The name Julep comes from the drink, mint julep, which originated in the 6RXWKHUQ8QLWHG6WDWHVDVGLGWKHFRPSDQ\¶VRZQHU.LUVWHQ6KDUS:HIHOWWKH
classy, sweet nature of the mint julep accurately reflected the style of tile we produce. Also, since mint is green, we thought it appropriate considering the environmentally friendly process we use to make our tile. This is achieved in several ways: SINGLE FIRING Rather than manufacturing tile with two firings²a bisque firing followed by a glaze firing²Julep Tile achieves this in a single firing. This cuts the energy used (not to mention the labor of loading and unloading) in half. MID-­RANGE FIRING TEMPERATURE Our tiles are fired to cone 6 (2232 °F) rather than cone 10 (2345 °F). While not a huge difference in temperature, the extra energy needed to reach that higher temperature and wear on the kiln incurred is considerable. MADE TO ORDER Each order of Julep Tile is made to fit the space where it will be installed. This allows for a very custom look while minimizing excess tile left over after the project is complete. crazing, is a natural process for this particular glaze and is to be expected. · MAINTENANCE: We highly recommend sealing all installed tile with silicone-­based sealant. Crackle glazes and glazes with codes EHJLQQLQJLQ³&/´ should be sealed once a year as the cracks in the glaze will continue to develop. Some wearing and scratching of any glaze surface over time is expected. Do not use an abrasive scouring pad when cleaning the tile.
