NFL players join anti-porn crusade on “National
Porn Sunday”
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 29, 2011, 9:05 AM EST
February 6 is Super Bowl Sunday, but to a few NFL players it’s also National Porn Sunday.
That might sound like a day when players who aren’t in the big game will take their mind off football by watching
a lot of porn, but it’s actually an anti-pornography event taking place near Dallas, sponsored by an organization
called XXX Church. Packers defensive end Ryan Pickett was scheduled to attend, but since he’ll be playing in the
game instead, he’s taped a video message to be played there.
“I would love to have been with you guys today. But fortunately, I’m a little busy,” Pickett says in the video,
according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.
Former NFL quarterback Josh McCown also appears in the video, saying he stopped watching pornography
because it was “taking me someplace I didn’t want to go.” And Seahawks quarterback Matt Hasselbeck is a
supporter of XXX Church as well.
Antonio Cromartie would probably reply that Hasselbeck doesn’t know what XXX stands for.

filled with abused people on drugs.

National Porn Sunday is not a dedicated day for porn? And XXX Church is against porn. Very misleading.
That’s like not serving beer at Oktoberfest. They shouldn’t tease people like that.
On a much better note, I saw in the news that Dallas Area strip clubs are seeking over 10,000 strippers for
Super Bowl Week. Guess there is a shortage.

Hey MDS – you’ve got guts! Especially knowing what kind of smack you’re going to get in this forum.
All of us know somewhere that while porn is exciting for a little while, it’s not good. On a lot of levels, for
everyone involved, for others who aren’t involved. Kind of like drugs or anything else that’s not good.
Me, it was hard getting out. It took about 2 years of trying and failing. Even though I’m clean, some days
it’s still an intense challenge. My choices did a lot of damage to my ex-wife, and my kids. Not to mention
my part in $$ this monster that hurts so many women and girls, and that gets better at roping in more men.
Taking people further than they imagined.
But I also found out God is more forgiving, more generous, more powerful than I ever thought I’d have to
know. I owe Jesus deeply.
OK, fire away guys! Your shtick is funny!
Thanks again MDS. Peace out.

The XXX Church is ridiculous. I have seen them featured on many shows and it is almost comical. How
can anyone take a church seriously when it’s main claim to fame is penning the phrase: “Every time you
masturbate… God kills a kitten”. Yes, they are the fanatics that created that slogan.
With the support of McCown, Hasselbeck, Pickett and Kitna they can start their own 10 team league if they
can recruit about 500 more players.
If the church wants to “clean things up” they should start with all the churches/ preachers/priests, etc… that
molest innocent children.

Knowing what Elizabeth Hasselbeck is like, it’s no surprise that Matt’s publicly this way. That said, I’ll bet
the two do some nasty things in private. Facades are hilarious.
At any rate, I think anyone who turns to NFL players as role-models, or in any way allows an NFL player
to be a role model for his/her kid(s), is an idiot. While players can do positive or negative things, just like
most people, I refuse to let what any of them does affect how I live my life. I wish more people would
realize that professional doctors, lawyers, engineers, etc. are much better people for both kids and young
adults to emulate than are pro athletes.

Porn, like drugs, alcohol, gambling, sex and chocolate, are only addictive to people with addictive
personalities.
It is not the fault of the substance or activity, is the fault of the people who can’t control themselves.
I have done all of the above, enjoyed them all, and become addicted to none of them.

Surprised how many adults actually watch porn… I’m guessing most people here are 18-25 years old like I

There is an important difference between freedom and license. People in this country enjoy license to view
pornography. After cultivating that habit, they become enslaved by it. Being a slave to such a destructive
vice is no kind of freedom at all.
These players understand the difference and see how harmful porn is to the family and to relationships.
They are trying to cure a social ill, not force their standards on anyone.

Those who say that “others are trying to impose their standards” this is a copout. People who know that
porn in harmful have the right to voice that perspective.
Porn objectifies women. I am a psychologist. I’ve counseled Thousands of men and couples over the course
of a 25 year practice. Porn distroys marriages and lives. 100% of men (who have come to my practice) who
have cheated on their wives also consume porn. The healthiest relationships are where the couple reserves
100% of their sexual energy for each other. Pornography releases chemicals in the brain (serotonin,
dopamin, etc.) that creates an addiction. Is it ironic that serial killers and rapest have backgrounds of intense
and progressive pornography consumption.
There is an infidelity epidemic in this nation. Abortion, divorce, and STDs are at a crisis level. Pornography
consumption is a part of the problem.
If you regularly consume porn and don’t think you are addicted, try not looking at porn or masturbating for
seven days…just for yucks. You probably won’t be able to withstand the physical response by day four.

Believe what you want but the people who think these guys are holding others down against their will or
getting in their face preaching are wrong. Just because they are against something you enjoy doesn’t mean
you need to be hostile of their beliefs. Maybe some of us don’t like all the ingrained into almost every single
moment of the NFL (even in the types of commercials) the “sex sells” mentality like half naked cheerleaders
or the lingerie bowl but I understand that the NFL is considered more of a man’s world and that some of
this is just …ahem….PREACHING TO AND FORCING THEIR BELIEFS ON the majority of viewers.
And hey if it bothered me that much I could shut the tv off. As could all you “I like freedom of speech until
others believe what I don’t ” people can do with this posting or those guys church ad.
No I am not religious either, I just think “intolerance” is not the sole battle cry of people who engage in and
enjoy certain taboo or private sexual behavior. In fact it is a lot of you on here talking about
INTOLERANCE while scoffing at those with different beliefs who are really intolerant. If someone isn’t
coming to my door preaching or trapping me in a room preaching, I couldn’t care less what their beliefs are
if they aren’t hurting others. And certainly if you can escape their views by turning off a tv or clicking off
an article you are not having ANYTHING shoved down your throat…if you think you are being force fed
things under those circumstances and you are a grown man or woman you are a bunch of whiny drama
queens.

@simonadebisi:
Is this how you counsel your clients? That it is the porn that releases the chemicals and makes them addicted
and that is has nothing to do with their own addictive tendencies?
Yes, porn can be addictive- for people who get addicted to things.
That it is porn that is causing them to cheat and destroying their marriages, not their own inability to keep
their vows and control their impulses?
Your practice must be very popular. People love being told that whatever mess they gotten themselves into
isn’t their fault.
The “infidelity epidemic” is being caused by an overall lack of accountability in our society, as well as
people getting married for a thousand reasons other than only reason they should- whether it be family
pressure, religious expectation, unexpected pregnancies, etc. etc. etc.
100% of cheaters will tell you it always something else that led them astray, not their own lack of character.
Now thanks to Dr. Simon Adebisi, they can blame porn too.
My wife and I have watched porn together. Strangely, it seems to be doing the exact opposite of
“destroying our marriage”.
What we need in this country is less demonization of things like porn and gambling a little more personal
responsibility and acceptance of the consequences of one’s actions.

Correlation and causation, man. The people you deal with come to you because they have a problem. Just
because there is a common thread among them doesn’t mean the thread is significant. Did you know that
100% of alcoholics have, as some point, drank milk? And every single drug addict has at some point taken
aspirin?
That must mean that milk causes alcoholism and aspirin is a gateway drug.
(And by the way…..”100% of men (who have come to my practice) who have cheated on their wives also
consume porn.” is a ridiculously stupid statement because 100% of men period have or do consume some
form of porn.)

on the whole is not “drug addicted.” You can’t tell me I’m making an assumption when I point out that
someone ELSE’S assumption is unsupported. Get real.
Secondly, I DO respect their right to disagree. What I do not respect is players using their positions as such
to proselytize. I do not respect people here making unsupported blanket statements (“porn will wreck your

WOW! I can’t believe there are so many people out there who don’t know where porn actors come from.
Do you think these women (and some men) grow up thinking, “some day I want to be a porn star”? No.
Most of them are stolen and cohersed in some way to do what they do. Ever heard of the sideshoot of the
drug industry called human trafficking? It’s a billion dollar industry that is paid for by drug dealers and
people who purchase porn. It can happen to your daughter, your niece, your neighbors daughter or any boy
or girl in your local school. They are kidnapped and many times forced to become drug addicts so they do
what they do to get their drug fix. So, next time you’re watching your innocent porn, think of that woman
as a fourteen year old girl who was kidnapped or picked up on a street corner and promised a good paying
job. Oh, and remember, when she’s too old for porn making, say 25-26, well miraculously, she’ll never
been seen or heard from again. Think about that next time you watch porn. Want to learn more? Read more
about human trafficking. That is, if you can pull yourself away from, well you know.

Clearly, you are the one, who doesn’t have a clue. Years ago, when there was still more stigma attached,
some women were not thrilled to do porn, and may have done it to feed a drug habit. Now, there are
thousands of women, who gladly volunteer to do porn.
If you had ever seen a recent interview with virtually any actress (some of Charlie Sheen’s porn stars’ recent

101. tfbuckfutter says: Jan 30, 2011 6:47 PM
jntmcd63, You’re confusing prostitutes with actors. Granted, the acting they do is, in a not-exactly-abstract
way, prostitution, the women and men who perform in mainstream pornography are there of their own free
will.
Did they all have roses and ice cream cake upbringings? No. Do some of them have addictions or other
problems that they perform in porn to support? Yes. Does that mean they are being taken advantage of?
Maybe….but on the other hand, some might say they are actually exploiting a system whereby men are
willing to pay a great deal of money to see them do things they don’t attach the same significance to as
“normal” people.
In fact, many women involved in the pornography industry are incredibly lucid and well-rounded
individuals.

102. tfbuckfutter says: Jan 30, 2011 7:27 PM
I’d also like to point out that, in a relationship, the issues that arise from porn consumption aren’t from the
porn themselves but the mismatched opinions regarding porn, and the lying that accompanies that. “I don’t
want you watching porn because I’m not comfortable with it.” “Ok, I won’t watch porn.” “I CAUGHT
YOU WATCHING PORN! BOO HOO!”
Women who are comfortable with themselves and with their relationship understand that men are visual and
find women, aside from them, attractive.
Women who are insecure find porn to be an issue.

This has been a passionate but fairly civil discussion. There has been some pettiness and name calling, but
that has not dominated the discussion.
My closing thought is that porn is harmful and potentially devastating. You cannot not defend something
that is indefensible. You won’t find a shred of credible research that indicates that porn is harmless. Even
that most liberal researcher wouldn’t attempt to make that case. The chemistry of the brain that allows us to
feel pleasure can be manipulated to it’s detriment. That’s what porn does. Because someone is ignorant to
it’s affects doesn’t mean that they do not exist.
I wish everyone the best in making good decisions for themselves and for those that they love.

Like the battle against the world’s oldest profession, porn too has been around for some time.
Palaeolithic & Mesolithic
Among the oldest surviving examples of erotic depictions are Paleolithic cave paintings and carvings. Some
of the more common images are of animals, hunting scenes and depictions of human genitalia. Nude human
beings with exaggerated sexual characteristics are depicted in some Paleolithic paintings and artifacts (e.g.
Venus figurines). Recently discovered cave art at Creswell Crags in England, thought to be more than
12,000 years old, includes some symbols that may be stylized versions of female genitalia. As there is no
direct evidence of the use of these objects, it is speculated that they may have been used in religious rituals,
[8] or for a more directly sexual purpose.[9]
Archaeologists in Germany reported in April 2005 that they had found what they believe is a 7,200-yearold scene depicting a male figurine bending over a female figurine in a manner suggestive of sexual
intercourse. The male figure has been named Adonis von Zschernitz.[10]
107. jntmcd63 says: Jan 31, 2011 12:46 PM
selgaeinla, I totally agree with everything you just said. Sex and prostitution have been around for a long
time. If sex weren’t the most natural thing in the world, none of us would be here.
Men (and the women who will admit it) are visual creatures and like viewing sexually stimulating images.
The problem lyes in the times we live in. These images are readily available any time of the day or night,
regardless of your age, sex or marital status. It creates chemical changes in our bodies that CAN BE
addicting.
Look, settle down all you guys who are threatened that someone is trying to take your porn away. The
porn/prostitution/drug industry is alive and thriving and will ALWAYS be around. These people speaking
on Porn Sunday are just some people who see the problems it creates and are bravely willing to tell us the
problems it has created in their own lives. You can’t honestly say they don’t have the right to do this if you
are given the right to do what you do.

The number of people expressing this attitude astounds me. You make this prediction and statement with no
support whatsoever. Can porn be addictive and harmful to marriages? Yes. Can it actually be enjoyable and
healthy for married couples and other couples? Yes. It all depends. Oh, and “ask a woman?” My wife

The last I heard, no porn addict has ever pulled a bank heist or robbed some old lady of her purse to buy
more.
In fact, the only abuse involved with being a porn addict is the frequent abuse of said addicts own body for
pleasure. If it’s okay for a woman to have an abortion (even if it is wrong), there shouldn’t be an issue of
helping yourself to more porn online and elsewhere.
Imagine Nancy Pelosi and Hilary Clinton pulling at your arms and telling you to stop watching porn…Oh
god I just killed the mood. Sorry guys, sorry. I just said too much.
