WHEATLAND UNION HIGH SCHOOL Summer 2015 VOLUME 2, ISSUE 8 Pirate Chronicle - In Loving Memory of Monroy Rios - Pirate Chronicle Staff The Most Relevant man in the World Publisher: By: Bailey Frank Mr. Olsen Editor: Courtney Bettcher Reporter: Bailey Frank Reporter: Alexis Stinson Reporter: Christain Diaz Reporter: Morgan Stieger Reporter: Kiley Gray Reporter: Ramneek Sanghera Reporter: Lauren Wroblewski Reporter: Cyrill Somera Reporter: Amber Wolff Monroy Rios as you all know passed away recently. His loss has been hard on most of us, but at the same time it is hard to stay sad when Monroy was such a happy person. Monroy was one of a kind, who had the gift of spreading joy and smiles across everyone's face. Even complete strangers to Monroy couldn’t help but like him. Trenton Osman and TJ Crippen, close friends to Monroy, told me a story about a cruise they had just gone on over spring break. On this cruise there was a fancy dinner where everyone dressed up really nice and was in a very formal setting with music playing so people could dance. In the beginning of a dance you usually find everyone awkwardly swaying back and forth, but not Monroy. Monroy had a different approach to this dance and life, he went out on that floor and busted a move. He was a trail blazer, he did his own thing and didn't care about a single person's opinion. More people started to move on to the dance floor and actually have a good time. A couple had told Trenton that the party hadn't started until Monroy walked in. That couple was right, Monroy was always the life of the party where ever he went, usually in a sexy striped shirt and bright green hoody which represented his personality and his sass. Anyone who knew Monroy knew about his sass, with those quick blindsiding comebacks and that look of disgust as he rolled his shoulders and with a flick of a wrist you were burned. Most of the time it was just for laughs though. Honestly, Monroy was a genuine human being which every teacher and peer would agree. Monroy's friends and family are still feeling the loss of such an important person in their lives, but rather than mourning his death they want to celebrate his life; and there is a lot to celebrate. I was told by some of his closest friends that Monroy was the glue of their little family that had developed and grown since before high school, but their little family is holding together just fine, even after the loss of their dearest friend because Monroy is still their in their hearts. Tuesday April, 21 was the Chalk The Quad Memorial, where friends and loved ones expressed their memories and love for Monroy. Most of the quad right now is an image of a giant tree. The tree represents a lot of deep thoughts but is also one of the parts he played in our spring play. In this skit he played a boisterous tree who kept interfering with the, classic story, Little Red Riding Hood, or Little Red Riding Hood and the Beautiful Tree. I was unable to get the back story of every chalked image in the quad but if you are wondering why there is a Choco Boy picture, it is his favorite candy and he once took every box off a store shelf, yes every single box, and bought them all for $50. He kept them in his closet for a while until they were finally finished off by him and his friends. You may not get the queso picture as well, but Christian Mosongolies, one of Monroy's best friends, had got a zebra piñata named queso filled with string queso, or cheese for all of you gringos. Monroy then wore the head with his famous striped shirt and was a sexy zebra. Many more inside jokes and pictures are written on our quad in honor of Monroy. He will forever remembered as well as missed.
