The iskn story
iskn started with an invention that
revolutionizes the way we interact with the
digital world.
The story began five years ago at CEA-Leti, a laboratory in Grenoble that
specializes in electronics and microtechnologies.
Timothée Jobert, a user experience specialist, and Jean-Luc Vallejo, head
of the user experience innovation department, were thinking about how
objects in our everyday lives can be used to interact with the digital world
as effortlessly as possible.
Early on, an idea emerged for a magnetic ring whose motions could be
tracked by a network of magnetic sensors. Tristan Hautson, an embedded
systems engineer, joined the team, and was able to provide proof of
concept in just a few months.

A Successful Crowdfunding Campaign
On September 10, 2013, a Kickstarter campaign was launched
with the goal of raising $35,000 in one month. The iSketchnote
project ended up raising nearly ten times that amount, or
$346,127. With more than 300 mentions in the press and over
5,000 tweets, the project gained visibility and brought together
a community of 2,500 supporters who stayed involved
throughout the product development phase.

The Imagink App,
Designed to enhance your creativity
Imagink lets you choose brushes that recreate the
expressiveness of drawing. It resembles the feel of the
medium and conveys the emotion of hand-drawn lines.
Imagink is compatible with all iPads (except iPad 1 and iPad
2), iPhone (starting from 6 and 6+), Mac (starting from OSX
10.10 Yosemite) and PC (starting from Windows 7).
The iskn team is working to develop a new app for Android
devices. It’s coming soon!

The Imagink App is now
available on PC and Mac
As of April 2016, the Imagink app lets you use the
Slate directly on your PC or Mac computer. Just as
intuitive and realistic as the iOS version, it allows all
pen and paper lovers to select a panel of tools with
unique rendering.
The Imagink app was entirely conceived and
designed by the iskn development team. It is just
as suited for leisure and creative uses as it is for
professional uses. Very easy to handle, it will evolve
in time with new tools dedicated to 3D scene
visualization as well as parallax effects.

Iskn was founded in February 2014 by a
multidisciplinary team specializing in electronic
engineering and user experience.
Iskn’s mission is to combine the natural experience of
tangible tools with the power of digital technology.
The company develops and markets the Slate, an
innovative writing surface. This unique product lets you
use any kind of paper and a wide range of drawing and
writing tools. Made in France, the Slate is a product of
French industrial excellence.
iskn’s disruptive technology is based on 20 patents
and over 70 years of research and expertise in
magnetism at the Alternative Energies and Atomic
Energy Commission (CEA). iskn’s patented technology
will soon be integrated into many devices with multiple
applications.

Tristan Hautson
Director of Research and Development
After earning a degree in electronics and embedded systems from
the engineering school ENSEIRB-MATMECA in 2010, Tristan
Hautson began working for CEA-Leti on an internal resourcing
project. The goal was to use a triaxial magnetometer network to
track a magnet in 3D. He studied this technology for 18 months
and developed electronic prototypes, dedicated algorithms, and
demonstration models that showcased new possibilities. Over a
two-year period, the technology matured and 11 patents
were filed. In 2014, he left his position at CEA and
became Director of Research and Development at
iskn, a start-up founded to promote this technology.

Timothée Jobert
UX and Design Director
With a PhD in contemporary history, Timothée Jobert went on to
specialize in technology design and user experience at Minatec Ideas
Lab from 2006 to 2007. He then joined a start-up specializing in
motion capture (Movea) and led a project on gaming. In 2010, he
began working for a technological innovation laboratory at CEA
Grenoble. There he developed a business focused on interaction
design and user experience. He led several projects with major
companies (ST Ericsson, Oxylane, Sanofi…) on concepts such as
mobility and smart homes. In late 2010, he met Tristan Hautson
and Jean-Luc Vallejo, and together they launched a new
iskn technology project. In 2014, he left his position at
CEA and became Managing Director and Director of
User Experience at iskn.

Jean-Luc Vallejo
Chief Executive Officer
In 2008, Jean-Luc Vallejo finished his training and earned a Master’s degree in innovation management. In 2010, he met Timothée
Jobert and Tristan Hautson. They came up with the idea of using
new technology from CEA-Leti to digitize handwriting while using
a sheet of paper and pens that had no electronics.
At the time, he was the head of a laboratory for user-centered
technological innovation.
In 2014, he left CEA-Leti to found iskn with his partners and became the CEO.
