City Walls is a Vancouver-based modern rock band
City Walls is a Vancouver-based modern rock band comprised of Paul Lambert, Nate Parsons, Tony Lambert, and Brian Welsch. Their dynamic alternative sound incorporates everything from hard rock riffs and acoustic folk arrangements, to pop vocal harmonies and dirty blues guitar solos. Formerly performing under the name Louder Than Love, the band became known for stellar live shows, earning themselves opening slots with some of rock’s biggest acts, including The Sheepdogs, Young The Giant, Theory of a Deadman, The Trews, State of Shock and others. The band’s debut album Dark Days garnered industry praise and strong commercial radio airplay, peaking at #4 on the Canadian College !earshot radio charts. Second effort, 2010 EP Coming Around, was again met with positive reviews, and following the release the band embarked on a successful Canadian tour, playing packed rooms from coast to coast. They closed the tour to a sold out crowd at the Commodore Ballroom, where they were declared Platinum Award winners in the prestigious 99.3 The Fox Seeds Competition, joining the ranks of past winners Nickelback, Bif Naked, and Matthew Good. 2011 was capped off by winning the title of Best Vancouver Band in the Westender’s annual Best of the City issue, beating out runners up Mother Mother and Black Mountain. For their latest LP Engines, Lambert continued to take the lead on songwriting, with support on several songs from Parsons, developing the live sound with help from Lambert’s brother Tony and new drummer Welsch. Partnering with award-winning Canadian producers Arnold Lanni (Our Lady Peace, Finger Eleven) and Howard Redekopp (Mother Mother, The New Pornographers) helped the band develop a heightened lyrical depth and a more robust, impactful sound for this latest collection of tracks. The resulting eleven songs demonstrate the bands strong grasp on a range of melodic directions, revolving around themes of escape, identity, and the passing of time. With a new sound, new energy, and a new name, City Walls will drop their first new single, in February 2014, followed by the full album release in April.
