We have an exciting year ahead of us. We'll continue to host charity fundraisers and have lots of fun. I've already challenged the V Club to another chili cook-off at the VFW. Our club has participated in the Chilly Chili contest at the VFW every year. Last year I challenged the V Club to a private cook-off during the Chilly Chili contest. We lost the challenge, but beat them in the overall, ranking us 9th place & them 14th place. This year I plan to beat them in both contests. I hope y'all can attend on February 13th. We always need judges to try out the tasty bbq & chili. Another event to look forward to in February is the Sweetheart Rally. In March, car show season typically kicks off. I expect we'll join HOTCC again with the cruise to the Florence Winery. That is always a favorite of mine. In April, we have 3 major events with the Space City Corvettes & Crawfish, Perry Hampton Memorial Picnic, and the Boerne Open Car show. I have some very coveted awards from Corvettes & Crawfish, and Boerne with my 2005 Daytona Sunset Orange Z51 Coupe. I'm hoping to re-up those awards with my new 2016 Daytona Sunrise Z06 Convertible. I would love to have many of you make these trips with me to NASA & Boerne. Another event my focus is on this year is the Corvettes Cruisin’ Galveston on June 3-5. I've reached out to Corvette World to offer our support. Please stay tuned on how these events develop. I'll be working with our Activities Director, Kelley, to get you all the dates of these major yearly events so you can plan your year accordingly. Most of the dates will be set over the next few weeks. A couple of other dates to save are the Vettes & Jets on September 9-11 and Operation American Muscle Car Show on October 1st. I want to thank everyone who helped last month with the bike build, toy drive, and Christmas Party at the VFW. I had a great time and hope many of you did also. A special thanks goes out to Denis and Janice Brooker for hosting the New Year’s Eve Party. They opened up their beautiful home to us and threw an amazing bash! I know it was very much appreciated by myself and all of the other members who attended. I'm looking forward to more parties in 2016! President ~ Lance Spracklen 2015 has gone by in a flash! What are your resolutions for the New Year? 2015 was a great year for LCC. We raised a lot of money for the Wounded Warrior project and helped out several other organizations. I am proud to be a member of the LCC and proud to call you all my friends. Thanks to Denis and Janice Brooker we were able to ring in the new in high style. The Brookers graciously opened their homes to their friends and club. I had an absolute blast, thanks again for inviting us. 2015 was a big year and I am hoping to make 2016 even bigger! More charity events and more outings that involve the club. Like always if you have any questions or suggestions on what the club can do in the New Year please reach out. I am always happy to hear from our members. Happy New Years! Vice-President ~ Tammy Spracklen As everyone knows by now, 2015 has been a very sorrowful year with the passing of many members. One in particular recently was Jim Brennan. Jim was a great guy for those who knew him on a personal level. He was a caring and yet stubborn individual. Jim would offer his assistance with any project that needed to be attended if he couldn't do it he would pass in to Diane...ha! They both worked as a team, balancing each other as he was Diane's rock. I don't know if all the members knew that he was from California, an Educator of Science, Basketball Coach, Youth Correctional Teacher, Veteran, Father of two, as well as a handful of grandchildren. They decided to retire in Austin and joined the Longhorn Corvette Club. Jim loved his C5 Vette and won many trophies in car shows. He loved caravans with other cars and though in no hurry, he would get himself there. He was a great guy all around. Jim will be missed and remembered as our other members who passed this year. And yet another was good guy was given a great eternal life. RIP Jim! ~ Lucy Medrano Howdy Herd, Governor’s Message Happy New Year! I’m looking forward to what 2016 will bring the club and spending time with each of you. HELP NEEDED! Amy is going to enter our club in the newsletter contest and we need everyone’s help to improve our chances of winning. How you can help is by writing and submitting some articles to Amy for publishing in the BULLetin. Here are the categories that we are judged on, and any articles in any of the categories would be helpful. Local News: News of your Club Technical News: Repair, Replacement, Restoration, Technical Information Charity News: Charity news and Contributions for Club, Region or National NCCC News: Items concerning National Council (NCCC) Regional News: Your Region news or other Regional news Composition: Structure and content and readability of your magazine We need to submit 3 issues between now and June 1st for judging and Amy will be selecting the issues and articles. Here is 2016 National Convention link, http://www.corvettesnccc.org/Convention2016.html. Registration will open on the 1st of February and there is a tentative schedule posted on the website. The event runs from Sunday, July 17th to Friday, July 22nd. I tentatively plan to attend the entire event. This will be my first NCCC convention and I’m looking forward to the experience. The annual Sweetheart rally is scheduled for Sunday, 14 February. Loren and I are in the early planning stages and would welcome suggestions. Please talk with me at the meeting or send me an e-mail with any suggestions you may have. [email protected]. March 19 will be the Southwest region annual awards banquet in Fort Worth. If you are interested in going please let me know. Last year was a lot of fun, with a live comedian. If you are interested in attending some of the region events this year, here is a link to the schedule, http://www.ncccswregion.org/schedule.html. Have fun and keep the rubber side down, Mike Sears ~ Governor Activities!!! Many of you saw me at the Christmas party hobbling around. Thanks to everyone who helped out with set up and take down at the Christmas party. It means a lot to me. I'm hopefully on the road to recovery from the torn cartilage and ligament sprain in my knee--without surgery. My goal for 2016 is to be healed up in time to race my car in autocross and my body in triathlons. By the time the newsletter is out, we will have kicked off the year with our first cruise, the Underwear Cruise that was held on January 2. If you have gently used clothing that you are looking to donate, may I suggest you stop by the VFW 8787 at 500 VFW Rd. The Ladies Auxiliary, a few times a year, bring in homeless veterans and give them clothes. Did I say, "I want to autocross in 2016?" Well I do. And I need more information so I'm working on finalizing "Intro to Autocross" after Jan. 13. But with people on vacation and such, it is hard to wrap up loose ends. So stay tuned to your email, the LCC Facebook pages, and the LCC calendar. The LCC autocross experts will share their tips and tricks, what rules to know well, etc. And cross your fingers that we are given the green light for a mini-autocross at a big parking lot near us. Points Trail for 2016 After being in the club a year and seeing all the activities everyone likes to do and show their love of things Corvette, I have come up with a new Points Trail for this New Year. You earn points for anything you do in your Corvette that represents LCC. Cruises, car shows, show and shines, volunteering at our events, autocross, going to the NCCC national convention, and more. There will be events that will be selected as premium events (earn more points) starting in February. Also, when Lance handed out the MM awards (in memory of Manuel Medrano) to people that volunteered at almost every LCC event this year, we decided to keep that going as well, so if you volunteer throughout the year, you will be eligible for an MM award as well. You will need to earn 20 points between January and November. Each category is worth 1 point, unless you participate in a premium event (you’ll get more than 1 point). You get points by: 1. Racing 2. Driving events (Rides/Rallies/Parades/Cruises): 3. Car Shows/Corvette specific events (i.e., OAM, other LCC shows, Corvette Invasion, NCCC conventions, Vettes and Jets on the Lex) 4. Monthly meetings, socials, Perry Hampton and other club specific events 5. LCC Goodwill: Volunteer at NCCC auto cross or other NCCC events that aren't hosted by LCC, promote LCC events such as Operation American Muscle, give rides to children/veteran causes in your Corvettes, submitting stories to the newsletter, etc.) You get bonus points for: 1. Volunteering at LCC events (for example, you lead a cruise after the Leander Car Show) 2. Attending Premiere events: These are events chosen by the Activities Director beginning in February. 3. Bringing your Corvette: You will get extra points for bringing your Corvette to the business meeting, executive committee meeting, and/or the social. We understand if your car is not street legal or the weather you feel that you need to keep the Corvettes safe but we'd really like to see more cars at our events. Those that volunteer and we use your vehicle to haul the stuff for the event will get extra point too. Anyone who gets 20 or more points will be invited to an end of year Points Trail Party. Everyone is eligible to gain points in the trail. It will be extremely important to submit your activity EACH TIME you participate in an event…especially if it’s not an LCC event, since you might be the only one from the club there. To get a point(s): Email photos of you at the events (include your name and event) Make sure to sign in at any LCC events Post pictures (include your name and event) on the private Facebook group On a quarterly basis, a list of those that have earned points and bonuses will be posted in The BULLetin. Kelley may also send out the tracking spreadsheet or post it on the private Facebook group. If you are on Facebook and don't know about the private Facebook group email [email protected]. Any questions? Email Kelley at [email protected] Looking ahead to February Activities Save these LCC dates for February! More information to come: February 13: Chilly Chili February 14: Sweetheart Rally February 20: Ladies Cruise to Round Top: Pie is involved of course. Needed: Activity Leaders! Need Activity Leaders for monthly car shows We need activity leaders for Leander, Cars and Coffee, and Round Rock Car shows in 2016. You can select which shows you want and you don't have to do all of them. Main duties will be to take photos, have members sign the log, send logs/photos to me for Points Trail, pass out LCC business cards/fliers to other Corvette owners, and maybe lead a cruise after the event. You will get a bonus point for the Points Trail. Please let me know what months and shows you are interested in being an activity leader. Send an email to [email protected] or call/text me at 512-284-4754. Techno Corner Corvette Named a “Best Sounding New Car” by Road and Track Road and Track has posted their picks for the “10 Best Sounding New Cars for Under $100,000” and not surprisingly, the C7 Z06 made the cut. The gallery caption stated “The Chevrolet Corvette Z06 is an absolute monster. It makes 650 horsepower and 650 pound-feet of torque out of its 6.2-liter supercharged LT4, and in the right hands, it can run a sub-10.5second quarter mile. It sounds absolutely devilish.” Give it a listen and decide for yourself! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=udSolPpcHwE&feature=player_embedded Others making the list include the Alfa Romeo 4C; Dodge Challenge / Charger Hellcat; Fiat 500 Abarth; Ford Mustang Shelby 350 GT; Jaguar F-Type V6 S; Lexus RC F; Maserati Quattroporte S; Mercedes AMG C63 S; and Porsche Cayman GT4. Wanna hear all the rides? Check out the gallery on Road and Track. But we all know it’s the Corvette you want to hear. He wanted a car that he could use to drive all of the Texas backroads. So far, he’s been enjoying Sunday drives, mostly, but also weekday drives! He would like to talk with other members about Corvette stuff and join in on drives. He is retired and lives in Georgetown. He’s another motorcycle lover and has ridden for 50 years.
