The Wire - City Electric Supply
2
The 25th of September marked the halfway point of our
2015/2016 trading year and I am excited to say we started
the year strong and will come into the second half with great
momentum. October saw the opening of our 400th branch,
which keeps us on path to achieve our goal of 20+ new
branches during this trading year. You will see several of these
new branches highlighted in this edition of The Wire.
This growth would not be possible without the work of
our tremendous teams across the CES network, and this
edition of The Wire highlights several of these people and their
successes. You will see our marketing and web teams were honored
with awards at tED Magazine’s “Best of the Best” Awards in
Chicago this summer; we have come so far in these areas
over recent years! You will see insights into some of the great
things happening in both the business and personal lives of
our team members across the country. You will also see a
strong emphasis on training. This is an area of business we
have been investing in heavily over recent years and thanks
to your feedback, we know we must continue to develop and
strengthen our training platform.
I hope you enjoy this edition of The Wire and thank you to all for
making this another successful start to the year.

Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center
The Charleston Projects Department recently completed a project for
the Ralph H. Johnson VA Medical Center. Our customer, Construct
South, partnered with Eaton to install a 3000-amp switchboard,
which runs the chillers that provide air conditioning for the entire
hospital. This took over $350K worth of Eaton product, pipe, wire,
and fittings.

Welcome
to
the Family
CES Summerfield, FL
We would like to welcome the Summerfield, FL location
to the CES family of branches. We opened December
26, 2014 and had a great opening month of sales. The
contractors in the area as well as the general public have
been extremely responsive and many have voiced their
pleasure that there is now a CES store in their back yard. A
lot of time and effort was put into the layout and inventory
of the branch to ensure that we could serve the area as
effectively and efficiently as possible. Sales have started off
strong and we look forward to improving on them as well as
serving our customers for many years to come.

2014
Marketeer
of the year
The team at the CES Westinghouse
in Charlotte, N.C. worked hard with
their Legrand representatives, John
Waite and Hill Jones, in their efforts
to enhance the Legrand presence
at the branch and boost sales for
Legrand merchandise. These efforts,
led by Kevin Feidler, Branch Manager,
paid off resulting in a whopping 67.5
percent increase in annual sales. The
branch’s Legrand sales increased
from $224,495 in 2013 to $375,944
in 2014. Due to these exceptional
results, the Westinghouse Branch was
honored with the 2014 Marketeer of
the Year award from Legrand.
CES Salisbury
Achieving this feat was no easy
task. To help amplify Legrand sales,
the branch set up eye-catching
custom merchandise displays for all
Legrand EWS brands. In addition,
Feidler, and Joel Godsoe, Store
Manager, and Philip McKinney, a
dedicated MDU associate, spent
countless hours repackaging the
Pass and Seymour rough and trim
kits for target MDU installers in
order to save time for their clients,
leading to an increased customer
retention rate. The Westinghouse
Branch is proof that hard work and
determination pay off, and City
Electric Supply is lucky to have a
team with such talented individuals.
Please join us in congratulating the
entire Westinghouse team for their well
deserved award as
2014 Marketeer of the Year!

Training
CES & Lutron
City Electric Supply’s Charlotte Group collaborated with Lutron and
Carolina Control Group to present Lutron’s Residential Advantage
Contractor (RAC) Program to some of their branches’ key customers.
Over 20 contractors attended the Lutron training event, which
was held at the Olde Mecklenburg Brewery in Charlotte, N.C. The
presentation mainly focused on Lutron’s Caséta Wireless product
line, which allows homeowners to monitor and adjust their lights,
thermostat, and battery operated shades from any location. With
Caséta Wireless, homeowners can control as many as 50 products
with just the touch of a button through the use of the Lutron app on
their smart phone, tablet, or Apple Watch. Other home automation
products were discussed as well, such as the Pico switches and
remote controls.
To engage CES’s contractor base and drive sales of the new
connected home products, Lutron is offering unique incentives as
part of their Residential Advantage Contractor Program. During
the training event, Lutron held a raffle where a free Apple Watch
was given to one lucky contractor, John Harris, who is a customer
of the Westinghouse branch. In addition, Lutron is offering two
more incentives to promote sales within the Charlotte Group. The
contractors who attended the training session were entered into a
sales contest, where the contractor with the most Caséta Wireless
purchases will win a free Apple Watch from Lutron! The branches
are also participating in a sales contest, in which Lutron will award an
Apple Watch to the top sales person within the Charlotte Group.
Home automation products represent a new and rapidly increasing
market that electrical contractors can utilize to increase profitability
and revenue. Lutron’s RAC program helps our local contractors dive
into this new and booming connected home market by providing
the training needed to push home automation to the customer.
Lutron designed their RAC program to encourage contractors to take
advantage of the connected home market and ultimately increase
sales of Lutron’s new home automation products, which are available
in CES branches nationwide.

Denver Central operates out of a building that is over
50 years old and has had very little updating since
it was built. In April, Dave Cravens and the property
division organized an incredible renovation of our
building that not only made the counter and offices
far nicer than we could have ever imagined, but
were able to include some structural preventative
measures that will prove to be a benefit moving
forward.
Denver Central now has a break room with a
kitchenette where in the past we made do with a
refrigerator in the warehouse. The addition of double
swinging doors between the warehouse and counter
coupled with the new Stanley automatic doors to the
exterior have improved our efficiency and are a hit
with customers.
We are increasing sales at the counter because of
our well planned displays. Not only does the product
basically sell itself, we are now selling items that were
quickly becoming dead stock prior to the updates.
We are proving that a fresh trade counter sells
product.
Denver Central has incorporated a technology
showroom that will soon be complete with many
new and exciting products including new products
from Lutron. This technology room will allow us to
give live demos and host training sessions for our
customers and other branches on property. Overall
this renovation will provide benefits for our customers,
employees and vendors for years to come.

INVESTING IN OURSELVES
The Raleigh Region
invested in the creation
of a new Projects
Department and the
addition of a lighting
specialist and a
data-com/low voltage
specialist. These
investments resulted in a
high number of lighting
orders and opportunities
in the CCTV and lowvoltage arena.

Party in the Park
“Being a [Chamber] member, we’ve opened a lot
of new accounts. It’s helped grow our business;
we’ve been able to attend various functions and
built new partnerships. Joining the Chamber
has helped us a lot,” CES Chesterton Branch
Manager Ed Ustanik commented.
Ed does a great job for CES and happened to
celebrate his 50th birthday on the day of the
event! Pop in and wish him a great year!
