Warm Up with Laughter at “The Dixie Swim Club”
Five Southern women, whose friendships began
many years ago on their college swim team, set aside a
long weekend every August to recharge those relationships. Free from husbands, kids and jobs, they meet
at the same beach cottage on North Carolina’s Outer
Banks to catch up, laugh and meddle in each other’s
lives. “The Dixie Swim Club” focuses on four of those
weekends and spans a period of thirty-three years
Join this group of ladies as you think of a summer
vacation at the beach while we are in the cold winter
of NW Ohio! Men . . . It is not just a “chick flick” type
show. If you know a woman, this MIGHT help you
understand her a bit more! . . . or maybe not . . .
Rehearsals are proving this show will be hilarious and
extremely entertaining for adult age groups! No profanity, but children will not understand the humor.
Sheree, the team captain, desperately tries to
maintain her organized and ‘perfect’ life, and continues to be the group’s leader. Dinah, the wise-cracking
overachiever, is a career dynamo. But her victories in
the courtroom are in stark contrast to the frustrations

long as possible. She enjoys being married -- over and
over and over again. The self-deprecating and acerbic Vernadette, acutely aware of the dark cloud that hovers over her life,
has decided to just give in and embrace the chaos. And sweet Jeri Neal always sees the positive side of everything. Having
been a nun for many years, Jeri Neal has been protected from life’s seamier side.
Auditions placed the ideal cast members together to perform the charming characters in The Dixie Swim Club. Join cast
members Crystal Brooks, Carol Clark, Pam Diehl, Corrie Ehrhart, and Beth Henderson as they bring personalities to the
characters as directed by Dawn Patterson on February 5, 6 & 7 in this Huber production.

None of these events could have happed without the untiring work of many, many people. For several
weeks ahead of an event, rehearsal times and areas for rehearsal need to be set aside. As the event gets closer to
production, seating has to be planned, ticketing arranged, then down to the last week or so, sound and lighting
need to be set into place. The concessions stand has to be ready to go - candy, popcorn, workers schedule. When
the event is over the popcorn has to be swept up, restrooms checked, lights our and the doors locked. Yes it keep
many people continually planning ahead. The Gateway Chapel arrives on Sunday morning and the auditorium
needs to be ready. We really do appreciate it when we can have a full house, making all the above work worth the
time and effort put forth.

On December 5 following the Christmas Parade and Santa festivities at the library, Santa came to the Huber Opera
House for the drawing for the Buick Encore or the $25,000
cash. The winner was Bill Langschied. Bill lives in Ft. Wayne,
and is the administrator at Hickory Creek of Hicksville and
also serves as the Rotary president here in Hicksville. We
were happy with the project and wish to sincerely thank all
those who participated in the raffle.

with the Ballet Company. Thank you all for attending and your positive comments.
CHRISTMAS AT THE HUBER OPERA HOUSE
A beautifully decorated Huber Opera House for Christmas welcomed the Fort Wayne Ballet, the HHS
choir and band and the Antwerp Community Band for their Christmas performances.
Carolyn Gallup and Joyce Shadrach as co-chairpersons were ably assisted by the artistry and expertise of
the following volunteers: Carl and Kay Clark for the outside balcony lights; Peggy Vaughn for the Victorian tree
and wreaths in the lobby; the stage, balcony railings, and all the lighted trees in the auditorium by Linda Foster,
Judy McCalla, Joyce Hootman, Sheila Baker, Barb Kieffer-Sprow and Betty Figgins.
Many compliments have been received from patrons and visitors this season. Thank you all.
THANK YOU
JOHN BATTERSHELL
The front double doors of the
Huber Opera House received
new life recently when refinished
by John Battershell. The doors
are now better protected from
winter weather and summer
sun. Our loyal construction crew
members: Ralph Art, Jim Rath,
Lynn Haver, Rex Hurni, Zane
Zeedyk and Chris Weidenhamer
provided needed assistance with
the project. Their indispensable
support of Huber needs is greatly
appreciated. Thank you John and
construction crew.
