Anderson: "Why Dentists Fail: Secrets of Leading a Top Practice." As the leader goes, so goes the practice. Discover: The little-known epidemic dentists fight, which creates turnover, disharmony and lower case acceptance, and what you can do about it now! Why a "morning huddle" may be killing your practice success. Register Now! Why your greatest practice success may not be in your practice at all, and where to look for it. The most important question you can ask every day that will move your team forward. Joseph D. Maggio, DDS, FACD, FICD: "Case Selection in Endodontics: First Step to Success." Endodontics is one of the most dynamic aspects in all of dentistry. New technologies, techniques and materials are emerging more rapidly than ever. However, before you can utilize the advances, diagnosis and case selection are critical to the ultimate success of the treatment. Michael C. DiTolla, DDS FAGD: "A New Approach to Preparation." If you observe the preps and impressions that come into a dental laboratory over the course of just one month, you will understand why over half of our time is spent redoing existing crowns and bridges that have failed. A novel preparation technique will be presented to solve those issues. New Dentists' Lunch and Learn Featuring Dr. Gordon J. Christensen: "Avoid Costly Mistakes: Techniques and Products the Top Dentists of Today Can't Live Without." Hygienists' Lunch and Learn Featuring Dr. Bryan Judd: "Thriving in a Down Economy, Team Advancement." Define the bottom line of dentistry to discover how hygienists contribute to a team's success in our current economy. Determine how to utilize technology, effective communication and proven clinical skills to advance your practice. From digital photography, oral cancer screening, and lasers to case presentation and acceptance, learn a variety of techniques that will empower you and your team. Steven J. Anderson: "The Six Natural Laws of Treatment Acceptance." There are natural laws of human behavior. Obey the laws of treatment acceptance and you will naturally reap huge practice rewards. Violate them at your own expense. In this idea-packed, action-oriented session with skills you can use today, you'll discover: How to convert every new patient into a comprehensive exam patient, even when they "just want a cleaning." How to motiate your patients to accept more comprehensive care. The sure-fire way to design a treatment plan that will guarantee a "Yes!" The zero-cost, easy-to-implement system for increasing new patients by 50% or more immediately. The secret to stop cancellations, no-shows, and late shows. How to turn fee objections into the biggest opportunity for acceptance. Joseph D. Maggio, DDS, FACD, FICD: "Preparation and Irrigation: Don't be a Dinosaur." http://cedev.byu.edu/cw/dentist/presentations.php[9/12/2013 1:59:44 PM] Academy of LDS Dentists Root canal shaping was first done with hand files, then nickel titanium rotary files, followed by reciprocating files and now a combination of rotary when you and want it and reciprocation when you need it. Learn how the new TF Adaptive file will help improve your canal shaping with maximum saftey. New irrigating solutions will also be discussed. Michael C. DiTolla, DDS, FAGD: "The Monolithic Revolution." In 2007 and 2009, two new high-strength`, cementable, all-ceramic crowns were introduced that have become the dominant class of restoration at the expense of the PFM. This course looks at these two materials and compares their indications, limitations, fracture and placement techniques. Saturday, August 17th Christopher A. Hooper, DDS: "Pearls for Esthetic Excellence." Participants will be able to integrate many of the topics and principles into their practices immediately. This course will not only teach the mechanics of predictable esthetics, it will also give participants the confidence to present complex treatment plans to patients and get "yes" answers. Dr. Hooper will teach smile design, diastema closure, anterior restoration selection, from preparation to cementation; how to choose the perfect shade; preparation review and bur selection; veneers vs full coverage; retraction: cord, electrosurgery, Expasyl, Access Edge, 3M; impressioning: Impregum vs PVS; Captek, Empress, Procera, LAVA, Emax, Bruxzir; cementation vs. bonding; direct composities: Filtek Supreme Ultra; mutually protected occlusion; posterior ceramic and resin inlays and onlays. Frank Higginbottom, DDS: "Digital Implant Dentistry: New Technology for Teeth and Implants." Dentists today have the option of incorporating digital technology to better treat our patients. We have so much more information for diagnosis and treatment planning. Learn cone beam CT technology, digital implant planning, local digital guide fabrication, guided surgery, digital impressions, CAD/CAM restorations, and incorporation of soft tissue lasers. Jonathan A. Parker, DDS: "Managing Snoring and Sleep Apnea." Over the past decade, the connection between oral health and systemic health has been confirmed. This presentation will highlight the health risks of sleep apnea and the important role dentists can play in identifying and treating these sleep disorders. Jonathan A. Parker, DDS: "Successful Treatment of Snoring and OSA." Snoring and obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) can have a significant effect on relationships and a patient's overall health. This presentation will give you the practical clinical information to accurately evaluate and effectively treat your patients with oral appliance therapy. Spouse Program Pricing: Early-Bird registration through Aug. 9....................$149 Full-Price registration Aug. 10-16..........................$199 Frequently Asked Questions Why is the spouse program at the Wilkinson Center this year? Spouse of dental student or recent graduate(1-2 years): Early-Bird registration through Aug. 9....................$59 Because The Academy is growing, they needed more space in the Conference Center, which means that the Spouse Program had to be moved to another building, most preferably, the Wilkinson Center. Full-Price registration Aug. 10-16.........................$109 The dentists' main reason for attending is to obtain their yearly accreditation. For most dentists, they need to attend sessions all day to meet their requirements. If your spouse only needs a few credits, they are more than welcome to attend a session with you, just remember that you'll be in a different building this year. Why can't we have a session with our dentist? Why are we starting later this year (starting at 8:30 a.m. instead of 8:00 a.m.)? The spouse program is starting a half hour later than the dentist and youth programs in order to allow you enough time to get the rest of your family checked in and then make your way to the Wilkinson Center. Why are we ending early on Saturday (ending at 3:30 p.m. instead of 5:00 p.m.)? Traditionally, in the past, we have taken a 1½ hour break in the middle of the day on Saturday to allow for shopping, campus tours, etc. As per some feedback we received, we decided to move this block of time to the end of the day and end early instead. Still allowing some people time to shop at the BYU Bookstore and allowing others time to do things off campus before their dentist or children are done. Please note that only the Spouse Program is ending at 3:30 p.m. Why do we hold spouse elections every year? In 2011, the duration of the Spouse Program committee positions changed from 2 years to 1 year in each position; which means that there will be a new president each year, also meaning that each year a new vice president along with a new historian will need to be elected. Why don't you have a nursery program, for children ages 1-5? There has not been enough interest regarding a program for children of these ages. Should the need be expressed by enough people, a nursery program would be considered. In the meantime, using the babysitting services of friends or family in the Provo area is suggested. Can we bring babies to the conference? Yes, a mother's lounge is provided. There is a sound feed into this room, to make sure you don't miss out on anything!
