack Kieninger, president of the ISA Board, kicked off a
special award for the evening in honor of Brian Elmore,
vice president of racing for Centaur Gaming. Elmore
recently announced his retirement.
“I have worked with a lot of fine people at Centaur that
have our best interest at heart,” said Kieninger. “No
person helps the horsemen more than Brian Elmore,
and we want to thank him for everything he has done
for racing.”
(from left to right) Brian Elmore is honored by Jim Brown,
President and COO of Centaur Gaming, Rod Ratcliff, Chairman
and CEO of Centaur Gaming, Elmore, ISA President Jack
Kieninger, and Hoosier Park Vice President and General
Manager of Racing Rick Moore.
Elmore was also praised by Centaur Gaming’s Chairman and CEO Rod Ratcliff along with Jim Brown,
president and COO of Centaur Gaming, and Rick
Moore, vice president and general manager of racing at
Hoosier Park.

Brown provided a brief look at the year ahead at Hoosier
Park. A new passing lane has been added and grading
work has been done on both turns. A new Mexican
restaurant, Caballo Loco, will open. He also noted acts
that are coming to the Summer Concert Series in 2016,
including “The Steve Miller Band,” “ZZ Top,” “Kenny
Rogers,” and “Chicago.”
“We will run the races right up until the time of the concert to expose racing to new people visiting our venue,”
added Brown. “In addition, we will offer a free concert
the night after the Dan Patch (Friday, Aug. 12) on Saturday, Aug. 13 featuring the band ‘Asleep at the Wheel’.”
Moore also pointed out several new additions beginning
in 2016.
“We are excited to have all high definition televisions and
cameras beginning this year,” said Moore. “We are working on a new broadcast set and we have three new water

Three inducted into Hall of Fame
By Julie Rideout
To many young Hoosier horsemen
it may seem like harness racing
began in Indiana in 1994 with the
opening of Hoosier Park. Thanks
to the Indiana Hall of Fame
committee we are all reminded
of the long and storied history of
Standardbred racing in the state of
Indiana. 2016 inductees Ken Barlow, Virgnes Lady Plaid and her
breeders Walter and Edna Virgne
are proof that great horsemen and
champion horses have been produced here for decades.

Indiana Standardbred Magazine
In his 28-year career as a trainer
and driver, Mr. Barlow posted an
overall UDRS driving percentage
of .262. In 1964 he peaked with a
.423 average in 174 starts.
Shelbyville, IN native Ken Barlow earned two Indiana
Driver of the Year honors in 1964 and 1965 and was the
regular reinsman behind world record holder Virgne’s
Lady Plaid. Photo provided

Equally impressive are the 1966
Indiana Horse of the Year statistics
garnered by Virgnes Lady Plaid.
Having won 13 of 14 stake races, 21
of 30 starts that year and 93 times
third or better in 134 lifetime starts,
Virgnes Lady Plaid and Barlow
were a force to be reckoned with.
The most compelling bit of Mr.
Barlow’s story is that he gave up
2015 ISA Awards Banquet
a secure job
with the United
States Postal
Service to pursue his dream of
racing harness
Former Hoosier Horse of the Year Virgne’s Lady horses, despite

Sharlene, had

a young family
to support. That decision panned out in a multitude of
ways, not least of which were the wonderful memories
and lifelong satisfaction that came from sharing his passion for racing horses with his family.
Their happiness was still evident on Saturday, Feb. 6 at
the ISA Banquet where Mr. Barlow along with his wife
and numerous family members, including their four
daughters, graciously accepted the trophy from the Hall
of Fame committee. Banquet attendees were entertained
with a short but telling
story of the wonderful times had by the
Barlow family on the
Indiana fair circuit.

Purses for races will be divided 50-25-12-8-5 percent.
Each event is to be raced one (1) heat at one (1) mile each.
Eliminations will only be raced in the event more than ten (10) horses enter to race.
The eliminations will be raced in divisions if more than twelve (12) horses enter to race. If more than twelve (12)
but twenty-four (24) or fewer horses are declared to start, two (2) divisions of eliminations will be held.
Eliminations, if necessary, will be held at least one week prior to the final. All horses entered into the elimination
will be eligible to enter for the final. Of those that have entered to race in the Final, the top ten (10) finishers in the
official order of finish in the elimination races will be selected as starters. When two (2) or more horses are tied for
tenth (10th) place, horses from those tied will be drawn by lot to fill the race.
Please note that all horses eligible for the final must enter for the final according to the draw schedule at the Host
track. Having entered in the elimination race(s) does not automatically enter the horse for the final.
All finals will be raced, regardless of the number of horses entered.
If after scratch time, a horse drawn into race at an Indiana Pari-mutuel track participates in any other race, that horse
shall be scratched. Indiana Horse Racing Commission; 71 IAC 7-1-36 (d)
Post positions for all races, including the final, will be determined by an open draw.
In addition, two (2) horses will be selected from those in the eliminations that entered for the final but were not
selected for the final to be designated “Also Eligible” (“AE”) for each final. These “Also Eligibles” will replace any
other horse(s) scratched prior to scratch time from the final for any reason. The preference to determine which is the
first (1st) “Also Eligible” shall be determined by taking the horse that placed highest in the official order of finish
of all elimination divisions, but was not selected for the final; in the event horses are equal in the finish
position, final preference will be drawn by lot. The other horse will be the second (2nd) “Also Eligible” (“AE2”). All
drug testing samples, taken from horses competing in the Indiana Sires Stakes, may be frozen for future testing.
The purse for the elimination will be paid from the Host Track purse account. Eliminations, if raced, will race for
the advertised purse regardless of the number of divisions. If there are ten (10) or fewer horses entered to race in
the elimination, the elimination will not be raced and all horses will be eligible to enter to race in the final. In the
event the elimination is not raced, the host track will add the purse money allocated for the elimination to the final.
Purses for eliminations with eleven (11) or more starters will be increased by twenty percent (20%). (To be paid by
the Standardbred Breed Development Fund). In eliminations with a field of eleven (11) or more starters, the sixth
(6th) place finisher will receive three percent (3%) and the seventh (7th) place finisher will receive two percent (2%)
of the purse. (To be paid by the Standardbred Breed Development Fund).

Elmore announces retirement
from Centaur Gaming
Brian Elmore, longtime team member of Centaur
Gaming, announced his retirement from horse racing in
early 2016. A native of Sullivan, Ind., Elmore’s career has
spanned more than 40 years in the industry. He spent the
past two decades working for Centaur Gaming in several
capacities, most recently serving as vice president of racing for Centaur Gaming’s two racetracks, Indiana Grand
Racing & Casino and Hoosier Park Racing & Casino.
“Throughout my more than 40 years in the racing industry, I’ve had the opportunity to work at nearly every
level and for multiple operators, and I can truly say that
my years with Centaur Gaming have been my best and
most rewarding,” said Elmore. “To be a part of a company that is committed to the advancement of horse racing is something that is rare in our industry. I am proud
to have had the opportunity to serve in this capacity and
to work with the Indiana Horse Racing Commission,
multiple Indiana horsemen’s associations, and Centaur’s
more than 2,000 dedicated team members who all share
my same passion for the sport.”
Elmore was instrumental in the opening of Hoosier Park
Racing & Casino, Indiana’s first racetrack casino, as well
as positioning both Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand as
award-winning horse racing destinations.
Centaur Gaming chairman and CEO Rod Ratcliff
lauded Elmore’s career with Centaur Gaming, “Indiana’s horse racing industry has grown significantly
over the last two decades, and Brian has been there the
entire time working to provide our guests and horsemen
with a superior racing experience while helping build
a foundation for the success we see today. On behalf of
the entire Centaur Gaming team, we wish him the best
in retirement.”
Prior to joining Centaur Gaming, Elmore served as vice
president and general manager of Ellis Park in Henderson, Kentucky and Bandera Downs in Bandera, Texas.
Elmore also served as a member of the Thoroughbred
Racing Association.
“Hoosier Park and Indiana Grand have grown into nationally-recognized, premier racing facilities and Brian’s
hard work and dedication
has significantly contributed to that effort,” said Jim
Brown, Centaur Gaming’s
president and COO. “We are
grateful for Brian’s leadership
and passion for Indiana’s
horse racing industry and his
exceptional commitment to
its advancement.”

dent and general manager of
racing as well as Jon Schuster, Indiana Grand Racing & Casino’s vice president and
general manager of racing, both accomplished racing
executives, will continue in their roles leading the dayto-day racing operations for both properties.
Elmore’s retirement went into effect in late February, just
days after he was honored with the Eddie Arcaro Award
from the Jockey’s Guild. The award was part of a special
ceremony during the annual Jockey’s Guild Assembly
Awards Banquet held at Gulfstream Park in Florida.
It honors an individual who has displayed exceptional commitment to the jockeys and the Jockey’s Guild.
Elmore fulfilled that statement in a big way. He was the
lead on the second annual Jockeys & Jeans event held
at Indiana Grand in the Spring of 2015, an event that
raised more than $200,000 for the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund (PDJF). The sold-out event became
the largest fundraiser ever held for PDJF. Through Elmore’s leadership, numerous celebrities across the nation
stepped up to support the event with contributions, both

Four of the six horses on the Standardbred hitch previously raced at both Hoosier Park and Indiana Downs,
now known as Indiana Grand. Included in the lineup
are SD Poignant, Bona Fide Best, Southwind Maxwell,
and Laughter’s Legend.
SD Poignant, the son of His Mattjesty, raced through his
10 year old season, racking up 17 wins and earnings in
excess of $87,000. His best time was recorded as a fouryear-old in 1:52.3 and was matched as a five-year-old
for trainer Dan Perdue. Toward the end of his career, he
raced for trainer Brian McGalliard before being retired.
Bona Fide Best is the royally bred son of Pro Bono Best.
Now 13, he last raced in 2007 and has excelled in a
second career beyond the racetrack. His mother, Big
Towner mare Brandilu Hanover, produced nine winners
in under 1:56.0.

All horses making up Burrough’s Battery are used for
several purposes. Burrough’s Battery uses its Standardbreds in Civil War reenactments at Gettysburg and
many battle sites throughout the mid-south. Four of the
Standardbreds were true war horses, each having raced
over 100 times and/or earned over $100,000. Many carry their own battle scars. Captain Steve Cameron views
these old injuries as appropriate badges of valor.
True to history, the hitch is ridden, rather than driven,
and pulls artillery and ammunition in addition to participating in parades and processions.
“The horses did great during the ceremony,” said Gun
Crewman Harry Uffalussy. “From the beginning to the
end, I think they sensed this was a special event. Everyone was complimenting them, even the US Marine
Corp detachment from Arlington National Cemetery.”

monetary and through in-kind donations. Elmore also
had several regional basketball stars that agreed to attend the event, which was also a draw to sell tickets and
draw in more bidders for the silent and live auction items
which included an autographed saddle from Ty Murray,
world champion bull rider.
As news of his retirement was announced through the
racing community, many horsemen responded with well
wishes and hopes for a good retirement. Elmore was very
visible on the backstretch of both racetracks and took a
personal interest in improving racing for the participants.
For Elmore, retirement means he can spend more time
with his children and grandchildren, who are all located
in the Indianapolis and Evansville, Ind. area. He will no
doubt continue to be involved in some way with horse
racing, a true passion and hobby that is in his blood and
will always be part of his life.

From the second crop of Horse of the Year and Hambletonian champion Donato Hanover, Bluto
comes to Indiana for the 2015 breeding season. This trotter is royally bred, out of millionaire and
Breeders Crown champion Blur, a mare from the family of the great Muscles Yankee. He is also a
full-brother to World Champion two-year-old filly Bluff 2, 1:56.2; 3, 1:54 ($172,182).
Bluto showed his talent at two, winning a pair of Pennsylvania Sire Stakes contests at The
Meadows in gate-to-wire fashion, trotting over the five-eighths mile configuration in 1:57. He
won three of seven starts, including a victory in the Kindergarten Series, and pulled in more
than $130,000.
At three, Bluto picked up three wins racing in the Keystone State, taking his 1:52.4 mark at
Pocono Downs for Hall of Fame trainer Jimmy Takter. He also trotted second in the Old
Oaken Bucket and finished fourth in the Matron Final. With more than $300,000 in purses
earned primarily at age two and three, Bluto is one of Donato Hanover’s fastest sons.
Breeders looking for speed, a proven record of production at the top levels, and Grand
Circuit-calibur pedigree need look no further than Bluto. He is poised to become the
next big trotting sire in Indiana, with bloodlines that are tough to match.
