Welcome to the Coweta Public Library System’s 2011 One World, Many Stories
Summer Reading Program!
This year’s themes and programs are sure to bring enjoyment and lasting memories for children, teens and adults. Our programs are designed to uniquely connect with local communities. Children’s programs focus on developing and sustaining the love of reading and learning; teen programs create a blend of sustaining knowledge and learning new skills, while adult and family programs foster a
renewed interest in exploring their world as an individual or family. Now I must
admit; some of our programs are pure entertainment – It’s Summer Time ENJOY!

Join the Coweta County Library System Staff from the Central Library,
Grantville Branch, Powell Branch, and Senoia Branch as we embark on our
Annual Summer Reading Program and Kick-off Celebration. Books and BBQ
will include the following programs and presentations:
David Groff
Editor/Poet
Mama Koku—Storyteller
Around the World in Stories - Tales take the audience from Africa, to Europe, to Asia, The
Islands and The Americas.
Haywood Smith—Bestselling Author
Visit with the New York Times Bestselling Author, Haywood Smith, whose books include
"Queen Bee of Mimosa Branch," "The Red Hat Club and "Wedding Belles." The author
will speak about her life, her books, and the writing process. A book-signing will follow.
Mama Koku
Story Teller
David Groff—Editor/Poet
David Groff, an editor with more than 28 years experience in New York publishing, will
present: “Mastering the Publishing Business: A Roadmap for Writers,” focusing on the
subtopics “Reaching the Gatekeepers,” “Reaching Readers,” and “the Writer as
entrepreneur.”
One Hour Drummer—Drum Circle
One Hour Drummer is an interactive world percussion performances with up to 15 band
members. The program will included a wide variety of music styles from African to
Japanese STOMP styled drumming “URBAN TAIKO”.
Haywood Smith
Bestselling Author
Delbert Hewitt, Jr.—Comic Artist
Delbert, is a freelance artist, has completed work in acrylics, oils, watercolour, cross
hatching, black and white, sequential art, and character designs. The artist will present a
drawing workshop for teens.
Lee Bryan—Puppeteer
Travelin’ Tales—Timeless tales from India, China, and Native American Indian lore is
given new life through the magic of puppetry.
One Hour Drummer
Drum Circle
Self-Publishing Marketplace
Preschool Program—Teffeny Edmondson , children’s story teller, librarian, and
school media specialist, will tell stories and sing songs uniquely designed for
preschoolers.

Musician—Jimmy Bass has been a performing musician for over half of his life. Since his
first gig at a popular hometown club, he has played guitar and sang for weddings,
birthdays, charity events, concerts and public library events.
Multi-Cultural Crafts
Africa: In Africa, create an traditional Butterfly Mask.
Australia: In Australia, design a didgeridoo.
North America: In North America, construct a medicine pouch or totem pole.
South America: In South America, craft a rain stick.
Europe: In Europe, design a crown and shield.

Native and exotic snakes, turtles will
be available to observe and touch.
No venomous snakes will be present.

Best of the Best Blowout! Summer Reading Finale
We saved the best for last! On Saturday, July 30, 2011, the best performers,
crafts, and programs from our 2011 Summer Reading Program schedule
that you may have missed or just wanted to see again are available one
more time at the Coweta Public Library’s System 1st annual Best of the Best
Blowout. During the Blowout, grand prize winners and runner-ups will be
drawn for the children, young adult and adult reading programs. This event
will be held at the A. Mitchell Powell, Jr. Branch - 25 Hopital Road; Newnan,
