PASTOR’S MESSAGE
Dear parishioners of Our Lady of Peace Parish,
"Abide", we hear this verb seven times in today's Gospel of St. John. It is the most important that we should
abide in Jesus in order to have life. In the Second Reading, St. John used the verb "abide" three times when he
talks about God's commandment that is "we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one
another" (1 Jn. 23)
Abide can be in many forms: branches and vine, members of a body and body. The closest form of abiding is
to become one flesh and one body. Jesus clearly talks
about this form of abiding: "Very truly, I tell you, unless
you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink his blood
you have no life in You...Those who eat my flesh and
drink my blood abide in me and I in them." (Jn 6.53-56)
How could we eat His flesh and drink his blood? The
Eucharist makes it possible. Only abiding in Jesus can
make us love one another perfectly.
All of us should appreciate the gift of the Eucharist and
come to enjoy it for eternal life, abiding in Jesus and in
one another. Ultimately, we all abide in God who is the
source of all lives. The Eucharist is the very center of
the Catholic faith.
Sincerely yours in Christ Fr. Peter Thang Nguyen
