Wow!! Broadstone Physiotherapy & Hydrotherapy
is celebrating its tenth anniversary. Opened in
2004 by Practice Principal Fiona Collier and
husband Chris – over the last ten years it has
grown from strength to strength and today is
proud to offer a state of the art hydrotherapy
pool with disabled friendly access and changing
facilities, electric hoists for special care patients,
treatment rooms and on site parking.
Hydrotherapy, also known as aquatic therapy, is the
treatment of a wide range of conditions in a special
heated pool.
The hydrotherapy pool, one of a few in the area, is
sterilised with Ultra Violet light – so no nasty chlorine
smell and heated to a very comfortable 35C degrees.
The warmth of the water relaxes your muscles and
decreases pain and the buoyancy reduces stress on
the joints – the natural resistance of the water helps
to strengthen your weakened muscles.
Fiona says: “People of all ages enjoy the benefits of
the hydrotherapy pool. William Canby aged 101, is a
regular aquatherapy patient and demonstrates that
for super seniors gentle exercise can indeed help
improve muscle tone and joint mobility”. We take

people both on an individual basis and offer classes to
suit small groups.
Hydrotherapy is ideal for patients immediately pre
and post surgical operation, those with back injuries
or who suffer from severe sport injuries. Many care
homes also hire the facility for their clients.
The purpose-built hydrotherapy building has been

2014 (a Physiotherapy award) – it was also runner
up in the Energy Efficiency Award category at the
prestigious 2014 UK Pool and Spa awards.
These high acclaims reward the clever use of
technology that has gone into creating a very energy
efficient building. Chris explained: “Where possible,
we capture and recycle energy back into the system,
we make every effort not to lose any heat. The pool
itself is especially insulated and an air source heat
pump has been installed to warm the water.”
Fiona Collier has worked in the Poole area since 1980,
specialising in musculoskeletal problems. Fiona says:
“When Louise and I started I couldn’t have imagined
where the practice would be 10 years on. It’s a delight
to think that I’ve got such loyal patients, many have
been with me for a long time”.
