All rights reserved. No duplication without permission. Talane’s Checklist for Success 1) Toss the dead goals. A dead goal is any goal over one year old that you have made no significant progress on. Don't waste time trying to resuscitate a dead goal. Pick a new goal that truly excites you instead. E.g. Lose weight and get in shape is a dead goal for most people. 2) Focus. Only pick one or two big goals for the year. A big goal takes six months to one year to accomplish. You can also have three projects going at any one time. One of your three projects should always be supporting your big goal. The other two can be whatever you want, but don't tackle a fourth project until you complete one of the three. E.g. If a goal is aligned to one of your core values, even if you never reach the end result, you will still have fun and enjoy the process. 4) Give your big goal the best hour of the day. Do this BEFORE you open your email or check your messages! Get into the office an hour earlier and work on this project or goal or come in an hour later and do it at home. 5) Set up a rock solid structure for support. Petty Annoyances from Coach Yourself to Success.) 7) Install boundaries to protect your time. If you need to write first thing in the morning, make sure your friends don’t call. 8) Get the right tools and people for the job. 9) Delegate like crazy, especially the parts you don’t like. 10) Create the time and the space. Just say, “No, thanks!” Align your Goals to Your Values • Your Core Values are simply what is most important to you. If you were to imagine you had all the money you needed and all the time, and you could do whatever you most desired, whatever most excited you and inspired you, that would be one of your core values. • Typical values: travel, adventure, play, fun, invent, create, design, lead, inspire, peace, manage, discover, explore, beauty... • Exercise: What are the highlights of your life? Design Your Ideal Life • Start with One Ideal Day or even an ideal morning or evening routine. Describe it in as much detail as possible. • Make a collage, a sketch, a scrapbook, a list, a painting of your ideal life. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It helps to play the Instant Billionaire Game first. • Make your Big Goal one of the elements in your Ideal Life (double check to make sure it is in alignment with one of your core values). • Pick a Theme for the Year. (A new filing system, direct debit, hire a housekeeper.) 2) Invest 10% of your income on personal growth, development and training. Keep your skills up. Get a coach to challenge you. 3) Get rid of something that no longer applies to you. (A bad habit, a relationship, a job, that nagging sore tooth.) 4) Improve your diet by eliminating something you know isn’t good for you. 5) Add nutrition.
