The Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts presents Art Auction 2016
Montgomery, AL, February 10, 2016 — Art Auction 2016, the biennial fundraising event benefitting the
acquisition, exhibition, and education programs at the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, is scheduled
for March 3 and 5. This two-evening event is comprised of an exhibition of works of art available for sale
at the Silent Auction on March 3 and Live Auction and Dinner on March 5. Preview of the works
available opens Saturday, February 13 at 10 A.M. The artwork will remain on view daily during public
hours at the Museum.
Sponsored by Merrill Lynch, Art Auction 2016 will offer nearly 400 works of art including oil paintings,
watercolors, prints, sculpture, furniture, glass, and jewelry, as well as non-art items such as travel
opportunities and unique entertainment packages. William Dunlap, William Christenberry, Ann
Goldthwaite, Andre Kohn, and Thomas Hart Benton are just a few of the featured artists in this year’s
auction.
Mary Dunn, Art Selection Chair, and her committee have traveled the country securing a wide range of
works in different price points and media to attract both the seasoned and novice collector. The Art
Selection Committee includes Lucy Jackson, co-chair, Jane Barganier, Ginny Cumbus, Camille-Elebash
Hill, Bonner Engelhardt, Susan Geddie, Gage LeQuire, Phillip Rawlings, Winston Wilson Reese, Bruce
Reid, and Laurie Weil.
The Museum will introduce mobile bidding at the Silent Auction, so make sure to bring your phone to vie
for your newest masterpiece! If you would like assistance in learning about mobile bidding before the
event, the MMFA will offer daily training sessions during the Preview Tuesday through Saturday at 11
A.M. and Sunday at 1 P.M.
Volunteers working on Art Auction 2016, under Volunteer Chair Lisa Capell, include Co-chair Allison
Ingram, Past Chair, Emilie Reid, Glenda Allred, Jean Belt, Ward Chesser, Elizabeth DuBard, Ashley
Gallion, Jason Goodson, Katharine Harris, Debbie Hobbs, Charlene Holtsford, Lisa Newcomb, Stephanie
Peavy, Sheryl Rosen, Gloria Simons, Debby Spain, Melissa Tubbs, Burton Ward, Bonnie Waters, Ashley
White, and Kellie Wise.
Art Auction 2016 opens for bidding this Saturday, February 13, at 10 A.M. The Silent Auction featuring
cocktails and hors d’oeuvres begins at 6:30 P.M. on Thursday, March 3. Tickets are $50 per person. On
Saturday, March 5, the Live Auction will consist of a cocktail party at 6 P.M. followed by dinner at 7:30
P.M., with the Live Auction of 25 premium works presented during dinner. Tickets for the Live Auction
are $175 per person and include a ticket to the Silent Auction.
