National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Reisha Adams British Soprano Reisha Adams trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama and studies with Janet Price. Roles include Naiad (Cover) Ariadne auf Naxos at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Micaela Carmen for Riverside Opera and Ludovina (Cover) The Yellow Sofa with Glyndebourne Touring Opera. Reisha was awarded the First prize for Most Outstanding Musicianship in The Ian Stoutzker Prize and Highest Achiever on the MA Opera Performance Course at RWCMD in the MA Opera Prize. Reisha is supported by the Glyndebourne New Generation Programme, The Arts Council of Wales, a Sybil Tutton Award administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund, and Christopher Ball. Stephen Aviss British Tenor Stephen Aviss trained at the Royal Academy of Music and studies with Philip Doghan. Roles include Alfredo La Traviata for Iford Arts and Lenski Eugene Onegin for RAM Opera. Stephen was the recipient of both the Rhoda Jones Roberts Scholarship and the Connell Grabowsky Prize from the Royal Academy of Music. Stephen is supported by a scholarship from UNUM, Il Circolo (an Italian cultural charity) and the Josephine Baker Trust. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Pedro Beriso Jennifer Davis Spanish Répétiteur Pedro Beriso trained in Orchestral Conducting at ESMuC and studies conducting with Jordi Mora. Irish Lyric Soprano Jennifer Davis trained at DIT’s Conservatory of Music and Drama, Dublin and studies with Colette McGahon-Tosh. Performances include Il Turco in Italia 2013 at Gran Teatre del Liceu, Mozart Academy 2012 at Festival d'Aix-en-Provence and The Beggar's Opera 2013 at the European Opera Center with Liverpool Royal Philharmonic Orchestra. Roles include Countess Le Nozze di Figaro with Lyric Opera Productions, Governess The Turn of the Screw at DIT’s Conservatory of Music and Drama and Susanna Le Nozze di Figaro for Glasthule Opera, Dublin. Pedro is supported by the Royal Opera House and by the Amar-Franses & Foster-Jenkins Trust. Jennifer is supported by English National Opera, The Bernadette Greevy Bursary provided by the National Concert Hall, Dublin and a Sybil Tutton Award administered by the Musicians Benevolent Fund. Jennifer won 1st prize in the best singer category at Gervase Elwes, Feis Ceoil Dublin and reached the semi-final of the Opera Competition at the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Competition, Vienna. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Katie Grosset Lucy Hall Scottish Mezzo Katie Grosset trained at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Operastudio Vlaanderen in Belgium and as an Emerging Artist at Scottish Opera. She has recently started studying with Catherine Wyn-Rogers. British Soprano Lucy Hall trained at Guildhall school of Music and Drama and studies with Yvonne Kenny. Roles include Zerlina (cover) Don Giovanni, Edith Pirates of Penzance, Flora and Annina La traviata, Second Lady (cover) Magic Flute, Boletta (cover) Lady from the Sea with Scottish Opera. She also performed on the Scottish Opera Highlights tour, and Olga Eugene Onegin with Opera Bohemia in the Edinburgh Festival. Katie has performed chorus, cover and small roles for Garsington Opera and the Tête à Tête Opera Festival. Katie is supported by Scottish Opera, Creative Scotland Artists’ Bursary, Nicholas Boas Trust, Michael and Yvonne Ward, The Winship Foundation, The Hope Scott Trust, The South Square Trust, The Robertson Trust, The Scottish International Education Trust and Christopher Ball. Roles include Sandrina La Finta Giardiniera for Festival D'Aix en Provence Tour at Theatre du Luxembourg and Opera Toulon, Flora Turn of the Screw with the London Symphony Orchestra and Barbarina Le Nozze di Figaro at Festival d'Aix en Provence. Lucy was awarded the Song Prize in the National Mozart Singing Competition and 1st prize at the Oxford Lieder Young Artists Platform 2012. Lucy is supported by Opera North, and by a Scholarship from the Lionel Anthony Charitable Trust. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Tim Hawken British Répétiteur Tim Hawken studied viola at the Royal Northern College of Music and with singing teachers including Colin Iveson and Jeffrey Lawton. Engagements include Assistant Staff Pianist in the vocal department of the Royal Northern College of Music and Tenor Lay Clerk at Christ Church Cathedral in Oxford. Sarah-Jane Lewis British Soprano Sarah–Jane Lewis trained at the Royal Academy of Music and studies with Ryland Davies. Sarah–Jane was awarded first prize in the Richard Lewis Prize 2012. In 2013 she was awarded first prize in the Ludmilla Andrew Russian Song Prize. Tim was awarded a scholarship in piano accompaniment whilst at the Royal Northern College of Music. Tim is supported by the Foundation for Sport & the Arts, and the Musicians Benevolent Fund. Sarah–Jane is supported by a scholarship from the Nicholas John Trust, and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Frederick Long Adam Marsden British Bass-Baritone, Frederick Long trained at the Royal Academy of Music and studies with Mark Wildman. British Baritone Adam Marsden trained at the Royal Northern College of Music and the Royal Academy of Music and studies under Mark Wildman. Roles include The Lackey Ariadne auf Naxos at Glyndebourne Festival Opera, Medeiros in The Yellow Sofa with Glyndebourne on Tour and Sarastro The Magic Flute at the Royal Academy Opera. Roles include James Meridith Kommilitonen, Sprecher Die Zauberflote and Somarone Beatrice et Benedict all for Royal Academy Opera. Adam was awarded 2nd prize for the Richard Lewis Award. Frederick is supported by Glyndebourne New Generation Programme, a Donald A Anderson Award, an Allcard Award administered through the Worshipful Company of Musicians, and a Sybil Tutton Award administered through the Musicians Benevolent Fund. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Ben McAteer Iain Milne Northern Irish Baritone, Ben McAteer trained at Guildhall School of Music & Drama. Scottish Tenor Iain Milne trained at the Royal Academy of Music and studies with Dr Neil Mackie. Roles include Sharpless Madama Butterfly with Opera Holland Park (Christine Collins Young Artist), Il Conte Le Nozze di Figaro at Guildhall School of Music & Drama and Father Hansel and Gretel for Clonter Opera. Roles include Sandy and Officer 1 The Lighthouse at Royal Academy Opera and Tamino The Magic Flute and Tito La Clemenza Di Tito both with Hampstead Garden Opera. Ben won Northern Ireland Opera Young Artist Competition in 2011 and was a runner up in the Kathleen Ferrier Awards 2012. Ben is supported by Welsh National Opera, an Eileen Goddard Scholarship from the Amar-Franses & Foster -Jenkins Trust, and a Sybil Tutton Award administered through the Musicians Benevolent Fund. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Samantha Price Ross Ramgobin Welsh Mezzo Soprano Samantha Price trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music & Drama and studies with Janet Price. British Baritone Ross Ramgobin trained at Royal Academy of Music and studies with Glenville Hargreaves. Roles include Third Gentleman Julietta with English National Opera, Cherubino Le Nozze di Figaro at RWCMD and Nancy Albert Herring (scenes) for Samling. Roles include Arasse Siroe Re di Persia with Internationale Händel-Festspiele Göttingen and Eugene Onegin Eugene Onegin and Papageno Die Zauberflöte both at the Royal Academy Opera. Samantha was awarded the Promising Singer Prize in the Dean & Chadlington Singing Competition and the Aneurin Davies Memorial Prize for Welsh song in the RWCMD Vocal competitions. Samantha is supported by English National Opera, an Advanced Study Award in Music from the Arts Council of Wales, the Robert Vivian Memorial Trust and by Christopher Ball. Ross was a finalist in the Hampshire Singing competition and awarded the Tom Hammond Opera Prize in the Royal Academy of Music Prizes. National Opera Studio Trainees 2013-2014 Andri Björn Róbertsson Marek Ruszczynski Icelandic Bass-Baritone, Andri Björn Róbertsson trained at Söngskólinn í Reykjavík, Royal Academy of Music and has studied with Ólöf Kolbrún Harðardóttir and Mark Wildman. Polish Répétiteur Marek Ruszczynski trained at the Royal Academy of Music and Guildhall School of Music and Drama and studies with Ronan O’Hora. Roles include Gremin Eugene Onegin and Arthur and Officer 3 The Lighthouse both for Royal Academy Opera and Sarastro Die Zauberflöte with Garsington Emerging Artists. Marek was awarded the Piano Prize at the Nadia and Lily Boulanger International Voice-Piano Competition Paris in 2011 and Best Accompanist Gold Medal GSMD. Andri was awarded 1st Prize, Schubert Prize and audience prize at The International Mozart Singing Competition and was nominated as Brightest hope in Classical Music and Jazz at The Icelandic Music Awards. Engagements include répétiteur and harpsichord for La Serva Padrona, Pergolesi and as répétiteur for Eugene Onegin both at the Royal Academy of Music. Maya was awarded the Elena Gerhardt Accompanists’ prize Elena Gerhardt Lieder prize and Marjorie Thomas Award at the Royal Academy of Music and First prize at the North London Piano School Festival. Maya is supported by a Nelly Groner Bursary.
