Party night (first Monday of each month) is April 1st (we'll just ignore the fact its April fool's day). Snacks will be provided by those whose names fall into the first half of the alphabet this month. Our 63rd anniversary dance was a outstanding success. Over ninety persons joined in the fun and enjoyed dancing to both Eric Henerlau and Marie Hathaway. A special thanks to Cindy Corchero and her merry band of helpers. The decorations were beautiful, the food was delicious and everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. There's been some talk of perhaps putting together a recipe book of all the soups that were served. It just might happen if all the chefs would e-mail their recipes. The Orangevale Overalls were among those attending our hoedown. Five Claim Jumpers joined them the following weekend for their St. Patrick's dance. There were eleven squares on the floor for a large part of the evening. Once again Eric Henerlau kept the dancers on their toes. The Claim Jumpers also had representation at Wing Ding and the Bakersfield Fiesta. There were six RVs and a slew of members at Wing Ding. Any pictures taken while visiting other clubs and festivals would be welcomed for our scrapbook. Try to catch our club members enjoying themselves. April's Hoedown of the Month will be to the Calaveras Twirlers new dancer hoedown on April 13th, 7:30-10:30pm. Our own Danny Corchero will be calling along with callers and cuers from the floor. We should have a great turnout for this one as its nice and close and our new dancers can get a little floor time in. There is also a clothing sale!!!!! GETTING TO KNOW George & Mary Lambert George and Mary met at San Jose State where George was a graduate student in Public Administration and Mary was studying Parks and Recreation Administration. George was the second of five children, and was born in Kirkland, WA. Mary was the eldest of two children, and was born in Cleveland, Ohio. They were married in July of 1971 in San Mateo and lived for a short time in San Jose. After only 2 months in San Jose, George got a job with Fresno County Personnel and the couple moved to Fresno, lock stock and one horse. Mary completed her Bachelors at Fresno State. They resided in Fresno for about 5 years, then George changed jobs and became Administrative Assistant to the City Manager in Santa Maria. The couple's first child, Caroline was born there. Santa Maria is also where George and Mary first began square dancing. They danced for about two years, until babysitting on weekday evenings became a problem. There, Mary was active showing her horses (now numbered 2), and singing with the Sweet Adelines barbershop group. In 1980, George and Mary were again on the move. George became the City Manager in Corcoran. Mary gave birth to their son, John, in 1981. After a couple of years, Mary went back to school at Fresno Pacific College and got her teaching credential. She began teaching for Corcoran Unified School District and continued to show her horses. In 1990, George and Mary moved to Norco, a horse oriented community in Riverside County, where George worked as the City Manager. Mary continued to teach and they both began to amass horses. By this time Caroline was riding regularly on her horse and John got his first pony. The couple now had 5 horses, and George began competitive trail riding with the next door neighbor. However, this was not to last, and in 1995, George became City Manager of Patterson. The couple and their son moved to Patterson, where, Mary began teaching horseback riding to the handicapped. Caroline was attending college, where she met and married her husband, Anthony. They have two lovely girls, Allison and Ashley. They currently live in Patterson, but George and Mary decided to retire to Amador County to a ranch they had purchased previously. George retired from Patterson and the two moved to Jackson Valley after their son graduated from Patterson High in 2000. Their son married his high school sweetheart and moved to Cambridge, Mass. Retirement brought on an interest in art for George. His family have all been artistic, so George decided to take up painting. He has enjoyed the creative activity and has sold several paintings. Currently, George's paintings are on display at the Sutter Creek Gallery. Al and Sandy Forrest asked George and Mary if they would be interested in Square Dancing and they have been at it ever since. They are regularly attending Scot Byars' advanced dancing class and are having a great time learning. The Claim Jumpers have always been a warm welcoming group to George and Mary, and they hope to be dancing with the club for a long time to come.
