Congratulations to Jameriyon May, DeAalijah Moore, and Byron Bordelon for
answering this week’s question of the week. They will be receiving a free crazy
bread from Little Ceasers! The answer to last week’s question “What color are
Dandelions?” is: Dandelions are yellow.

In transitioning between the PARCC state assessment in the spring of
2015 to the MAP state assessment in the spring of this past year, CES
made notable growth in several areas. We are SO PROUD of the growth
that our CENTRAL SAILORS are making in academic achievement! Check
out the following:
Growth in percentage of students ranked as “proficient” and
“advanced”:
Grade Level / Subject Area
PARCC—Spring 2015
MAP—Spring 2016
4th—Reading/L.A.
14.58%
28.30%
5th—Reading/L.A.
20.59%
25.64%
4th—Math
20.83%
30.19%
In the Gulfport School District as a whole, the results are amazing...out
of 17 school districts in South Mississippi, our elementary students in
grades 3, 4, and 5 scored THIRD (3rd) on the coast in math, with NO
grade levels scoring below the Mississippi state average! Even more impressive is Gulfport’s ranking for the recently-released 2014-2015 accountability results...out of 17 districts, GSD tied with Ocean Springs for
FIRST (1st) PLACE out of the 17 southern school districts in the state.
With that said, Gulfport continues to prove every day and in every way
that we are, truly...
