INTRODUCING THE 2015 JUDGING PANEL CONFORMATION MR RUI OLIVEIRA (Portugal) Group 3 (Gundogs) (Less Cocker Spaniels) & GROUP SPECIALS Part Group 1 (Toys) (Italian Greyhounds, Miniature Pinschers & Pugs) Part Group 5 (Working Dogs) (Finnish Lapphunds & Shetland Sheepdogs) Part Group 6 (Utility) (Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boxers, Bullmastiffs & Dogue De Bordeaux) BEST EXHIBIT IN SHOW In the past, Melbourne Royal has hosted a number of excellent judges from Portugal, including Carla Molinari, Luis Pinto Texiera, Pedro Delarue and last year Luis Catalan. In 2015 we are delighted to welcome Rui Oliveira to the 2015 Royal Melbourne Show. He started his dog activity in 1975, showing his father’s Pointers. Since then he has become a consistent exhibitor, and a widely celebrated Pointer breeder under the Vale Carvoeiro prefix. Starting judging in 1983, Rui is now an FCI All Rounder. His judging has taken him to almost every country in Europe, together with Brazil, Argentina, Israel, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, China and the UK, where he is approved to award CCs in a number of breeds. Major judging assignments have included World Dog Shows in Brussels, Bratislava, Hernig, Paris, Budapest and Helsinki, together with many Euro Winner Shows. Rui is especially honored to have judged at a number of UK Championship Shows, the Hound Group at the World Show in Budapest, and to judge Pointers at Crufts in 2016. Whilst Rui loves his judging, he is still an active breeder, producing Pointer Champions at home in Portugal, and abroad. Rui is a member of the Judge’s Committee, and Chairman of the Standards Committee of the Portuguese Kennel Club. The RASV welcomes Rui on this, his first trip to Melbourne. MR WILLIAM RODRIGUEZ UMANA (Costa Rica) Part Group 1 (Toys) (Papillons) Group 5 (Working Dogs) (less Finnish Lapphunds, Shetland Sheepdogs) & GROUP SPECIALS Group 6 (Utility) (less Bernese Mountain Dogs, Boxers, Bullmastiffs & Dogue De Bordeaux) & GROUP SPECIALS BEST BABY PUPPY IN SHOW William is an international All Breeds judge, and a lawyer and journalist by profession. He is renowned for his professional approach to judging dogs, together with the respect he demonstrates towards exhibitors. These are qualities the Melbourne Royal Dog Section Committee search for when selecting our judges. Currently William is President of Federation Canófila of Costa Rica, and President of the Central American and Caribbean Union. He is the 2014 General Manager of the FCI show section of the Americas and Caribbean, and also the 2014 Director of the Congress of Judges and Aspiring Judges of FCI in the Americas. William has owned and bred the following breeds over 20 years: German Shepherds, Miniature Schnauzers, (both salt and pepper and black), Dobermanns, Australian Terriers, Fox Terriers (Wire Haired), Yorkshire Terriers, Pointers, English Setters, Papillons, Pekingese, Pugs and Whippets. William’s dogs have gained multiple championships, including World Champions. We are delighted he will be judging a number of these breeds at the Royal. William has judged widely over the years, including USA, Canada, Mexico, Honduras, El Salvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, Colombia, Ecuador, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, New Zealand, South Africa, Philippines, India, Bulgaria, Moldova, Taiwan and Japan. William has judged Specialty Breed Shows and National Breed Shows in the following breeds: Kuvasz, Welsh Corgis (Pembroke & Cardigan), German Shepherds, Australian Shepherds, Australian Cattle Dogs, Border Collie, Boxers, Dobermanns, Rottweilers, Schnauzers, Shar Pei, British Bulldogs, Siberian Huskies, Pointers, Hungarian Vizslas, Golden Retrievers, Labrador Retrievers, Poodles, Papillons, Pugs, French Bulldogs and Boston Terriers. This will be William’s first appointment in Australia and the RASV welcomes him to our judging panel. MR CSABA ZSOLT LOKODI (Romania) Group 4 (Hounds) & GROUP SPECIALS Group 7 (Non Sporting) & GROUP SPECIALS BEST BREEDERS GROUP IN SHOW Zsolt was surrounded by dogs as a child, as his parents bred Pulis. However, he did not maintain the family tradition and purchased his first Airedale Terrier in the early 1980s. This was a breed he had admired whenever he caught sight of them at dog shows, and thus in 1988 he founded his own kennel, Nyaradmemi. Airedales were followed by Dachshunds (Wire Haired) and Welsh Terriers. At the beginning of the 1990s, Airedales were struggling with quality in his country, but Zsolt’s Welsh Terriers were increasing in quality. Currently he breeds Dachshunds (Miniature Wire Haired). Zsolt will judge all Hounds during the Royal Melbourne Show, and also an Airedale Specialty show which will be run in conjunction with the Royal Melbourne Show. Zsolt started judging in the early 1990s, and is now an FCI All Rounder. He has judged in many countries around the world, and his appointments have included a World Dog Show, European Dog Shows, BIS at the German Winner Show and BIS at the Nordic Winner Show. Zsolt is a major organiser of the Dracula Show, conducted each year in Romania. This famous show lures many quality dogs and handlers from across Europe to compete. He is very involved with the Romanian Kennel Club, being Vice President, and also Vice President of the Judges Board in Romania. The RASV welcomes Zsolt to his first mainland appointment, returning to Australia after his last appointment in Tasmania in 2009. MR CRISTIAN STEFANESCU (Romania) Group 1 (Toys) (Less Italian Greyhounds, Miniature Pinschers, Papillons & Pugs) & GROUP SPECIALS Group 2 (Terriers) & GROUP SPECIALS Part Group 3 (Gundogs) (Cocker Spaniels) BEST PUPPY IN SHOW Since he was young, there were always dogs in the family. Cristian’s grandfather brought about his general love of dogs as he was a huge dog lover who also offered him his first dog, a small, red spitz type. Cristian started to breed English Cocker Spaniels in 1988 and this was followed by American Staffordshire Terriers since 2001. Cristian will judge both these breeds at Melbourne Royal. He first went to a dog show in Bucharest in 1981 and it was the decisive moment in his evolution in the canine world! That was when Cristian was “infected” with this virus and he believes that it will never “heal”! He bred English Cocker Spaniels for 15 years. A lot of Cristian’s breeding received excellent results, both in National and International shows. He has managed to monitor them up to the fourth and fifth generation. Unfortunately, due to judging invitations and commitments, Cristian had to curtail breeding, but continued as a dog owner. It is better to know when to stop rather than do things half-way. Cristian became an FCI judge in the year 1992 and an all-rounder judge in 2005. He has the approval to judge all FCI recognized breeds and he has had the honour and pleasure to judge in these last years at many major European and World FCI dog shows, and many varied countries around the world. Since 1988 Cristian was the secretary of the English Cocker Spaniel Club in Bucharest and since 1996 until 2005 he was the General Secretary of the Romanian Kennel Club. Cristian is now the President of the Romanian Kennel Club and Chairman of the Metropolitan Area of Bucharest Kennel Club. Cristian says the most important thing is that you truly love the DOG. If there is this feeling, the rest just comes naturally, with a lot of hard work and lots of passion. A lot of time must be dedicated to study and exemplary behaviour towards exhibitors and the organisers. Each moment of judging brings him a huge responsibility for what he says and does. The RASV welcomes Cristian back for his first appointment in Australia since 2007, and to his first appointment in Victoria. SWEEPSTAKES This judge allocation is currently still being confirmed. ACTION DOG MR TREVOR MOORE (Vic) Obedience Trial Trevor’s introduction to the dog world started in 1968 when he commenced competing in obedience trials and at conformation shows with his first Shetland Sheepdog. He commenced his judging life in the Obedience discipline in 1973 and has judged extensively throughout metropolitan and country Victoria and interstate in New South Wales, Northern Territory, South Australia, Western Australia, Tasmania and overseas in Singapore. Highlights in Trevor’s obedience career as officiating judge includes the Royal Shows in Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Launceston, Hobart and the Victorian National Obedience Trials. This is the first time Trevor has judged at the Royal Melbourne Show before is retirement from judging at the end of this year and the RASV is delighted that he is able to attend. MR NEVILLE COX (SA) Agility & Jumping Trials Neville commenced his career in Agility with a 7 year old Labrador Retriever in 1986 in South Australia when Agility was first introduced as a canine sport. Involved in the founding of the Agility Dog Club of SA in 1992 and having held the title of Head Instructor on and off for many years, Neville has also served on the Dogs SA’s Inaugural Agility Sub-Committee for two years and currently sits on the agility judges assessing panel. Neville gained his Agility Judges Licence in 1996, and has judged in all States of Australia, including Agility Nationals in 2001, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2012. Neville is looking forward to his first appointment at the Royal Melbourne Show and the RASV extends a warm welcome to him.
