Annual Conference

Welcome!
The Canine Hydrotherapy Association would like to welcome you to join
our annual conference and AGM on Sunday April 12th at Moulton
College, Northampton.
The day's events offer knowledge on key hydrotherapy principles,
emerging technology as well as talks from leading customer service and
marketing experts to increase the potential of your therapy business.
Registration starts at 8.45am the seminar closes at 16.30.
The CHA AGM will follow from 16.30-17.30pm and is open to members
only.
There will be five speakers throughout the day as well as various trade
stands and the chance to talk to CHA board members. Refreshments
are included with the option to book accommodation for the Saturday
night.

---------------------------------------------------Barbara Houlding - The pivotal role of CPD for the
professional Hydrotherapist
Barbara is a small animal rehabilitation therapist, clinical educator and
lecturer and is the Co-Course Director of the Nottingham Veterinary
School's PgCert in Small Animal Rehabilitation.
She works pro-actively in education, training and clinical practice to
promote small animal health-care as part of an extensive range of
rehabilitation therapies including aquatic and hydrotherapy.
The Vet School PGCert in Small Animal Rehabilitation is the only UK
accredited university course that delivers all aspects of hydrotherapy at
level 7. As Principal Practitioner at K9HS, Barbara delivers the level 3
ABC Awards in hydrotherapy alongside CPD courses and training
placements. Small animal hydrotherapy has evolved significantly in the
last 2 years and current practice effectively links a sound base of
science to clinical practice.

Galen - An opportunity to discuss , with the aid of case studies,
how myotherapy and remedial exercise techniques can positively affect
heeling, compensatory issues, postural imbalance and mechanical
loading problems when muscular impairment occurs.
In 2002 Julia established the Galen Therapy Centre in West Sussex,
where she began treating dogs referred to her from local veterinary
practices. The Galen Therapy Centre Training Limited was founded in
2006 and subsequently established the first Canine Myotherapy Diploma
course. Since 2006 hundreds of students have completed the course
and are now working as self-employed Myotherapists.
Julia has authored three books published through Manson Publishing
and Hubble and Hattie. Julia has also produced two DVD’s on the
subject of Myotherapy and writes monthly articles for Dog World
magazine. Julia’s reputation extends throughout the UK and
internationally and she is frequently invited to speak/teach at many
canine professional events (one such invitation was from the world
renowned Canine Behaviourist Turid Rugaas from Norway). Julia
receives regular invitations to speak at events held by the Kennel Club.
Julia is considered an expert and leader in her field both in the UK and
worldwide. This is reflected in the number of international invitations to
both speak and teach and international students that enrol on the
course.
She has also been commissioned to write two additional books, one for
a previous publisher and an additional for a new one; to be written in
collaboration with another distinguished author.

Bex Atherton & Sam Wallace –Hydrotherapy;
Tricks of the Trade- member’s queries answered
In this interactive workshop you will have the opportunity to develop
skills on how to improve your hydrotherapy service. We will be looking at
the questions many of you may have such as;
Terminology, how do I conduct an initial assessment? What are the
differences to the patient when using a flotation coat vs harness?
Examples of case studies as well as the use of technology to aid your
sessions and feedback to vets
Bex has been running her busy hydrotherapy centre for nearly 8 years.
As well as the Level 3 cert, she is also a qualified RVN and holds the
Advanced Certificate in Veterinary Physiotherapy. Bex offers a bespoke
service incorporating hydrotherapy with water based physiotherapy as
well as helping owners structure a home exercise plan when
appropriate. She now works only with a water treadmill, and is always
looking for innovative ways to use aids within the treadmill to support
patients in her care.
Sam is a Level 3 qualified hydrotherapist who works alongside her Mum
at their Hydrotherapy Centre in Derbyshire which they set up over 10
years ago. They also have 2 ACPAT Physiotherapists and a veterinary
Acupuncturist who compliment their rehabilitation team. Currently the
centre consists of a hydrotherapy pool and underwater treadmill.

How to Get to Moulton College
By Road
The College is situated in the village of Moulton, which is 5 miles from
the centre of Northampton. Moulton can be reached either by the A43
Northampton to Kettering Road or from the A508 Northampton to Market
Harborough Road. In either case, avoid signs for Moulton Park as this is
an industrial estate.
By Rail
Rail users may travel to nearby Northampton Station (15 minutes by
taxi), which is a main line station with regular services to London,
Birmingham and elsewhere in the UK.
