BRENTFORD AND CH I SW I CK EXTENDED SERVICES
INTRODUCTION
Welcome to the summer 2010 edition of
What’s On in Brentford and Chiswick.
There continues to be lots of activities in the Cluster
which we want to share with you.
As the Lead Head in the Cluster, I am excited by the
range of experiences on offer to our young people
through Extended Services and have been enormously
pleased to witness young people, being successful
participants in a great many learning activities to
enhance their learning and have fun.
The many partners involved in the Extended
Services Cluster play an important part in improving
the life chances of the young people of Brentford
and Chiswick, helping to ensure their safety and
well-being and enhancing their enjoyment.
Cathy Driscoll
Chair of Extended Services Committee
(Brentford & Chiswick Cluster)
DUKES MEADOWS PLAY AREA NOW OPEN!
The new play area on Dukes Meadows is now fully
open to the public. It is one of the biggest playgrounds in the neighbourhood. It consists of two parts
– the Mounds and Hollows area and the area south
of the path.
The children can enjoy playing using the formal
equipment such as climbing frames and structures,
bridges, a zip wire, a nest swing and a massive slide
which without doubt is the absolute winner. The
play area was designed to meet the needs of both
disabled and able-bodied children. It also has an
accessible roundabout and a super wide slide. Apart
from the play equipment, the space gives children the
opportunity to discover different textures, such as
stones, sand and bark.
The equipment areas have ramps and are wheelchair accessible.

COUNTRYSIDE PARK EVENTS
Hounslow’s parks and green spaces together represent
one of the highest percentages of green areas of all
London boroughs. Our Countryside Rangers are
responsible for the management of the borough’s
parks and have expertise in wildlife conservation,
ecology and countryside interpretation.
They work with local communities and visitors alike to
appreciate, enjoy and care for the natural environment.
The Countryside Rangers have a planned programme
of activities and events; anyone can join in and learn
more about Hounslow’s natural environment,
wildlife and hidden treasures.
Anyone is welcome to come along to our events; here
are some tips before you start out;
•Please wear clothing and footwear suitable for uneven
terrain and the weather conditions on the day.
•Dogs are not permitted on the guided walks due
to the sensitive nature of much of the wildlife
we will be looking for.
•Please feel free to bring binoculars and cameras if
you have them. This may enhance your enjoyment
of our events.
•Presently, there are no refreshment facilities on our
sites, so please bring what you might want with you.
•Children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
Please note there is a small charge for these events.
