Cutting Instructions:
Please read all instructions carefully before beginning. 1/4" seam
allowance is included in measurements. WOF = width of fabric.
LOF = length of fabric. RST = right sides together. Label pieces and
keep together until ready to sew. These instructions are based on
unwashed fabrics.
A.Pattern #23530 – BLA1 (large paisley):
1. Cut (2) 5" x 48" LOF strips.
2. Cut (2) 5" x 57" LOF strips
3. Fussy-cut (5) 41/2" x 71/2" rectangles.
B.Pattern #23532 – RED1 (floral vines):
1. Fussy-cut (4) 41/2" x 71/2" rectangles.
C.Pattern #23536 – GOL1 (tonal paisley):
1. Cut (6) 13/4" x WOF strips.
2. Cut (1) 13/4" x WOF strip.
D.Pattern #23535 – DKGRE1 (texture):
1. Cut (6) 13/4" x WOF strips.

to yield 16 triangles.

I.Pattern #23536 – RED1 (tonal paisley):
1. Cut (4) 5" squares. Mark one diagonal on the wrong side
of each square.
2. Cut (2) 53/4" squares. Cut each square on both diagonals
to yield 8 triangles.
3. Cut (6) 13/4" x WOF strips.
J.Pattern #23536 – BLA1 (tonal paisley):
1. Cut (4) 5" squares.
2. Cut (7) 11/2" x WOF strips.
K.Pattern #23531 – BLA1 (stripe):
1. Cut as many 21/2" bias strips as needed to equal 266"
for binding.
Piecing instructions:
BLOCKS
A. Four Patch Units:
1. Sew a C2 and an E strip together. Press seam and cut
strip set into (20) 13/4" x 3" CE units (Figure 1).

2. Sew an E and an F1 strip together. Press seam. Make
two strip sets. Cut strip sets into (36) 13/4" x 3" EF units
(Figure 2).

3. Sew a CE and an EF unit together to make a 3" CEF unit.
Make 20 CEF units (Figure 3).

4. Sew a D2 and an E strip together. Press seam and cut
strip set into (16) 13/4” x 3" DE units (Figure 4).

B. Strips:
6. Sew a C1 and a D1 strip together into a 3" CD strip set.

7. Cut (18) 3" x 71/2" CDV units and (18) 3" x 41/2" CDH
units from the CD strip sets. (V = vertical; H = horizontal)
C. Block Construction:
8. Lay out an A3 rectangle, 4 CEF units, 2 CDV units and
2 CDH units as shown. Sew pieces together row by row
and sew rows together to make a block that measures
91/2" x 121/2". Make 5 AC blocks (Figure 7).
9. Lay out a B rectangle, 4 DEF units, 2 CDV units and
2 CDH units as shown. Sew pieces together row by row
and sew rows together to make a block that measures
91/2" x 121/2". Make 4 BD blocks (Figure 8).

9. Layout one each of G2, H6 and H7 as
shown and sew together into a 5" square.
Make 4 G2H units (Figure 15).
10. Place an I1 square on a G2H unit, right
sides together, as shown. Sew on the
marked diagonal. Trim excess fabric
and press out to make a 5" G2HI square.
Make 4 G2HI Cornerstones (Figure 16).

8. Sew a GH, H4 and an HI unit together to make a 5" GHI
square. Make 8 GHI Cornerstones (Figure 14).
A. Quilt Center:
1. Layout the AC and BD blocks, the FGFV, FGFH, FGHV,
and FGHH sashing units, the GHH, GHI and G2HI
cornerstones as shown in the quilt layout. Sew units
row by row. Then, sew rows together. The quilt should
measure 451/2" x 541/2" at this point.
B. First Border:
2. Sew the six I3 strips together end to end. Press seams
open. Cut two 541/2" lengths and sew to the sides of the
quilt. Cut two 48" strips and sew to the top and bottom of
the quilt. The quilt should measure 48" x 57" at this point.
C. Second Border:
3. Sew A2 strips to both sides of the quilt.
4. Sew a J1 square to both ends of an A1 strip to make a
5" x 57" AJ strip. Make 2 AJ strips.
5. Sew an AJ strip to the top and to the bottom of the quilt.
The quilt should measure 57" x 66" at this point.
D. Third Border:
6. Sew the seven J2 strips together end to end. Press seams
open. Cut two 66" strips and two 59" strips. Sew the 59"
strips to both sides of the quilt. Then sew the 66" strips to
the top and bottom of the quilt. The quilt should measure
59" x 68" at this point.
Finishing:
1. Prepare backing with a horizontal seam to measure 69" x 78".
Press seam open.
2. Layer quilt top, batting and backing. Baste layers together.
3. Quilt as desired.
4. Trim layers even with quilt top.
5. Join binding strips with diagonal seams. Press seams open.
Press length of joined strips in half lengthwise to create
double-fold binding. Sew binding to quilt using your
favorite method.
6. Make a label and sew to back of quilt.
