Introducing the
Regulator 29!
The new Regulator 29 is a
rugged offshore fishing machine
that meets the demanding
requirements of those looking
for exceptional performance in
the 30-foot range. Combining
authentic Carolina styling,
unsurpassed finish work and
no-nonsense functionality,
the 29 is sure once again to raise
the bar for other center console
manufacturers. Based on a hardcharging deep-V hull from
renowned naval architect
Lou Codega, it is available in the
29 Classic open fish series or the
29 FS forward seating series.
The new 29 made her official
worldwide debut at a few early
fall boat shows.
“We’re thrilled to introduce
the new 29 and expect it to be a
homerun in today’s competitive
marketplace,” said Joan
Maxwell, co-founder and president of Regulator. “We listened
to our owners and our dealers,
with the goal to make this the

best 29-foot center console available. Early response has been
outstanding.”
Whatever your deck configuration choice, the 29 comes fully
rigged with bait wells, fish
boxes, gear compartments, and
plenty of rod and tackle storage.
In traditional Regulator style, the
craftsmanship is unparalleled,
with all hatches finished top and
bottom, along with a fully lined,
fully equipped head compartment in the console.
Other key highlights include
wood-free construction,
Regulator’s proprietary
Fiberglass
Grillage System
for outstanding
structural integrity and a transducer pocket for a
clean shot on
your fishfinder
with no drag or
clutter. The helm
boasts one of the
boat’s most
dynamic features
– full-width electronics storage
behind a lockable
Regulator 29 Classic
fiberglass panel.
Two 10-inch displays, or a variety of smaller
units, can be flush-mounted here
for prime viewing from behind
the wheel.
The leaning post was borrowed from the popular
Regulator 26 and can be configured in one of three ways: a standard, four-legged leaning post
without backrest; a SuperSport
leaning post that holds nine rods
Regulator 29 FS
and has a flip-over seat with
storage underneath; or a leaning
post and integral bait-prep center.
The cockpit aft of the console
offers impressive space, with
room enough for four people to
fish. Like the Regulator 24 and
32, the 29 has a flip-door and
transom walkthrough for easy
access to the engines. Pop-up
cleats and a 20-gallon freshwater
system come standard.
Options on the 29 include a
completely fared and finished
fiberglass T-top – considered by
many to be among the finest in
production-built tops on the market today. It includes a radio box,
LED light, built-in bases for the
optional 18-foot Lee® Sidewinder
outriggers and an add-on fiverod rocket launcher. The optional
Edson wheel with power knob
and Teleflex power-assist steering
will appeal to the more performance-minded owners.
“The 29 clearly benefits from
the years of design strategy and
engineering integrity that went
into creating the models before
her. We expect the 29 to not just
meet, but to exceed the demands
of even the most die-hard
anglers,” added Maxwell. See
the new 29 at your local dealer!

Those of us who live on the Mid-Atlantic
Coast are no strangers to hurricanes. Yet even
though we faced Isabel just two years ago and
experienced firsthand the disruption a storm of
such magnitude can bring, I still cannot begin
to comprehend what the people of Southeast
Florida and the Gulf Coast have experienced.
Even today, the images coming out of Florida,
Alabama, Louisiana and Mississippi are
haunting, the devastation unreal. Our hearts
go out to those who lost their homes, their
livelihoods and, in the worst cases, their
very lives.
One of our own dealers was directly in Hurricane
Katrina’s path. Sonny Eirich of Cypress Cove
Boating Center, who owns both the Venice and
Slidell, La., dealerships, suffered severe damage
at both locations. He and his team have been
able to rebuild the Slidell location. The Venice
location, on the other hand, is a long way from
being rebuilt. Sonny has a positive mindset and
the willpower to overcome the terrible tragedy
that has befallen his business.
I feel I would be remiss not to use this opportunity
to encourage our Regulator owners, dealers, their
families and friends to be generous in the face of
this tragedy. Support a charity. Do some relief
work. Offer to help with the American Red Cross
or your local church group. It has been said that
one person cannot make a difference in the world,
but one person multiplied by many can – and do –
make a positive difference!
Stay Safe!

Inaugural Regulator/Contender
Fishing Tournament A Big Success
A sensation of high energy and friendly competition filled the air at the first
Regulator/Contender Shootout held out
of the Montauk Yacht Club on New
York’s Long Island this fall.
Thirty-eight boats – nineteen representing each brand – gathered at the
shotgun start on Saturday, September 10,
and the weather and fishing could not
have been better. And while the “other
guys” took home the trophy at the end of
the three-day event, “the overall success
was the best I’ve seen in a small boat
tournament,” said Wyatt Lane,
Regulator’s national sales manager. “I’ve
talked to numerous people who praised
the event, and everyone said they plan to
come back next year and claim victory
for their respective team. Ten years from
now, we might be looking at a field of 60
or 100 boats and have one of the
Northeast’s top tournaments.”
The contest pitted equal crews of
Regulator and
Contender anglers
against one another
and included fishing for both
inshore and offshore species –
namely fluke, bluefish, striped bass,
shark (mako and
thrasher), tuna
(yellowfin, bluefin,
longfin and bigeye)
and mahi mahi.
In addition to the award for the overall
winning team, the tournament also
awarded largest catch prizes during a
barbecue on the final night. Organized by
Regulator dealer Jimmy Luttieri of
Suffolk Marine Center in Babylon, New
York, and Contender dealership White
Water Marine in Sayville, New York, the
event was several months in the planning, with boats and crews coming from
as far away as Connecticut, New Jersey
and Massachusetts. The competition is
already heating up for next year, with
teams from both camps working on their
winning strategy.
“The spirit of the fishing community
here is unbelievable. There’s so much
drive to go out and enjoy the challenges
of the sport. It’s really amazing,” said
Lane. “One of the Regulators at this
year’s tournament hooked a fish so late
in the day that there was no way to get
the fish back to the dock in time for the
cut-off. Yet for the next seven hours, the
crew fought the fish and didn’t return to
the dock until 11:30 at night. One of the
crewmembers then drove two hours
home, packed his bags and caught a
plane to work a trade show starting at 8
o’clock the next morning! You don’t find
people with this commitment to fishing
very often.”

to keep reading The Regulator Report for
updates on the 2006 Regulator/
Contender Shootout, currently scheduled
for September 8 to 10.

The Best of the Best
Regulator Marine is happy to announce it has
expanded its dealership network in Central Florida to
include Scorpion’s New Port Marina in Port
Canaveral. Open seven days a week, Scorpion’s is a
13-year-old business located on one of the main
inlets along Florida’s Treasure Coast. The five-acre
boatyard includes a 5,000-square-foot service facility, restaurant, bathrooms, laundry mat and fuel dock.
Scorpion’s offers both inside and outside dry storage,
as well as a 75-ton travel lift to haul-out just about
any size and style of boat.
“Regulator is extremely pleased to be represented
by Scorpion’s New Port Marina, and we are excited
to add owners Erik and David Nelson and their sales
manager, Gary Evans, to our family,” said Wyatt
Lane, Regulator’s national sales manager. “The dealership’s focus on sales and service after the sale
makes this a fantastic opportunity for us to reach the
offshore fishing market in Central Florida.”

O
Owner Profile
This Regulator Warrior is a Bona-Fide Shark Catcher!
Boats come and go,
but a tattoo … well,
that’s for life.
Tommy Boniberger
of Farmingdale,
New York, proudly
flexes his very own
Regulator logo
smack dab on his
right bicep. It’s a
permanent thing.
“I’m a Regulator warrior,” he says enthusiastically. “I’m out there
catching sharks for the team every weekend!”
We’re inclined to believe him; when we
caught up with the Long Islander at the inaugural Regulator/Contender Shootout in
September, we watched him tag and release
an eight-foot shark – by hand!
Boniberger has owned his Regulator 23
since March of this year. He bought the offshore center console – his seventh fishing rig
– at the New York Boat Show last January
and then traveled to Regulator factory in
Edenton, North Carolina, to observe it being
built. He describes the day he took delivery
of Krista, named after his daughter, as one of
the happiest days of his boating life.
“I’ve always wanted a Regulator,” he said.
“I was attracted to them for the quality and
the reputation of the ride. I have not been disappointed!”
You can usually find Boniberger and his
regular fishing buddy, Paul Venudi, about 50
to 60 miles east/southeast of Long Island’s
Fire Island Inlet in 30 to 40 fathoms of water.
That’s where the mako sharks lurk, and that’s
what Boniberger hunts with a passion.
“I love the tenacity of the fish,” he said.
“It’s the nastiest, skunkiest fish I’ve ever been
tied to. I’m a fanatic about it!”
Fanatical, yes – but highly successful, too.
Boniberger has caught two dozen of the
toothy man eaters since taking claim to his
new 23 less than a year ago, which anyone
will tell you is an amazing accomplishment
for this fierce species.
Boniberger attributes a lot of that success
to his Regulator 23, which is equipped with
twin 150-hp Yamaha four-strokes and a state-
of-the-art electronics system including radar,
GPS, sonar, VHF and a Mako Magnet electronic fishing lure to attract his prized catch.
Special lighting allows him to fish at night, a
good time to find the elusive predators.
“I couldn’t be happier with the offshore
performance of the boat or the outboards,” he
said. “The 23 easily outruns my old boat, and
that’s no bull.”
We won’t argue with a guy who chases
sharks … and who sports a big bad
Regulator tattoo!
In the Spread
Jig It, Baby!
When setting up an offshore topwater trolling pattern, a lot of folks
put emphasis on the outrigger and
long baits. With the well-defined
lure channels that Regulator hulls
create, I’ve found that a potential
sweet spot many Regulator owners
overlook is setting their lures right
behind the boat in the first and second waves. When I take owners
out on their Regulators as a guide,
I find that almost 90 percent of our
day’s catch comes from this very
fertile area.
When offshore fishing for tuna,
dolphin or wahoo, a fish can sometimes hit and either pull off or miss
the hook after being on for a few
seconds. The natural tendency is to
say, “Man, I missed him” and
move on. Don’t make that mistake!
Grab that rod and jig it hard and
vigorously! You will be amazed
how many fish will come back
through this action … and usually
they come back aggressive enough
so that you can hook them to stay.
Happy fishing!

Regulator Recipes
Here’s a tasty treat from Regulator dealer Todd Knaak of
Cypress Cove Boating Center in Slidell, Louisiana.
It seems like whenever I grill yellowfin tuna, my eyes are bigger
than my stomach and I have quite a bit left over. This is my
solution and everyone loves it! I serve it on herbed crackers.
Smoked Yellowfin Dip
Take leftover tuna, put in a medium bowl and flake with a fork.
Stir in approximately 2 tablespoons mayonnaise or cream cheese (your choice).
• Add one finely chopped white onion.
• Add one finely chopped jalapeno pepper, de-seeded (optional).
• Add six to 10 drops Liquid Smoke.
• Mix to medium consistency, adding more mayonnaise or cream cheese if necessary.
