Special Message
Welcome to our December Newsletter. First, I want to say thank you to all of our
loyal customers that have supported us this past year. Without you, we would not
be able to create the designs, tutorials and events that you all love!
2012 has been a very exciting year! We introduced our newest Embroidery Clubs;
Quilting and VIP that go along with our existing Diamond and Platinum Clubs.
With these new clubs, our hope is to give you even more choices for your embroidery needs and
your budget. Anita Goodesign Events have gone even further with our new Anita’s Embroidery
Workshop. This gives you, a great way to attend an embroidery technique class at your local
Anita Goodesign Dealer. We also introduced a brand new Premium Edition Collection with
the release of “Art Quilts”. So you can see, we are always striving to give you more options, more
embroidery designs and more embroidery events!
Next year we will continue the trend of more events, more quilting projects, and more trunk
shows at your local dealer as well as new special editions, and exciting contests. We have
continued to grow by adding a new artist and marketing director. With that growth we will
continue to offer beautiful embroidery designs and specials online through our social media
presence. So stay tuned for 2013... it is going to be awesome!

“Free Standing Lace”
Diamond Club
If you look at any
fashion or home
decorating magazine
these days you will
notice that the
pages are full of
freestanding lace
embroidery.
The lace is being
made into dresses,
skirts, and shirts,
placed on purses
and even shoes. They
say that everything
goes in circles and
that what once
was vintage is now
new. With that in
mind I decided to design this collection titled Free
Standing Lace. This collection contains large
designs as well as small designs that are stitched on
stabilizer, rinsed and then sewn on garments. Free
standing lace is very simple to embroider since it is
only one color and stitched on only stabilizer.
“Spring Blossoms”
Mini Mix & Match/ Quilting Club
Sometimes
we are very
inspired by
fabric and color.
When I saw
this fat quarter
bundle in all of
these shades of
blue, I knew it
would be perfect
for a collection
of flowers. These
designs are very
easy to stitch.
They don’t
have applique
or any special
technique and they all use only three colors
of blue thread. Of course they would be great
in any other color as well. The collection
contains 10 different flower blocks in 4 sizes
each, 2 transitional blocks and 10 isolated
flowers in 2 sizes each.

“Designer Animals”
Diamond Club
Modern animal
sculptors inspired
this collection when
creating these designs.
We wanted to create
tonal animals with
unique contours and
stitching. We used
applique in all of these
designs and 3 colors of
thread. We also added
batting behind the
applique for a unique
puffy look. We stitched
the designs on black
linen tea towels with a
cotton and grosgrain
ribbon trim.
“Victorian Quilt”
Mix & Match/ Quilting Club
Many of you love
all things Victorian
so we designed 20
different Victorian
theme quilt blocks!
There are hats,
cameos, birdcages,
roses, fans, perfume
bottles and much
more! Each of the
designs is framed in
a folded fabric block
with a beautiful
stippled background.
All of the designs
are also included as
individual designs
without the block.
There are also multiple border designs and
choices for lots of different quilt options. The best
part about this collection is that you can combine
it with other Anita Goodesign collections! This
collection is part of the “Mix and Match” quilt
line. All of the design collections that are in the
“Mix and Match” line come with 5”, 6”, 7” and 8”
blocks and are fully interchangeable.

Fashion Embroidery Techniques
Here at Anita Goodesign we are always looking for the latest trends in the world of
embroidery. We have noticed that embroidery on clothing is making a come back!
So, that inspired us to give you some tips for embroidering on garments. We also
have a product line titled Anita Goodesign Fashion Collections. Go to our website
and take a look at all of our beautiful fashion collections. These collections were
designed with fashion clothing in mind and the designs were all tested on garments
to guarantee perfect embroidery results.
Here are some of our fashion rules and tips.
1. Start with a quality garment
The better the garment, the better your end result will be. Cheap clothing generally
doesn’t have good sewing techniques to begin with and are made using cheaper grades of
fabric which don’t hold embroidery well.
2. Don’t be afraid to use your seam ripper!
A lot of the techniques we use will require you to open up seams and literally take your
garment apart. You have an embroidery machine that costs thousand of dollars don’t be
afraid to rip apart a $50.00 pair of jeans. Besides, ripping it apart is easy, its putting it back
together that’s tough!
3. Experiment!
Creating your own custom garment will require experimenting with different fabrics and
embellishing techniques. Don’t be afraid to try something new.

Creating Free Standing Embroideries
You all know that hooping
garments can be difficult
and sometimes impossible.
Imagine trying to align and
hoop 30 different designs
on a pair of jeans. Sound
hard? It is. Instead of all of
those hoopings we actually
embroidered all of the flowers
on organza, cut them out and
then sewed them to the jeans.
The end result is extremely
pleasing, the designs seem
to float and they don’t cause
the fabric to ripple or pucker.
Since they don’t embroider into the weave of the fabric they also don’t restrict the movement.
Designs done this way look great on jeans or any project you can’t hoop like shoes or hats!
Any design that is solid will work using this technique.
To begin simply embroider the designs on organza with wash-away stabilizer underneath the
organza. The stabilizer will wash away when you are finished with the project. Leave about
an inch between each flower. The key is to choose the proper design. Any of the more simple
roses will work fine, just avoid any of the jumbo designs or designs with long vines extending
from them. We suggest embroidering a lot of them, once you see how easy this technique is you
will want to keep adding flowers. For this project we used champagne colored organza which is
neutral. Avoid dark colors of organza unless you are working on a dark garment.
Once you are done stitching out the designs carefully trim away any excess organza. After the
organza is trimmed away use a hot knife to seal the edges. The hot knife will cause any excess
organza to melt away. Always use caution when using a hot knife!

Arranging Free Standing Embroideries
Below is a pair of jeans that we created using the designs from Designer Roses. This example
demonstrates how to arrange free standing embroideries. The only thing embroidered in the hoop
are the scrolls. The first step is to lay out and pin the scrolls in place. After they are pinned in
place lay out the actual organza roses that you created. We arranged our designs so they are flat
across the bottom with a curve going up the leg. After you have an idea of your layout remove the
roses and embroider your jeans. We used tear-away stabilizer on the scrolls.

Stitching Down Free Standing Embroideries
Once you have your arrangement of free standing embroideries you need to stitch them down. We
actually use invisible thread and a free motion stitch to tack the roses in place. The illustration
below shows the technique using a white flower with red thread. The picture is for a technique
representation only. When you use the invisible thread it will be... invisible. The bottom picture
shows the inside of the jeans, we know you wanted a peak!
