TERMS The terms of sale are payment on the day by coin of the realm, cheques by

of Sale). Any animals in the sale premises which are sold by private treaty after the
auction are subject to the full commission on the price realised and all such
transactions must be passed through the auctioneers.

MARKET LOCATION A location map of Chelford is printed at the back of this
catalogue. The market lies adjacent to the A537 Knutsford ² Macclesfield road, and is
best approached from the motorway network via junctions 18 or 19 off the M6.
Alternatively, those travelling from the North may find it more convenient to use the

new M60 Manchester orbital route, and to follow the A34 south through Wilmslow and
Alderley Edge, turning right on the A537 at Monks Heath traffic lights. By rail, travel
from Crewe or Manchester Piccadilly on the local service, which stops at Chelford
Station adjoining the Centre. By air, the Centre is less than 10 miles from Manchester
Airport, from where transport can be arranged upon request.

REFRESHMENTS Hot and cold refreshments will be available on sale day in the market
restaurant, open from 7.30 am.
5.
SALE CONDITIONS The National Conditions of Sale recommended for use in markets

at Chelford, except when otherwise stated, and only insofar as they are not
inconsistent with the conditions of sale printed, or referred to, in this catalogue, or
announced prior to the fall of the hammer.
Intending purchasers should not bid for, or buy, any lot or lots unless they are familiar with all
conditions of sale, and agree to be bound by them.
In the event of any dispute, the auctioneers reserve the right to refer the matter to an
independent arbitrator appointed by the LAA, whose decision shall be final and binding on
all parties.

INSURANCE
Full insurance services are available through Armitage Livestock
Insurance Agency Ltd, for whom the auctioneers act as agents.
Purchasers are strongly advised to ensure that adequate insurance is taken out in
respect of each lot, effective at the fall of the hammer.

OVERNIGHT ACCOMMODATION FOR STOCK is available at Chelford by prior
arrangement with the auctioneers, for stock arriving between 4.00pm and 8.00pm on
Friday 3rd January. All stock needs to be removed by 6.00pm, Saturday 4th January.

NOT FORWARD STOCK The auctioneers, as agents for the Club and Society, have
accepted all catalogued entries in good faith on the instructions of the respective
vendors. There may be occasions, however, when, for various reasons, certain lots are
not forward at sale time, such as, for instance, when substituted or rejected by an
inspector, but under no circumstances do the auctioneers, for the Club or Society, the
vendors or themselves, accept any responsibility for the failure of any lots to come
under the hammer.

All persons attending this sale are reminded of the DEFRA requirements with regard to
biosecurity.

All vendors are reminded that they must hand in completed AML1 forms and current
MV Certificates, which must accompany their sheep to the market. Market Holding
No: 06/339/8001.

All purchasers, and any vendors returning unsold stock, are reminded that, under
biosecurity legislation current at the time of going to press, they must CLEAN and
DISINFECT their vehicle BEFORE LOADING any animals.

Overnight accommodation is available for stock on Friday night, for stock arriving
between 4.00pm and 8.00pm. Vendors wanting to use this service should please
notify our office before 5.00pm, Thursday 1st January. The responsibility for stock
remaining overnight is with the vendor.
TEXEL SALE INSPECTION
Regarding the inspection of Sheep (Teeth and Testicles for Rams; Teeth and Udders for Females)
for WKH1RUWK:HVW7H[HO%UHHGHUV¶&OXEV6DOHVWKHUHZLOOEHDQLQGHSHQGHQWLQVSHFWRUSUHVHQWDWDOO
above sales. The inspector has authority to disqualify any sheep which in his opinion fail to meet the
required standard. The decision of the inspectors shall be final

Sheep which are considered border line can be sold at the discretion of the Auctioneer; with faults
announced at the point of sale.
Upset Price
All pedigree sheep to be sold in guineas. The upset (minimum) price is Shearling Gimmers 250 gns,
Ewes and Ewe Lambs 200 gns at the Chelford sale.

These conditions of show are selected ones only, and are subject to addition, deletion,

Each vendor (exhibitor) is allowed two entries in each show class
Any animals rejected at inspection stage are not allowed to be shown.
All exhibits are to be ready for judging at the time noted in the catalogue, or such other
time as the organisers shall declare, and should be halter-led. Whilst the organisers will
make every effort to announce the commencement of the judging of each class, it is the
responsibility of the exhibitor to ensure that each exhibit is available for judging at the
correct time. In particular, class winners eligible for championship judging should be in
the ring at the appropriate time. Exhibits not forward at judging time will not be judged
All exhibitors should be dressed in a white coat at all times in the show and sale rings
All prize winners must be offered for sale by auction by the exhibitor at the sale following
the show. All awards may be, and all prize monies will be, withheld unless prize winners

The order of sale of the show champions will be announced after the completion of the

This is a major reduction of the Maerdy Flock which was founded on the purchase of some of the top in lamb ewes at
winter sales. The sires used have been rams with size and character. The ewes have not been pushed and come

Beltex Sheep Special Sale Rules
1
All pedigree sheep to be sold in guineas. The upset (minimum) price is 200gns at the
Chelford Sale.

Commission will be deducted at the rate of 5p in the guinea on all pedigree sheep sold.

Any animals in the sale premises which are sold by private treaty after the auction are
subject to the full commission on the price realised and all such transactions must be
passed through the auctioneers.

Scrapie Genotyping is voluntary. Genotype information displayed in the sale catalogue
must be supported by valid genotype certificate. Scrapie genotypes are to be identified
with spray marks on the shoulder as follows: Group 1 Red; Group 2 Blue; Group 3 Yellow.
Vendors are responsible for ensuring the correct marks are applied to each sheep.

Sheep will only be accepted into the market and penned for sale if they are
accompanied by a SAC Certificate of Official MV Status which has been correctly
completed. This Certificate must be handed in when the animal/s arrive at the market.
Please note ² A DEFRA representative will be on duty to inspect all Maedi Visna Certificates.

No sheep to be presented while suffering from any contagious disease.

All sheep must be tagged to comply with DEFRA and Beltex Sheep Society Rules. The
vendor shall be responsible for the correctness of identity. Any tags which are tampered
with, hand written, bear marks, are faulty or illegible will be rejected form the sale. Buyers
shall have one hour following the end of the sale to lodge any faults or misrepresentation
to the auctioneers.

The purchaser must satisfy himself as to the soundness and correctness of his purchase
one hour of the conclusion of the sale.

Substitute entries will be accepted at this sale, but all information must be with the
auctioneers 24 hours prior to the sale day. All substitutes to be marked with a red dot on
the rump.

Any rams with semen retained before sale or females which have been flushed and
embryos recovered before sale must be declared in the catalogue and announced at the
time of sale. Failure to do so will result in the purchaser having the right to return the
sheep. Costs may be incurred.
Inspections
1. Tags which do not comply with UK legislation and Society requirements will result in the sheep being
rejected at inspection. From 2008 all registered lambs must carry tags with the Society logo. Check that tags are
correct at time of entry, so that replacement tags can be ordered before the sale.
2. Inspection ± All sheep forward must be back-stamped with the lot number, failure to do so will result
in rejection.

5. Inspection will include the following points:- Teeth and Testicles, Mobility Udder, Muscularity and any
other points deemed necessary by Council as they see fit.
Inspection Standards
TEETH ±To be scored on a 1-5 scale, where 1 is extremely undershot and 5 is extremely overshot, with 3 being
perfect. A score of 2 ½, 3 , and 3 ½ is all that is acceptable.
MOBILITY ± Sheep should be mobile and sound. Rams should be capable of natural service.
TESTICLES - Should be of even size, move freely and be free of abnormalities.
DOUBLE MUSCLING ± Sheep should display double-muscled gigots.
UDDER - Should be correct and free of abnormalities.
FLEECE ± Should be tight. A medium fleece may be acceptable.
Appeals
Appeals against an inspection decision may be made to the Chief Inspector or Society Secretary. A deposit of
£50 (refundable if appeal is successful) must be lodged and the sheep will then be inspected by an appeals team
of three people elected prior to the sale by Council. The decision of the appeals committee is final. Appeal to
be lodged within 1 hour of the inspection decision.
Shows at Sales

BELTEX
THE STANDARD OF EXCELLENCE
General Appearance
The Beltex is a medium sized sheep, long in body. It is wedge shaped from a narrow shoulder to a distinctive
large double-muscled hind quarter.
Head
The head is generally white in colour but may have black, blue or brown shadings or patches. Colour is
irrelevant to quality. The fore face is short and thick.
Neck
The neck is thick and short.
Body
Well muscled shoulder. A wide back and long barrel shaped body
Gigots
The distinctive characteristic of Beltex Sheep is the double-muscled hindquarters, sloping pelvis, low set tail,
deep flushed, well rounded and full of meat. The excessive hindquarter development when compared to the
line of the shoulders gives a wedge shaped appearance.
Legs
Sheep should be mobile and capable of natural service. Joints should be straight and sound. Legs are usually
white but colour is relevant. Feet tight. Pasterns upright. Fine bone structure.
Fleece
Tight, dense of medium staple length, affording a good protective birth coat to the lamb. A medium to tight
fleece is tolerated.
Bone
Fine bone is a desirable characteristic.
Teeth
Teeth are scored on a 1 to 5 scale, where 1 is extreme and 5 extreme overshot, with 3 being perfect. Only
animals with a score of 2, 3 or 4 are considered acceptable.

Fertility Guarantee ² Beltex Sheep

IT IS HEREBY AGREED THAT
(i)
Incapacity due to injury from whatever cause, illness suffered or contracted after the date of sale is
not covered by the Guarantee.
(ii)
Death within the respective Guarantee Period voids any liability under this Guarantee unless such
infertility has been proven.
(iii)
In cases where the seller insures his liability under the Fertility Guarantee, the insurer shall assume the
rights and remedies of the seller under the Guarantee and Procedure Rules.

CHELFORD AGRICULTURAL CENTRE
Chelford Agricultural Centre lies adjacent to the A537 Knutsford - Macclesfield road,
and is best approached from the motorway network via junctions 18 or 19 off the M6.
Alternatively those travelling from the North may find it more convenient to use the
new M60 Manchester orbital route, and to follow the A34 south through Wilmslow and
Alderley Edge, turning right on the A537 at Monks Heath traffic lights.
By rail, travel from Crewe or Manchester Piccadilly on the local service, which stops at
Chelford Station adjoining the Centre.
