Tong-Len Charity
Tong-Len Charitable Trust’s vision is to support
displaced Indian communities in the Kangra valley in
northern India.
Jamyang Gyaltsen, a refugee Tibetan monk, observed
and interacted with young Indian children begging and
scavenging the local rubbish bins on a daily basis. In
witnessing such miserable conditions for the children
he was not able to shut his eyes and felt a
responsibility to find the solution to a different future
for the children.
Supporting people living in poverty in India, has
enabled Jamyang to give back to the Indian community,
a community that extended their welcome to the
Tibetan refugees.
The name Tong-Len comes
from the Tibetan words
meaning ‘give’ and ‘take’, the
idea being that through
compassion one shares in the
suffering and pain of others
whilst simultaneously giving
out love and kindness.

An Evening of Medusa
1. Elastic Heart
Our dancers are transformed into broken dolls; vacant and
disjointed. The choreography features both rigid and fluid
movement as the dolls attempt to bring themselves back to
life and escape their exasperating fate as inanimate objects.

Just taught our @AkramKhanLive routine to a 6 Standard
class in India, that's year 8. They love it! #whoarewemdc

2. Kaash
The dance is inspired by Kaash a Contemporary/Kathak
work by British/Bangladeshi choreographer Akram Khan.
As part of the British Council Connecting Classrooms
Project, Miss Cimadoro taught the routine to students at the
GAV Public School in India. The performance attracted the
attention of MBE Akram Khan himself on Twitter.
3. Chandelier
A lyrical number using modern dance technique with
acrobatic moments and acts of balance to showcase our
dancer's skills.
@medusadanceco
4. The Woods
As one of Medusa’s spin off routines, this distressing piece
explores the story of a young girl entering a forest owned
by a flock of bird-like harpies. Inspired by Alfred
Hitchcock’s The Birds, The Woods shows how a person
can be possessed yet can also be the possessive…
(Dancers: Lucy Falkingham, Meg Flaherty, Elisha Daggett, Jayde
Bailey, Alex Breakwell, Jade Harrison)
5. Jai Ho
This dance combines traditional Bollywood with
commercial dance and is performed to Jai Ho (You are my
Destiny) from the film Slum Dog Millionaire.
@medusadanceco
6. ENTER THE KINGDOM
ENTER THE KINGDOM features striking and dramatic
imagery. The choreography is dark, rebellious and almost
tribal.
7. He Lives in You (Reprise from the Lion
King)
A mix of African and contemporary, exploring life after
death and set to the music performed by Rafiki to summon
Mufasa's spirit.
@medusadanceco
8.Seven Deadly Sins
Medusa’s own interpretation of the Seven Deadly Sins
shows a range of characters/stereotypes who are effected
by each sin. This unique routine is performed to Rihanna’s
Disturbia, emphasising the impact that each sin has on its
effected person and how it takes over their lives, leading
them down a route of false consciousness and
disillusionment.
Dancers: Elisha Daggett (Medusa - Envy), Megan Moore
(Corpse - Sloth), Jade Harrison (A Desperate Housewife Lust), Lucy Falkingham (Lizzy Borden - Wrath), Jayde
Bailey (A Hood Rat -Greed), Alex Breakwell (Pageant
Queen -Pride), Meg Flaherty (Eve - Gluttony)

9.Oh Rosie!
In this emotional tribute to slavery, this piece captures the
struggle for survival and the fight for freedom faced by the
slaves of 1940’s America. Including 3 musical numbers;
Jesus Walks, Rosie and Oh Freedom, this number exerts a
range of emotions through the dancers interpretative
skills, using body language and facial expressions.
10. Proud Mary
A Show Dance including fast paced, high energy Jazz
movements including turns, jumps and the famous train
line ending. Our most exciting number!
@medusadanceco
Encore: Bhangra!
Our Punjabi Bhangra routine was created to welcome our
Indian partnership visitors from the GAV Public School in
Kangra, India.
