Picture preservation: an opportunity to get all your great photo
moments out of the shoebox and to
create a digital library, Saturday May
22, 10 AM – 4 PM and Sunday, May
23, 10 AM to 2 PM.
During this weekend Glenn Alexander
(owner of PixelPreserve a specialized
company) will do in minutes, while
you wait, what would take hours (or
days) to accomplish with a home
scanner - the capture and the conversion into digital form of:
your old family prints
your post card collection
any historical or valuable
documents
Picture restoration: an opportunity to get these blemished or
damaged pictures that are close to
your heart, totally electronically
reconstructed.
Bring your damaged pictures at the
Yates Gallery and Howard Levant
will confirm the possibility of
restoration and the time it will take
for him to do it.
The prices for these services
(preservation or restoration) are
very attractive and part of the proceeds of the sales will be donated
to the Yates County Arts Center.
Bring your collection to the Yates
Gallery and PixelPreserve will return
your one-of-the-kind precious documents back to you safely and provide
you with all the scanned images on
an archival CD/DVD.
Once your digital library is created
you’ll be able to make a slide show
presentation on your computer or TV,
or to share the images with friends
and relatives via e-mail or even to get
a beautiful memory book produced.

The mission of YCAC is
to enrich the quality of life of
Finger Lakes residents, artists, and visitors by providing
opportunities for active participation in the arts.
To this end, we plan,
promote, and develop art
programs and projects; coordinate, schedule, and publicize events; develop and
maintain physical
facilities.
Programs of YCAC are mainly
supported by an annual grant
from the Yates County Legislature, from commissions
collected on Gallery sales,
and by memberships
YCAC ‘s programs are
supported in
part with
public funds
from the
New York
State Council on the Arts.
From the President, Sandy Murrin:
The Next Chapter Begins
As this edition of Perspectives goes
to print, YCAC moves in a new direction. The Arts Center has spent the
last five months with the Gallery on
Elm Street and the workshop space
at the Presbyterian Church on Clinton and North Main Street. During
that time exhibits have grown in size
and scope and more artists have
asked for space in our gallery.
These dilemmas had sent us to the
street looking for new space. The
dream of the Board of Directors put
us on Main Street and after some
frustrating starts, Dick Murphy of
Finger Lakes Reality showed us the
Maxwell Building. The charming
building, once a Village Court will
soon be the new Yates County Arts
Center. The building needs a great
deal of care and we will be turning to
each of you to bring this dream to
realization.
Our search for a new Executive Director has begun and we are looking
forward to reviewing some very interesting resumes. The Board of Directors will begin to interview sometime
in May and hope to have good news
for you very soon.
The Art Center gallery is a catalyst for
the creative expression of artists and
the active engagement of audiences.
Focusing on the visual, performing, and
arts of our time, the Center will take a
diverse approach to the creation, presentation, interpretation, collection, and
preservation of art through exciting exhibits, a studio tour and summer gallery
hours. The Center workshops will examine the questions that shape and
inspire us as individuals, cultures and
communities. Sunny Point will offer a
sanctuary and learning experience for
artists and an exciting Sunday venue of
exhibiting artists and picnic space on
the shores of Keuka Lake.
As we worked to develop our new strategic plan over the past several
months, the unprecedented volatility of
the economy brought significant challenges to the Center along with many
of our sister institutions locally and nationally. In response, our new strategic
plan prioritizes a stable funding and
operational environment in which the
organization’s social vision can be realized while continuing to
deliver a balanced
budget in the current and
subsequent fiscal years.
Stay tuned.

Three Very Different Guest Artists
Opening Friday, June 11, 5-7 PM
Reception Sponsored by Hunt Country Vineyards
John Kosboth
John Kosboth’s primary disciplines include photography,
painting, graphic design and
drawing. His images are
digitally coloristic, impressionistic, abstract, graphic, and,
occasionally, seemingly
photographic.
His work is exhibited at High
Falls, Vagabond Gallery, Finger
Lakes Gallery & Frame, RIT
Honors Digital competition, and
Oswego Art Guild.
Brian Keeler
Keeler’s work is such a synthesis
of approaches that it can’t be
categorized: his painting is photographic, blazing with color, attuned to art history, and extremely
psychological.
His oil paintings are often begun
with quick pencil sketches or
studies done in pastel or with oil,
usually in a smaller scale on location. Sometimes stopping to paint
while driving past a favorite loca-
Karl Neubauer
Karl Neubauer studied sculpture
at the School of Art and Design at
Alfred University and taught there
from 1997 through 2003. Today
he has his own business building
and designing sustainable and
environmentally friendly "green"
houses. His love of architecture
and structure heavily influences
his sculptures.
The entire body of John Kosboth's work may be considered
Deconstructed Expressions of
both the digitally captured images and the emotional gestalt
which influenced the decision
process. The resulting images
are artifacts of a personal process. "While I much prefer that art
speak for itself, I have come to
acknowledge two things: first,
stories tell themselves, and in
the telling, stimulate visualizations....second, art benefits from
verbalization...People are the

tion or in a kayak when he paddles out to paint these studies
from direct observation, they all
have their own way of contributing to studio paintings. Feeling
the air, hearing the ambient
sounds of nature and even the
background sounds of traffic,
lawnmowers and people all contribute to an emotional connection to his subjects. One of the
artist’s main attractions to any
given landscape is the quality of
light on shorelines, clouds.
"I have a love of the natural world,
and in particular trees...they have
inspired me from childhood, and
continue to now. I want my work to
raise awareness of environmental
and social issues, and I find wood
(trees) to be the best material to
voice these ideas. I try to use recycled or found wood as well...I
rarely cut a live tree to make
sculpture.” Karl admits to “a love
of thoughtful play.”

Day Trip to Corning Museum of Glass Tiffany Exhibit
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) began his glass career as a designer of stained glass windows, which were at the time becoming more and more popular for domestic and ecclesiastical use. In
1885, he created his own company . Originally called the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, it became Tiffany Furnaces in 1902. In addition to fabricating the glass for Tiffany’s stained glass windows,
this company produced blown glass vessels.
This exhibit features Tiffany’s blown Favrile glass and recently restored Tiffany design drawings

Sundays at Sunny Point
The Yates County Art
Center is proud to announce
“Sundays at Sunny Point” to
introduce the Keuka Lake
community to its new Arts
Center at 868 East Lake Road,
Dundee.
Sunny Point features
a red, barn-like structure set
between the lakefront beach
and a stand of evergreen trees.
It was a gift to YCAC from the
estate of artist Annie Smith, who returned summer after
summer to her Keuka Lake home. A well-known painter
originally from Elmira and Keuka Lake, Smith hoped that
this gift would invigorate the area’s arts by bringing
artists and the public together.
“Sundays at Sunny Point” will introduce you to
regional artists and their works, showcasing different
artists each of three Sundays: June 20, July 18, and
August 15. Classes and workshops will take place in the
main house. Visiting artists will
live in the adjacent white cottage
while serving as artists-inresidence at various times during the summer.
The Sundays at Sunny
Point will also serve to promote
YCAC’s arts programs for children and adults at the Gallery in
Penn Yan.
Please join the Yates
County arts community for a
Sunday picnic, walk on the beach, or afternoon of music. Mix and mingle with your neighbors, artists, and
fellow art lovers.
Sunny Point is located eight miles south of
Penn Yan and 12 miles north of Hammondsport, New
York. A small dock provides access from the water.
Please call us at 315-536-8226 or visit our
website at www.YCAC.org, for a full schedule of summer classes and for more information about “Sundays
WANTED
Artists for “Sundays at Sunny Point”
YCAC kindly invites artists to participate on
“Sundays at Sunny Point” on Keuka Lake this summer
– June 20, July 18, August 15, 11 AM to 4 PM.
Sundays at Sunny Point is a program where
artists come together, display their work and meet other
artists. Part of this inaugural three Sundays festival is
an art exhibition of different artists each Sunday, which
aims to showcase work from local artists and to introduce the public to our summer artist retreat where
classes, workshops, traveling artists residents and exhibition will continue to take place during the summer
season.
Clean-Up Day
Sunny Point
Saturday, May 15, 2010
10:00 am to 3:00 pm
The goal of YCAC’s Arts Center at Sunny Point
is to offer a summer spot where a picnic, a walk on the
beach, a boat ride stop or an afternoon of music puts
summer people and artists together. We invite you to
participate, to pick a Sunday and help YCAC start a
new tradition of promoting local and regional artists in a
setting surrounded by the lake, hills and summer
breezes. Please contact Janis Long at (215) 297-0696
or email her at [email protected] for additional
information and to request an application. Deadline date
for applications is June 1, 2010
Cleanup Day at Sunny Point will take place on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 10:00 am to 3:00 pm. It is a great way
for families, students, service groups, and neighbors to join
together to take care of facilities and grounds of this gorgeous
property as we prepare for a summer full of workshops,
classes, exhibitions and artists in residents programs. Sunny
Point is located at 868 East Lake Road, 8 miles south of Penn
Yan
Hope to see you there…and if you have them, please
bring along your garden tools. Breakfast coffee, juice and
donuts will be provided. For additional information and to
