Aphesis Group Information: What is the length of the process? Meets
“The Aphesis Group ministry is essential to
the church at a foundational level. Aphesis
provides an incredible opportunity for the
church to begin to become healthy and
whole. Spiritual growth is often stunted or
difficult for many believers; it is hard to grow
into maturity as a Christ-follower when there
are issues related to the developmental
process where people are stuck. I have
seen tremendous growth in several individuals who have participated in the Aphesis
Group process, slow steady consistent
growth that to me reflects true healing and
understanding of God's tremendous love
and grace.”
Mark Coffin, Lead Pastor
Riverside Community Church
“The Aphesis Group Experience is simply
life changing. It brings to light unforeseen
opportunities for healing, growth, and health
out of past crises of hurt, spiritual stagnation, and toxic emotions. I would strongly
recommend this group to anyone wanting to
find the joy and confidence in life that can
be discovered in a healthy and nurturing
relationship with the triune God. Be prepared to be transformed!”

“I have been in the clinical counseling field
for over ten years and have been a Christian for 25 years. In the extensive reading
and Biblical research I have done, I have
never experienced any curriculum that compares to Aphesis. It is the most comprehensive and Biblically sound material I have
encountered, and is applicable to people
regardless of their demographics and addresses a variety of issues. I have seen truly
amazing results in the lives of my clients. I
highly recommend the Aphesis program.”

What is an Aphesis Group?
Aphesis [af-uh-sis]:
The Greek word meaning release from bondage or
imprisonment, forgiveness or pardon of sins.
An Aphesis Group is a 22 week small group
discipleship process that effectively addresses
the complexity of issues in believer's spiritual,
emotional, and relational life brought about from
western culture's unhealthy influences and
disintegrating family structure.
THE EXPERIENCE is unique and theological. It
walks believers through the process of coming to
terms with life’s challenges. It offers real hope
through discussion and deep contemplation of the
transforming truths of scripture.
THE GOAL of this small group experience is to
impart a new and more accurate understanding of
self, others and God; resulting in the spiritual,
emotional and relational health that all of us long for
and few actually experience.
The Aphesis Group process is for
EVERYONE who desires to focus on
deepening their relationship with God
and their understanding of themselves.
There is a great need in many churches and
Christian organizations to become better
equipped to address in a strong Biblical way
the many issues believers are commonly
facing today.
A key part of the Aphesis Group process is the
New Testament concept of taking off (the old
self) and putting on (the new self), dying to
the old self and walking in newness of life.
It is difficult to take off, or die to something
that has not been clearly identified!
The Aphesis Group process uniquely walks
people through their spiritual, cultural, and
family backgrounds to help them identify lies
and false perceptions; then helps them see
themselves correctly in light of a Biblical
perspective.
The Aphesis Group process is not
intended to replace your existing
small group structure, materials or
classes. This is a special growth
opportunity for people who want
to go deeper in their understanding
of and relationship with God, self,
and others.
During this group process participants

Join a mixed gender group of 10-16
participants who meet weekly for 2½-3
hours.
Be led by two trained group facilitators
(male and female).
Have 2-3 hours of home work per week,
studying materials distributed in lesson
form on a weekly basis.
Come prepared to discuss the passages,
concepts and reflection questions the
first half in a mixed gender group. The
group then breaks up into smaller gender
specific groups of 5-8 people to make
application and process the material
personally in an open, safe group
environment.
Learn solid Biblical concepts and
perspectives that help them better
address common inner life and relational
issues.
Discover they are not alone in the
struggles and difficulties they are
experiencing.
Better understand from a Biblical
perspective the undercurrents that
commonly cause painful emotions and
hurtful behaviors.
Learn life-changing concepts and skills
which will enhance their ability to make
decisions, solve problems, and see
themselves correctly in light of Biblical
truths.
What Makes the Aphesis Group
Process Unique?





It is an effective proven process not just
small group material and good
information.
The group leaders are thoroughly trained
and resourced to skillfully and effectively
lead group participants through the
Aphesis material and process.
People must agree to a set of group
norms and values before they can
participate. This helps set the group up
for success.
It gives group members the opportunity to
see, dissect, and process; in a small
group context, their own personal belief
systems and ineffective approaches to
their inner life, spiritual life and
relationships in light of solid Biblical truth.
It systematically reveals, in specific ways,
how our fallen nature, fallen culture and
fallen family backgrounds have profoundly
shaped each one of us on a deep,
instinctual level.
It gives group members the time and a
safe place to deeply process what is
REALLY going on in their lives. It is done
in a way that sharing is not forced or
manipulated. Group members learn, via
personal experience, the tremendous
benefits of a safe community where they
can be honest and transparent.
It addresses, in a Biblical way, common,
hurtful undercurrents that negatively
influence our perspectives and underlying
beliefs and behaviors about family life;
personal identity; emotional life; coping
mechanisms; and relationships.
It imparts inner life skills. Skills that help
group participants know how to
understand and manage their emotions.
Group participants regularly experience
the Gospel in profound new ways that
bring about authentic and lasting joy,
peace, and hope.
The results of the group process are
consistently positive and long term.
