The Digital Workflow at CINRAM
Guidelines for data generation and delivery
Page 1
Preface
Thank you for taking the time to read these guidelines.
These guidelines contain details of all the compulsory standards and other information you will need to ensure
a trouble-free processing of your data.
Our Kodak Prinergy Workflow requires all data to be processed in PDF format. It is therefore also advisable for
clients using our services to supply high-resolution PDF files.
It is of course still possible to supply open-format data, which will then be converted
by our Preflight team into ready-for-press PDFs. If you need any help before sending data please contact our
preflight coordinators. You will find the contact details on page 15.
We hope you enjoy reading this document and wish you every success with your projects.

• The files must have a minimum of 3mm graphics bleed beyond trim size
• The printable item should have crop and registration marks outside the work area
• The layout should be centred for the end format, trim and bleed boxes must be defined
• All pages within one document must have the same dimensions
• Merge all layers to one background layer

Page 4
Colormanagement
• Files must be supplied with all objects converted to ISO Coated v2 (ECI) CMYK plus any spot colors.
• Maximum Total Ink Coverage must not exceed 340%. (Note: This is exclusive of cutting marks... etc.).
• Converting RGB to CMYK can lead to unpredictable print results.
• Please find all necessary files attached to this PDF.

Special colors
• Remove all special colors from objects where not necessary (i.e. certs, logos etc.)
• Spot colors should adopt a recognizable naming convention, preferably this will be inline
with one of the international Pantone or HKS etc naming conventions.
• Naming like Gold; Green... is not eligible and leads to queries and delay of production
• Each spot color requires a unique color channel. Multiple channels based on the same color are not allowed
and won’t be processed correctly (i.e. “Pantone 804 C” is required, but the PDF file shows elements named as
“Pantone 804 C” and “PMS 804”).

Templates
• The use of our templates is absolutely essential.
• Templates should not be modified in any way.
• With all board products please include a separate page with the grid overlaying the artwork.

Fonts
• Fonts must be embedded.
• If possible do not use multiple master fonts.
• Only use real type designs; therefore do not set in the measurement palettes e.g.”bold”
• Using PC fonts can cause unintended changes of the text layout
Page 8
Images
• Convert all images into CMYK mode to avoid color deviations
• Images should not be less than 300 dpi and no more than 450 dpi effective resolution. (Note: This may vary
from job to job)
• Bitmap images should not be less than 1200 dpi and no more than 2400 dpi effective resolution. (Note: This
may vary from job to job)
• Lossless compression should be used for all images (E.g. ZIP) Lossless compressions that cannot be exactly
retrieved by all systems should not be used (E.g. LZW compression)
• The files must have a minimum of 3mm graphics bleed beyond trim size
• Do not save any transfer or screening curves within the images
• Barcode must be saved in EPS format and converted to paths using 1c black.
Please note that only readability of the barcode will be checked by the prepress department not its content.
• Please check color mode and embedded profiles of all images before exporting the PDF (see also page 5).
Page 9
Transparencies
• Transparencies will be handled natively. No flattening necessary
• Native transparencies are possible from Acrobat® 5 (PDF version 1.4 or higher)
Trapping
• When files are trapped they should be marked as such on the pdf outside the printing area
• Do not use any custom trapping. It can cause ‘thicker‘ copy than intended
Page 10
Overprint
• Set black copy to overprint to avoid registration problems.
• Double check overprint setting with 4c black.
• Overprint white will be transparent
• Set up white as overprinting special color only for special materials (silverfoil, acetat foil…)
• Activate overprint preview in your applications (Acrobat®, InDesign®…) for final check.
• Please contact us with all special overprint settings before you send data (neoncolors, etc.).
Page 11
Page output
• Multi-page jobs should be supplied as a multi-page PDF’s and split into printers pairs or sequential /
continuous pages
• If you supply continuous page booklets make sure to include the pagination outside the printing area
• Perfect bound booklet should be supplied as single pages with 3 mm bleed all around
• Please take into account the effects of page creep, which occurs during production of multi-page booklets.
This term refers to fact that the inner pages are pushed outwards when the booklet is folded, meaning that
the content of images must be indented by 0.15 mm per side in order to avoid these being trimmed.
For example, with a 60 page booklet there will be up to 2,25 mm page creep at the four innermost pages.
Page 12
Hairlines/small characters
• Hairlines must be at least .25 pt to be visible in printing.
• Black lines should be 1c.
• Hairlines and small copy should be as spot color to achieve best edge sharpness

Errors and their effects
Scan resolution too low
Images have a loss of quality (look blurred or pixilated
when printed)
Questionable color mode/spot colors used
in the layout but not specified in the
product specification
Delays in production due to queries/
Spot color elements may be converted to CMYK/Spot
color elements could disappear in the CMYK print
Fonts/images not embedded
File will be blocked in Preflight/PDF does not run
through the RIP > delays in production/Fonts:
automatic font substitution inserts a default font
Images: low resolution preview will be printed
Dimensions deviate from CINRAM template
File will be blocked in Preflight because it cannot be
integrated into the workflow
Missing bleed margin
File will be blocked in Preflight/Risk of white borders
due to mechanical production tolerances
