We are honoring five Bay Area Sports Legends:
Tony La Russa
(Oakland A’s) Bob Ladouceur (De La Salle Football Coach) Jim Hines Bob Lurie (Olympic Track Athlete) (San Francisco Giants) Owen Nolan (San Jose Sharks) Tony La Russa, is one of the best managers in MLB history. La Russa was the manager of the Oakland Athletics from 1986 1995. He won 3 World Series Championships (one with the A’s and two with the Cardinals), 3 AL Manager of the year awards and one NL Manager of the year award. He is one of only two managers to ever win a World Series Title in both the NL and the AL. He ranks 3rd in MLB history with 2,728 victories. Bob Ladouceur, is the former coach of De La Salle High School in Concord, CA. From 1992 to 2004, he guided the team to 12
consecutive undefeated seasons, setting a national winning streak record for high school football of 151 wins. He was enshrined in the National High School Football Hall of Fame in 2001. He led the De La Salle Spartans to 28 CIF North Coast Section Championships, 17 California State Championships and 7 National Championships. Ladouceur is the all-­‐time winningest coach in California high school football. He retired on January 4th, 2013 with a career record of 399-­‐25-­‐3. Jim Hines, was born in Dumas, Arkansas and raised in Oakland, California and graduated from McClymonds High School in
1964. At the 1968 US National Championship in Sacramento, Hines became the first person to break the 10-­‐second barrier in the 100 metes with a time of 9.9. At the 1968 Olympics he set a new record of 9.95. His record stood for 15 years until 1983. He had a short pro football career with the Miami Dolphins and the Kansas City Chiefs. Bob Lurie, is the former owner of the San Francisco Giants. He purchased the Giants in 1976 and prevented them from
moving to Toronto. He was the owner when the Giants won the NL Pennant and faced the A’s in the 1989 World Series. He sold the team to Bay Area investors in 1993. Lurie is a Bay Area Philanthropist supporting numerous non-­‐profits most significantly the San Francisco Zoo. Owen Nolan, was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland and was the first overall pick in the 1990 NHL draft. He played of 8 of 20
NHL seasons for the San Jose Sharks and was the Sharks captain from 1998-­‐2003. Nolan is a 5 time NHL All-­‐Star, Olympic Gold Medal winner for team Canada in 2002 and won a Gold Medal in the 1997 World Championships. He ranks third in all time goals and assists for the San Jose Sharks The 35th annual BASHOF enshrinement banquet is gong to be an unforgettable evening with many Bay Area sports celebrities in attendance.
