We are pleased to announce that, effective immediately, Glenn Clark has been appointed to the role
of Acting Associate Vice President for Information Technology/Chief Information Officer.
Glenn has been with the University since May 2006 and was most recently the Senior Director of
Information Technology/Chief Information Security Officer. Glenn has a Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Management from Providence College and an MBA from Bryant University. In addition, Glenn holds certifications in CISCO, Microsoft, IT Security and Project Management. Glenn has also served as an Adjunct Faculty member over the past 15 years at Bryant University, CCRI and Salve.
Please join us in congratulating Glenn and wishing him all the best in his new role.

BENEFIT OPEN ENROLLMENT
Benefit Open enrollment is Oct.17 through Nov.15 for changes effective Jan. 1, 2017. A separate
Open Enrollment notice will be issued in mid-October.
For 2017, the University will once again contribute $500 to an individual HSA and $1,000 to individual-plus-one and family HSAs. (Half the amount will be funded in January and half in July 2017.)

free workshop on Conflict Management!

Conflict is an inevitable and important human process. It can produce negative, destructive results,
or it can produce positive, creative results. This training prepares attendees to approach workplace
conflict seeking win/win solutions. It includes an exploration of common misunderstandings and distortions that contribute to a competitive, rather than cooperative approach to conflict. Assertiveness
concepts, and techniques critical to effective conflict management, will be reviewed.
Program Objectives:
▪ Perceive workplace conflict as something to approach rather than avoid
▪ Acquire practical verbal techniques to improve conflict management effectiveness

October IT Tech Workshops
Tech Tuesdays
Learn new programs and update skills on old favorites! September will be Office365 month. Look in more detail at some of the new programs offered in this completely online suite.. Classes meet in McKillop Computer
Lab 005, from 1-2pm.
Tuesday, October 18th – Outlook Workshop. This one-hour workshop is designed to look at the basic features of Outlook. Designed for new employees (faculty & staff) and students who are new to the full desktop
Outlook application. Also a great intro to the new Office 216 suite Salve is shifting to.
Tuesday, October 25th – Excel. This one-hour workshop is designed to look at the basic features of Excel
and take individual questions on Excel. Designed mainly for new employees (faculty & staff) and other community members who are new to Excel.
Office365 Thursdays
Become acquainted with the new Salve cloud based Office suite. We will look at some familiar programs (like
mail, Word, and Excel), and see what’s new, including Sway, Yammer, Delve, and OneDrive. Harness the
power of the cloud to collaborate with others and extend your reach! All Office 365 classes will be held in
McKillop Computer Lab 006, from 1-2 PM.

Microsoft Office Certification is Back!
Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS) certification is the premier credential chosen by individuals seeking to validate their skills and advance their careers. Office is a powerful service designed to unleash the best ideas,
get things done and stay connected on the go. MOS shows the world that you have the skills to tap the full
features and functionality of Office.
Outlook 2016 - Learn how to use all the cool features of this powerful program! As a personal information
manager available as a part of the Microsoft Office suite, it includes a calendar, task manager, contact manager, note taking, journal, and web browser, in addition to its email system.
This certification program meets for 5 Wednesday classes from 10-11am on 10/19, 10/26, 11/2, 11/9 and
11/16 in McKillop Computer Lab 006.
Word 2016 – One of the cornerstones of Office 2016, Word Core certification will induce you to features that
you never knew existed. We will also cover some of the skills you may have heard about, but never used.
This certification program meets for 5 Friday classes from 10-11am on 10/21, 10/28, 11/4, 11/11 and 11/18
in McKillop Computer Lab 006.
Coming in November! Office 2016 individual program workshops, including Word, OneNote, and
PowerPoint. Certification in Excel and PowerPoint.

Wellness Classes for Faculty and Staff
Human Resources is pleased to announce a new lunch time Pilates
class for Staff/Faculty with instructor Remy Aull from Aull Pilates and
Movement.
This class is designed to recharge and energize you in the middle of your workday. The focus will
be on core strengthening, postural alignment, lengthening tight muscles and toning the entire body.
Each week Remy will build upon the prior week to help improve balance, coordination and overall
fitness.
Wednesdays from 12:30 to 1:15pm in the Rodgers Rec. Aerobics Room 039
Cost: $12 to drop in - last class is Nov. 16

Key Facts About Seasonal Flu Vaccine
When should I get vaccinated?
Flu vaccination should begin soon after vaccine becomes available, ideally by October. However, as
long as flu viruses are circulating, vaccination should continue to be offered throughout the flu season, even in January or later. While seasonal influenza outbreaks can happen as early as October,
during most seasons influenza activity peaks in January or later. Since it takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body that protect against influenza virus infection, it is
best that people get vaccinated so they are protected before influenza begins spreading in their
community.
Why do I need a flu vaccine every year?
A flu vaccine is needed every season for two reasons. First, the body’s immune response from vaccination declines over time, so an annual vaccine is needed for optimal protection. Second, because
flu viruses are constantly changing, the formulation of the flu vaccine is reviewed each year and
sometimes updated to keep up with changing flu viruses. For the best protection, everyone 6
months and older should get vaccinated annually.
Does flu vaccine work right away?
No. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against influenza virus infection. That’s why it’s better to get vaccinated early in the fall, before the flu season really gets under way.
Can the flu vaccine give me the flu?
No, a flu vaccine cannot cause flu illness. Flu vaccines that are administered with a needle are currently made in two ways: the vaccine is made either with a) flu vaccine viruses that have been
‘inactivated’ and are therefore not infectious, or b) with no flu vaccine viruses at all (which is the
case for recombinant influenza vaccine). The nasal spray flu vaccine does contain live viruses.
However, the viruses are attenuated (weakened), and therefore cannot cause flu illness.

Please be aware that any gifts, prizes and awards given to employees by Salve, will be included in
the recipient's gross income, if the gift is paid for by the university (either directly or indirectly). If the
recipient is a member of university faculty, staff, student employee, the gift, prize or award is considered supplemental wages and must be processed through the Payroll system with appropriate federal, state, city and FICA/Medicare taxes withheld. The gift, prize or award is then included in the
recipient's Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement.
