ABOUT THE
THE AKAROA INTERNATIONAL OBOE
SUMMER SCHOOL
4 – 9 January 2015
The Akaroa (2015) International Oboe Summer School will be held from 4 - 9 January 2015. It will feature six outstanding
oboists: Gordon Hunt has for many years been the pre-eminent oboist in the United Kingdom; David Walter is Professor of Oboe
at the Paris Conservatoire and an international oboe soloist and Diana Doherty (Australia) are the featured artists. Additionally,
Robert Orr who has been Principal Oboe with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra for a number of years, Alexandre Oguey
(Cor Anglais Sydney Symphony) and Eve Newsome (Professor of Woodwind at the Queensland Conservatorium) will also be
attending as our associate artists. The Summer School will be based in Akaroa, a beautiful quiet port and tourist destination,
one hour’s drive south of Christchurch. Akaroa was originally a French settlement in the earliest days of European settlement in
New Zealand and it still strongly retains its French identity in its street names and restaurant culture.
