Brochure - Flemings Mayfair
Established 1851 Flemings Mayfair Hotel is set in one of London’s most exclusive neighbourhoods on a peaceful residential street, minutes from Green Park, Piccadilly Circus and New Bond Street. Converted from 13 Georgian townhouses dating back from 1731, it opened in 1851 making it one of London’s oldest established hotels. Flemings Mayfair has been privately owned by the same family for over 40 years. The Drawing Room The newly designed Drawing Room at Flemings Mayfair Hotel echoes elegance and style in homage to the hotel’s 18th century origins. This Georgian history is reflected in the room’s harmonious proportions with reinstated period detail including 3m ceiling height and sash windows, as well as an original marble fireplace providing the focal point of the room. The room is complemented by a natural, soft colour palette. Contemporary design is mixed with the classic and showcases bespoke cabinetry by specialist artisans with Maccassar Ebony wood tables edged in antique brass, velvet teal sofas and chairs and coffered ceilings. The refined Indian-inspired tea room welcomes guests and visitors to enjoy light refreshments and beverages all day or to imbibe wine and champagne at its small bar. The Drawing Room is also a perfect setting for an afternoon tea. Working in partnership with the East India Tea Company, guests may choose from a selection of thirteen different traditional and exotic teas including a signature Flemings blend. Bespoke furniture has been designed in silver stained fiddle-back Sycamore, finished in gloss piano lacquer accented with shagreen, brass and buffalo horn. Contrasting textures of banana leaf wall linings, bespoke wool carpets, jewel silk curtains and grey gesso serpentine mirrors add to the understated elegance of the rooms. Each of the lavishly appointed suites and apartments have been individually designed in an understated, contemporary style with quirky touches that reflect a distinct British flair. With generous living-dining rooms, sumptuous bathrooms and fully appointed kitchens with Miele or Siemens appliances, Flemings Mayfair Hotel now offers a very different option for your next stay; whether it is for one night, one week, one month or more. Studio Suite Flemings Hotel Art Collection Flemings Hotel, one of the last privately owned hotels in London, has had a long history of collaborating with local galleries to showcase and promote unique British art and photography. In a new curatorial collaboration, the owners have developed a strong partnership with professional celebrity photographer Dr. Andy Gotts MBE MA who is most noted for his considered black and white portraits of the world’s most famous actors, singers and fashion luminaries. They have commissioned his extraordinary portraiture, with each celebrity having been to Flemings between 2014 to 2015, and that now feature in the hotel’s newly designed luxury bedrooms, suites and apartments. These leading lights include Kate Moss, Nicole Scherzinger, Naomi Campbell, Rita Ora, Hugh Grant, Gary Barlow and Harrison Ford to name a few. Photography © Dr. Andy Gotts MBE Further works of art are on display in The Drawing Room, the hotel’s elegant reception room that echoes elegance and grace in homage to the hotel’s 18th century origins. The room’s heritage is further complemented by exquisite hand-painted wall panels by de Gournay depicting early views of India and ‘The Tree of Life’ by intuitive painter Eileen Schaer. Bookcases on either side of the fireplace display a fascinating collection of art books from Assouline for guests to enjoy and peruse at leisure. ‘The Tree of Life’ By Eileen Schaer Born in Liverpool in 1948, Eileen is a self taught intuitive painter acknowledged for her powerful and original poetic vision. Eileen’s magical paintings depict a colourful dreamlike world. At first glance her paintings would appear childlike but it is precisely this quality of innocent spontaneity that her admirers and collectors like so much. She regards the characters that appear in her paintings as being from an ongoing story that imaginatively unwinds mysterious dramas.
