INDEPENDENT Presbyterian Church MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE RUF MISSIONS CONFERENCE THE MISSION OF INDEPENDENT PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in Memphis, calling them into a devoted community of worshiping and maturing believers, and sending them out to be salt of the earth and light in the world, all to the glory of God. THE LORD’S DAY WORSHIP THE FIRST DAY OF MARCH, TWO THOUSAND AND FIFTEEN Eight-Thirty and Eleven O’clock “I was glad when they said to me,‘Let us go to the house of the Lord!”’ — Psalm 122:1 THE PRELUDE “How Deep the Father’s Love for Us” Townend/arr. Powell Lauren Conley, Hannah Hart, Sierra-Skye Olson and Mary Wright, Violins Griffin Browne, Cello Luke Folse, Clarinet Jennifer Velázquez, Piano THE CALL TO WORSHIP Psalm 36:7-10 The Minister: “How precious is Your steadfast love, O God! The children of mankind take refuge in the shadow of Your wings. The Congregation: They feast on the abundance of Your house, and You give them drink from the river of Your delights. The Minister: For with You is the fountain of life; in Your light do we see light. The Minister and Congregation: Oh, continue Your steadfast love to those who know You, and Your righteousness to the upright of heart!” The Reverend Richie Sessions Senior Pastor RUF Campus Minister, Vanderbilt University, beginning Summer 2015 -1- THE PROCESSIONAL HYMN “Come, Thou Fount of Every Blessing” No. 457 THE INVOCATION AND THE LORD’S PRAYER O ur Father, who art in heaven, Hallowed be Thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For Thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. THE GLORIA PATRI O Store Gud O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made; I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, Thy pow’r thro’out the universe displayed. Then sings my soul, my Saviour God, to Thee: how great Thou art, how great Thou art! ˜ Please sign and pass the Friendship Pad at this time. ™ THE TESTIMONY The Reverend Jason Sterling, 8:30 a.m. RUF Campus Minister, University of Mississippi The Reverend Brian Sorgenfrei, 11:00 a.m. RUF Campus Minister, Mississippi State University -2- THE CONFESSION OF SIN F ather in heaven, as we come to confess our sins this morning we are reminded of what King David said in Psalm 51, “Against You, and You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in Your sight.” This week, this day, we have sinned against You in numerous ways. Our hearts have delighted in the things of this world more than they have delighted in You. Our hands and feet have been committed to pursuing the pleasures of this world rather than service and love to our neighbor. Our eyes have been fixed upon our needs and wants rather than the needs and wants of others. Our minds have been preoccupied with strategies on how to build our own kingdoms rather than building Yours. Father, our sins are many and they are great, and so in this moment we cast our hearts, our hands, our feet, our eyes, our minds, all that we are, at the foot of the Cross, pleading for mercy, knowing that You are a good and gracious God who delights in showing steadfast love and mercy to those whom You love. Forgive us Father for it is You, and You only we have sinned against. Amen. The Reverend John Craft, RUF Campus Minister, Rhodes College, 8:30 a.m. The Reverend Johnathan Keenan, RUF Campus Minister, University of Memphis, 11:00 a.m. THE ASSURANCE OF PARDON “But He was pierced for our transgressions; He was crushed for our iniquities; upon Him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with His wounds we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned — every one — to His own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” — Isaiah 53:5-6 -3- THE HYMN OF ASSURANCE “Thy Mercy, My God” Words: John Stoker 1.
