Profile
The Inabata Group’s Mission is to contribute to the development
of society based on the humanitarian spirit of “ai (love)” and “kei
(respect),” which have been the two core values for the company
since its inception. Our Vision is: “to continually evolve, serving
clients and society, through global operations and meeting their
changing needs.”
The forerunner of the Inabata Group was established in Kyoto, in
1890, as an importer and seller of synthetic dyes. Keeping the
chemicals business as its core activity, Inabata has brought over
the expansion into such product areas as electronic materials,
housing materials, and food. Our history of business expansion
has also been a process of developing capabilities in such
functions as market development, manufacturing/processing,
distribution, and financing.
Today, the Inabata Group operates more than 60 sites in 17
countries outside of Japan, and overseas sales account for over
50% of consolidated net sales. With our broad and extensive
global network and the specialized capabilities, we will continue to
provide premium solutions to our clients. We firmly believe that
this is our duty, and that it will lead us toward the realization of our
Vision.
We look forward to your ongoing support and encouragement over
the coming years.

In 1890, Inabata originally started as an importer of dye,
dyeing technology, and dyeing and weaving machines. Since
that time, Inabata has expanded its business domain, with a
primary focus on the chemicals business. The machine
division, which moved from dyeing and weaving machines to
vacuum devices, would later become the IT & Electronics
Division which is involved in the sale of Liquid Crystal Display
(LCD) materials and electronic components. The Plastics
Division, originally created from the Chemicals Division,
expanded business development overseas while strengthening processing operations. The company’s Housing Materials
Division, which started with sales of adhesives for plywood
and advanced in the housing material and carpentry industry,
is now the Housing & Eco Materials Division. It is engaged in
the sale of home building materials, housing equipment, and
other similar products. Sale of corn starch by the Chemicals
Division provided Inabata the opportunity to also advance into
the food industry. Later, the Food Division was combined with
the life science business of the Chemicals Division, resulting in
the creation of the Life Industry Division.

Inabata's connection with France goes back to the latter half of the nineteenth century when the founder Katsutaro Inabata was sent to the country
to study dyeing technique. After returning to Japan, Katsutaro set up a
business to import dyestuffs and dyeing machinery from France. Katsutaro
was also highly committed to cultural exchange between Japan and
France.
Currently Inabata supports the Académie de Musique Française de Kyoto
hosted by the Institut français du Japon-Kansai, as well as activities of the
Société franco-japonaise d’Osaka, to promote ties between the two countries.

In 1994, the year following the anniversary of 450 years of harmonious
relations between Japan and Portugal, Katsuo Inabata, Counselor (then
President) and Honorary Portuguese Consul in Osaka, set up the Sociedade Luso-Nipónica de Osaka at the request of the Portuguese Embassy
in Japan. In addition to Portuguese classes, the Society organizes multifaceted events throughout the year, including workshops on Portuguese
culture and history, and opportunities to appreciate “fado,” the country’s
ethnic music. Inabata & Co., Ltd. is committed to promote cultural
exchange between the two countries.

It was way back in 1890 that Katsutaro Inabata founded Inabata Senryoten, the predecessor of Inabata
& Co., Ltd., after studying what was then the world’s most advanced dye technology in France. The IK
logo deriving from his initials was born at the same time.
Although the color and shape may have changed with the times, IK has always been familiar to the public
as the symbol of our company.
Along with his philosophy of love (ai: “ I ”) and respect (kei: “K”) for people, today’s Inabata Group carries
on the borderless dynamism and entrepreneurial spirit of our founder.
