THE GREEN HEART OF AUSTRIA
Start in Vienna city centre, continue on the A2 Südautobahn motorway and the winding S6 highway with
its spectacular views to Styria – dubbed the “green heart of Austria” on account of its extensive forests –
via the Semmering pass. Wirtshaus Steirereck is situated at the Pogusch pass some 1,100m above sea
level, overlooking the Mürztal valley in the Eastern Alps. This welcoming and iconic mountaintop
restaurant has two Gault Millau toques, and is the perfect place to stop off for lunch. Then take the B20
to Mariazell, in the heart of the breathtaking Limestone Alps, for coffee, followed by the return journey to
Vienna.

Head northwest from Vienna city centre along the banks of the Danube to Lower Austria and the
