A REAL-WORLD TEST
Attention to every detail - it was envisioned in the innovative design and captured in engineering precision.
It can be seen in the sculpted lines and felt in the driver’s seat. The small things add up to results that matter.
Results that are recorded on balance sheets across corporate America and talked about over coffee on the road.
Constant innovation and attention to detail has led to one of the most comfortable and efficient trucks on the road.
To find how well we met your needs, we put the ProStar® to a real-world test — against its competitors. A test
conducted by an independent third party of trucking professionals.
The tests were conducted with the highest level of objectivity. Meticulous attention was paid to detail.
Measurements were taken from “actual built” vehicles. Specifications, as closely as possible, matched each
manufacturer’s equipment availability and compatibility parameters. And most importantly, in order to maintain
absolute consistency, measurements were performed in precisely the same manner across all models.
How do we stack up in the real world? Here’s your opportunity to find out for yourself.

COMPETITIVE SET - SKY-RISE
In real-world testing, ProStar® was compared cab-to-cab, axle-to-axle, powertrain-to-powertrain, measurement-to-measurement against three primary market competitors: the Freightliner Cascadia®, the Kenworth T680
and the Volvo VN 780.
Everything you essentially need to know about the trucks … their engines, transmissions, axles, suspensions, cab
sizes, visibility, and warranties … “is in the comparisons.”
Given the differences in design and equipment availability, no two competitive trucks on the road are absolutely
identical. But in order to guarantee an apples-to-apples comparison, the trucks included in our comparative guide
share matching specifications as closely as possible.
9
10
COMPETITIVE SET - HI-RISE
To be sure we addressed the entire competitive field,
we added mid-roof competitors to our analysis.
As was done with ProStar® Sky-Rise, Hi-Rise was
compared side-by-side with two of its primary market
competitors; the Freightliner Cascadia® XT and
Volvo VN 730. Although no two trucks are identical,
specifications were matched as closely as possible,
given differences in design and component availability.

AERODYNAMICS
Aerodynamics can contribute up to 50% to overall fuel economy.
ProStar® has been designed with many features to help minimize aerodynamic
drag and improve vehicle efficiency. Extensive computer modeling, wind
tunnel simulation, and on the road testing has helped International understand
and address properties that affect aerodynamic drag.
Fuel Efficiency and the Bottom Line
Extensive testing and continuous optimization will pay dividends over the
long haul. Even fractional improvements in efficiency can have a significant
effect on profitability. For example; a 1% increase in fuel economy at $3.85/
gallon, at 100,000 miles per year over 5 years, multiplied by an average fleet
size of 25 units can equate to over $60,000 in total savings.
Design Features
Smooth radius edges are a signature styling element that improves fuel
economy

As in all our measurement methods, the visibility ranging process remained absolutely
consistent across all measured vehicles.
CHASSIS
The standard reference position is 45" from horizontal plane of fuel pedal center
point to laser emission point in the vertical position, and 32" from center point of fuel
pedal aft to laser emission point in the horizontal plane. This represents a natural,
comfortable seating position for an average sized (5'10") person. The ranging pivots
about our reference position and projects at regular intervals as represented by the
noted variables. The point at which the projection becomes visible at ground level
represents the closest an object becomes visible to the driver, as seated in our
reference position.

Unsurpassed Driver Satisfaction
Hydraulic clutch pedal reduces noise, vibration and
harshness (NVH) and pedal effort by 20+ pounds
Cab air-over strut suspension is mounted outboard of
the frame rails minimizing cab sway at intersections
and in crosswinds, providing a superior ride — a
feature not offered by any of these competitors
INTERIOR AND SLEEPER
Measured interior noise levels were lower at most
tested engine speeds than other models
Driver Comfort
Seating utilizes scissors suspension, tuned to work in
harmony with cab and chassis suspension
Cast seating base provides excellent lateral stability
Optional MaxxPowerTM battery-powered HVAC —

CAB SIZE
CAB DESIGN
ProStar® was developed as a result of years of engineering and extensive research
– basically we wanted a vehicle that was easy to use and designed to provide
maximum comfort. The ProStar’s comfortable, quiet and ergonomic cab makes it
easy to recruit and retain drivers.
INTERIOR AND SLEEPER
One of the biggest factors to impact a driver’s comfort over the long haul is not just
cab size, but how big it feels — its spaciousness. One of the things that impacts
spaciousness is compartmentalized storage. Too little storage creates obvious
problems, while too much captured storage space can reduce the spaciousness of
the cab.
ProStar provides 150% more captured storage than previous ProStar models while
still maintaining a very spacious cab. Some competitive models also provide large
cabs, however poor placement of storage bins directly above driver and passenger
can create a cramped environment.
ProStar not only provides the driver with a very comfortable and spacious cab, but
also one that is extremely quiet and well insulated.
Cab Measurement Methodology
CHASSIS
All vehicle measurements were obtained by the same personnel, using the same
methods, at the same reference points throughout every cab. Measurements were
obtained with an extremely accurate digital range meter. Measurements were
rounded to the nearest .25” to account for material differences, manufacturing
tolerances and trim component textures.
Noise Level Methodology
31
POWERTRAIN
Measurements were obtained with a Type 1 sound level meter over a 10-second
duration at each engine speed. Sound level meter was positioned 1 meter
above ground level and 1 meter forward of grille during exterior measurements.
Measurements were conducted with a warm engine, at least 50’ from any
reflective surface, with wind speeds below 12 mph. Engine fans and HVAC
systems were off when possible.

Driver Comfort
Cab ergonomics is a science which depends on data.
Navistar is one of the only truck OEMs that has developed a
proprietary database by actually measuring drivers.
Over 2000 drivers were measured during the design of the
ProStar® to ensure the proper location of cab controls,
switches, gauges and pedestal locations
This research has yielded an extremely ergonomic and
functional cab for virtually any driver
Seat Travel and Positioning
Seat Travel – Horizontal
Seat Travel – Vertical
Maximum Leg Room A
Average Leg Room*
Maximum Belly Room B
Vertical seat travel is also very competitive and superior to
several of these competitors
Satisfactory headroom and legroom depend on seat
positioning; ProStar offers a great deal of both and more of
both than most of these competitors

Better Fuel Economy.
*ISX15 for Heavy Duty Truck (2013), CumminsEngines.com
Better At Meeting Your Needs.
The ISX15 delivers unsurpassed fuel economy
for the ProStar, with ratings from 450-550 hp over
the entire range of SmartTorque rated engines.
SmartTorque ratings combine the best of both
worlds by adding 200 lb-ft of extra torque in
the top two gears, so a ProStar can make it up
steep grades with higher road speeds and fewer
downshifts.
67
POWERTRAIN
Single High-Capacity Electronic Control
Module (ECM) – A single ECM manages
the engine and aftertreatment system for
optimum performance and fuel efficiency.
Key factors in achieving 2 percent better fuel
economy for 2013 are the introduction of a
highly efficient water pump and fuel pump, along
with optimized combustion efficiency and fewer
active aftertreatment regenerations. Reducing
parasitic loads on the engine means that more
of the energy generated from every drop of fuel
goes to the drive wheels.
CHASSIS

event common in many diesel engines
Twin Sequential Turbochargers
Reduced shifting at lower speeds
Reduced downshifting
Instantaneous power at vehicle launch
Dedicated cooling channels within the block

* Intervals based on OE-defined Long-haul service with normal duty cycle. Recommended service intervals for Navistar engines are directly related to severity of duty and fuel economy achieved.
Light duty, high fuel economy applications can result in longer change intervals. Please refer to Engine Operators Manual for complete details.
** Engine oil drain intervals on vehicles equipped with a centrifuge filter range from 18,000 – 40,000 miles. Drain intervals without centrifuge filters are 15,000 – 35,000 miles.
