Next weekend, on Saturday May 7th, we'll be hosting the first ever Stitch N' Roll when BoY knitters take over the Charlotte Roller Girls bout against The Lowcountry Highrollers! If you haven't been to a Roller Girls event you are missing a seriously good time. Like hockey, it's not really necessary that you understand what's happening to have a lot of fun! Tickets are $10 in advance at the store. Summer Camps! Betsey will be leading day camps this summer during June and July at Providence Day School. Sessions run Monday to Friday morning from 9:00am until 12:00pm. She is offering a variety of camps throughout the summer for children rising into grades 2 - 6, and there will be something for everyone and plenty to keep young knitters and crocheters busy all summer. Sign up for as many camps as you would like! We can’t wait to be a part of your summer fun! For complete schedules, details and to register for camps please visit: http://www.providenceday.org Completed Project! Lynne Little was the first of the Firefly Knit-Along knitters to send in a picture of her completed project. Lynne finished hers in the cowl version and sent us this shot of our beloved Aunt Betty modeling the finished project. Only Lynne can actually claim her as an aunt but we love her too! Way to go Lynne, and thanks for sharing! Berroco Knitbits! This week in the Berroco Knitbits newsletter, they are featuring this cute baby blanket (Vexillo) knit out of Berroco Sox. Gary and I decided that this would be a great project for us to work on together for the newest addition to our extended family (more details on that in the future!). Please note that I said extended family, not immediate. We do have Berroco Sox in some VERY cute crayon colors that would be perfect for this baby blanket. Crochet Circle! Thursday “Knit Nights” are being taken over by Patty and her crazy crochet projects! Patty will be committed to hanging out on Thursdays just for Knit Night and she will be working on crochet projects and available to help or lend moral support to all those crocheting! In the last year, we have had a number of crochet class projects, including Tunisian Mitered Square Afghan, Groovyghan, Moorish Mosaic Afghan, Tunisian Lace Scarf, Year of Crochet Blocks, Infinity Wrap and more! If you are stuck or need help on any of these projects, Thursday is your day! It is also just a good day for Patty to get her own projects finished! The Groovyghan is an on-going Crochet-ALong, so anyone can jump in at any time! You can make the Groovyghan in sedate colors and it is also gorgeous. Here are some of Patty’s squares so far! New Feed Your Creativity Kits on the Way! We received notification that the new Feed Your Creativity Kits are on the way! Fed Ex tells me that the packages were picked up on April 29th in Birmingham Alabama and are now in Ellenwood GA. Estimated delivery is May 3. Patty has started on this scarf and hopes to have it finished soon, but we may be doing this one as a REAL Knit A Long. The great thing is that the pattern has 6 cables but it is a great beginner cable scarf. The cables are small and easy to understand. Look for the KAL starting sometime in the second week of May and watch Facebook to see when they actually arrive in the store this week. Come early to get your best choice of colors because when they are gone, they are gone! On Our Needles... Berroco's KnitBits newsletter this week gave me "baby blanket on the brain", so I started playing with the baby sock yarns. This delicious baby sock yarn is made by Cascade and is called Fixation. It is mostly cotton but has just a little bit of elastic to help it bounce back. It even comes in cute little baby size balls for baby socks! I am making a blanket out of all the colors we have in stock and making blocks of solid and stripes that I will put together. Here is the first one! This week, all Cascade Fixation and Berroco Sox yarn will be 20% off! Take a look at past projects "on our needles" for fun and inspiration! Patty’s Bookshelf I have always loved knitting and crochet books and magazines. I love reading them and I love looking at all the pictures. I thought you might enjoy exploring the bookshelf with me. As often as I can, I’ll include a book that isn’t necessarily a new edition, but is one that we have in the store that you might be interested in. All books are always 20% off the manufacturers suggested price. "Knitting 24/7" by Veronik Avery This book has a great premise…we are all hooked on knitting and like to squeeze it into every minute of down time we have. The book has 30 projects that are mainly hats, scarves, socks and bags. These patterns all share the commonality of portability and easy to memorize patterns. I think you will really enjoy this book and easily find 5 – 10 patterns that you will fall in love with. I especially liked the Transitional Scarf and the Mesh Layering Tank. Other books by Veronik Avery: Knitting Classic Style We have 4 of these in the store if you are interested! 25% off this week only! Classes Beginner Tunisian Crochet! - Patty will be leading beginning Tunisian crochet classes starting this week, with one class scheduled this Thursday, 5/5, starting at 6pm and another one on Saturday, 5/14, at 10:30am. These classes are based on a new book from Martingale, "Hooked on Tunisian Crochet" by Sheryl Thies that we have mentioned before in the newsletter. Since it came in she's been pouring over it during meals and is very excited by the great info and projects in the book! In the beginner class she'll use the coaster and place mat pattern from the book as these are perfect projects for the beginner because they let you practice the Tunisian Simple Stitch and also demonstrate changing colors in Tunisian. At $60, the class will include yarn, crochet hooks (one Tunisian, one regular) and a copy of this great book to start off your Tunisian adventure! Moorish Mosaic Afghan - Saturday, May 7th at 2:00pm. A very popular project from the retreat and an absolutely beautiful design that will become a family heirloom! We currently have the best selection of afghan “appropriate” yarns ever! 35 different colors of Ella Rae, lots of Berroco Vintage, Cascade 220 Superwash and Plymouth Encore. You'll need 5 balls of your main color and 2 ball each of 5 coordinating colors. Tunisian Entrelac Shawl - How many ends does a woman need to weave in before she turns into a heretic? That is the basis for the name of this great Tunisian Entrelac Shawl “The Motivated Heretic.” It utilizes Noro’s great color changing yarn, Silk Garden, and the EASIEST Entrelac pattern I have ever done! The basic Tunisian Simple Stitch is all that is needed to make this shawl, plus the ability to count to 8. Yes, 8 stitches is all you ever have on your needle! You are going to love this pattern and this beautiful shawl! Patty will be teaching this class twice this month, on Tuesday 5/17 at 6pm and again on Saturday 5/28 at 3pm. The class price includes 9 skeins of Noro Silk Garden or Noro Kureyon (We have 5 remaining colors with all 9 skeins available in the store, or you can mix and match. Special orders can be made for a slight up-charge but you want to get that order in soon!), and the book "Get Hooked on Tunisian Crochet" by Sheryl Thies (we can provide a discount if you already have the book). All for $120.00! Check our CLASS SCHEDULE to see all the available classes!
