The United Ice synchronized program provides skaters the
The United Ice synchronized program provides skaters the
opportunity to share their love of skating in a competitive team
sport. We strive to provide a positive environment for skaters to
develop their skating skills and realize their potential as
performers. Our goal is to provide a program that allows the
skater to learn life skills including perseverance, dedication,
teamwork, and sportsmanship, while enjoying competition. The
United Ice Synchronized Skating Program fosters the value of
hard work and commitment for skaters while the skater is having
fun and skating at the highest competitive level.
As coaches of the Synchronized Figure Skating program it
is our interest to share the knowledge we have learned both
on and off the ice during our skating careers. We vision
the future of the program to be made up of multiple teams
at multiple levels in hopes of taking our teams to the
National Championships. We would like to create an
opportunity for the rinks in the surrounding area to join
our program and create a great program for OBM Arena
Iceland USA and Serpentini Arena Iceland USA and the
Strongsville Skating Club.
Alissa Mariage will be coaching the team for the
2015-2016 seasons while Kim Gordon is recovering
from surgery. Please read below to learn more
about Alissa’s impressive background in the skating
world. Please welcome Alissa to the team the next
time you see her.
I was born in Colorado, where I began group lessons at age 3. We moved to Bay Village,
OH, where I started skating competitively, both individually and in Synchronized Skating
at the age of 5. I have Gold Moves in the Field and Gold Freestyle tests and competed
up to Senior Free Skate before graduating high school. I skated for 11 years with the
Cleveland Edges before attending Miami University of Ohio in 2004. At Miami, I skated
four years on the Collegiate Varsity Synchronized Skating team, where I was on
leadership council and won four consecutive national titles with the team. Since my first
year at Miami, the collegiate team has won 11 consecutive National titles, holding the US
record!
After graduating in May 2008 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Sport
Studies with a minor in coaching, I moved back to Cleveland and have been coaching
private lessons and synchronized skating for the last seven seasons. I also work in the
family business, helping to manage two restaurants on the West side suburbs of
Cleveland.
I have three sisters who all skate as well. My oldest sister, Lindsay, won a Collegiate
national title for Western Michigan University in 2003 and currently skates for Denver
Synchronicity. My younger sister, Jaime, also skated for Miami University from 20082012. She was a member of the Junior Varsity team for her first two years, and won two
national titles for the Collegiate team her junior and senior year. My youngest sister,
Brittan, has won two national titles for the Miami Collegiate team has earned a spot on
the Senior Team this year.
I'm looking forward to the opportunity of working with the United Ice Pre-Juvenile team
this year and expect we'll have a fun season!
